This is a complicated and emotional issue..one that got me in hot water last year..... Many people think that Beck has tools and was thrown to the wolves and that is why he did not succeed...Personally I have been consistent and remain of the opinion he does not have enough tools to be successful at a high level.....I get the fact that other disagree. Then we add the differing opinions of whether John Beck will improve...then you throw in questions of value of return in trade...toss in a little Pennington gets injured a lot (then Beck is a 2, not a 3)...add a little Pennington is 33 or so to the mix, and to finish it off, lets not forget the developmental cycle of a QB...and there are more issues.....that is quite a decision tree (and each opinion is relevant to the next question) when evaluating your personal feeling on what to do in the John Beck situation...it is no wonder we have a lot of opinions and hopefully most as I have will learn to be less emotional and respect the opinion values of others with regard to John Beck..... Personally I see a older #3 developmental QB with some game experience, no success and a strange personal approach to the game......a smaller frame than stereotypical for this organizational structure, limited tools.....IMHO..... So...if it were up to me and you could add ANY draft choice above a mid 6...i would do it.....sign/draft a QB with less years, less psyhce damage, better mechanics, and in general better tools.......maybe you hit on a devlopmental guy like Ratliff was last year with the Jets.....JMHO and my 2 cents
Couldn't agree more. I think all of us are a little too emotionally involved in one way or another in John Beck. I can't put my finger on why this is. Right now he's mostly insignificant in the grand scheme of things being a 3rd string QB but here we are going on 10 pages now talking about this guy. I think it has something to do with the role John Beck played during this franchise's darkest period. He was the guy we drafted instead of the guy (who some think) we should have drafted, and the guy who was supposed to give us some shining hope in that disastorous 1-15 season. It didn't pan out, and some of us still hope he can turn into that guy we thought he could be while others maybe are a little more disappointed that he hasn't been that guy and are ready to cut ties and move on. Either way the opinions on both sides of the argument have on this 3rd string QB are probably stronger and more emotionally based than they should be. I keep vowing to stop talking about John Beck, but the debate is just so damned fascinating!
In pure logic the third string QB should be someone who can play for the practice squad, be either a savy vet or a longshot development QB. Someone who is smart and can help prepare. Beck fits those
