Not a good opening statement for John Beck this year. Yeah hes a rookie on a crappy team but in his few starts hes got the Major Fumbles dont he... Understatement...
Beck's height as measured at the combine was 6021, which translates as 6 feet, 2 and one eighth inches.
Some of you posters are so blind in your dislike for Beck. You've already decided he's going to be a bust and that Parcells isn't going to want him. The guy has a grand total of 4 starts, period. But some of you can already make an informed determination. Too funny. FYI, Beck completed 61.9 % today. NO Ints; 1 TD pass; 1 TD run for a QB rating of 96.3. Oh and he's the same size as Phil Simms when Simms played for Parcells on a NYG super bowl winner. It seems to me that for some, it really isn't going to matter how well Beck may do because he's not the guy YOU think we should have.
This is a good discussion about one of the most serious issues the Dolphins have faced since Dan Marino retired. There are lots of different concerns about the state of the Dolphins and their many needs. Now that the season is officially over and all we have to look forward to is the next draft and what Bill Parcells is able to do to right the ship. I like John Beck and he certainly has abilities, he has just struggled adjusting to the Pros. Sure he has made mistakes, but most rookies do. Some improve and find their game and some don't. Brees is a perfect example. For two years he played poorly and made mistakes but he found his game and has become one of the best QBs in the league. Why does the question keep coming up about him being too small? Some of the best QBs playing are his height such as Brett Favre is 6'2", Drew Brees is only 6 foot, Donovan McNabb is 6'2", Kurt Warner is 6'2", the QB everybody is talking about in Jacksonville David Garrard is 6'2". So is Beck too short? On the other hand how often does an NFL team have the first pick in the NFL Draft and the chance to draft the best and the most wanted player available? Whomever the Dolphins pick at number one could be a indicator for the future of the Dolphins and their return to respectability. You better bet that Bill Parcells knows what this pick means for the Dolphins and his effort to turn things around.
Tony Romo | #9 | QB Dallas Cowboys | Official Team Site Height: 6-2 Weight: 224 John Beck | #9 | QB Miami Dolphins | Official Team Site Height: 6-2 Weight: 216 Im sure that eight pounds is a huge factor to parcells and remeber romo was 26 last year so
HAHA. I was doing the same research as you at the same time! Growing up in NY I saw alot of Simms as a kid and that is who Beck reminded me of when I finally saw him out there (not saying he is in Simms league). I think they rounded up on Simms. Check out his rookie measurements...nearly identical to Simms' http://cgi.ebay.com/1980-Topps-FB-2...0490832QQihZ008QQcategoryZ56000QQcmdZViewItem
I guess these whippersnappers don't remember a 5'11" qb that was pretty decent in the mid to late 70's for the LA Rams. Not a strong arm but played pretty much mistake free football. He came in as a rookie for them in the 5th game after Jaworski and James Harris were injured. Not the best arm, but a good qb-Pat Haden. So why all the squawk about height?
the guy is a baller give him a chance with a solid running attack not down 14 pts and he migh have as shot u dont give up on him after four starts
im with you man im excited ecspecially wen u think about satele too this guy after adding more stregnth in the offseason could develp into on of the better centers in the league. Booker looks like a great change of pace back to team up with ronnie. ginn will at the very worst be a good #2 WR and has the potential to develop into a good #1 WR and Beck showed flashes today so. If soliai shows he just needed the yr too get stronger along wit mormino we could have a good number of young players for the future. dont forget mormino was beating out everyone for the LG spot at the begining of the season. Porter had a strong second half of the season and jason allen has been our best player in the secondary so.
Are you serious? I'm not a drinker of the Beck Koolaid, we were terrible this year, Tuna respects value, and needs a QB with a strong chin to take the punches as we watch yet another Oline "jell" in Miami, if Beck knocks off the fumble BS, he can play a bit for us. Don't write off John Beck, he has Character, but don't bet the franchise on him either.
After the first two series Beck looked good. Two touch downs and threw the ball away on the 4th drive (no int). He adjusted to the defense and OL and took what the defense gave. I think that at least keeps Beck in the picture.
I don't get this argument. Being older doesn't mean he should be any more ready for the NFL. He still has the same experience of any other rookie. He is going to have the same learning curve that every other rookie QB in the league has.
Parcells despises QBs who turn the ball over. Its why Romo sat and sat and why he preferss vets. Its why Cam didnt want to start Beck. Good to hear Beck settled down. I didnt see the game. I wonder what Parcells will focus on ----- the turnovers or the TDs
6'2" is becoming too short. next decade 6'4" will be the minimum size for QBs. Every decade players have to get bigger
L Booker didnt start because he couldnt digest the playbook. Cameron started him when he wouldnt be a liability
Dude the game has changed so much since then its ridiculous to bring up what happened a generation back.
Sorry I do not by that, John had weeks of practice and did the exact same thing. Getting 2 Touchdowns in GARBAGE Time against a horrible defense does not make up for the mistakes. John has fumble hands and yes its some due to inexperience but, I do think Bill was not happy with him messing up on his first opportunity to shine...
EXACTLY Bill hates rookie Qb's look at his history. I expect a 3/4 starter to be brought in via draft trade or FA..
Simms, Bledsoe and Testeverde are his types. Pennington wasnt because of his weak arm, Romo wasnt because he's too unpredictable but he got hot when he was put in and Parcells will always go with the hot hand. He's willing to go outside his own beliefs. Bottom line with Parcells he may have his beliefs but he'll go with whatever works the best
Considering Parcells hates to give up picks and there aren't any good FA's that would seem tough. Unless you think Rex Grossman is an upgrade.
Correct. Those are the two most impiortant aspects Parcells will look for. Not just QB but every position. If Beck can prove he's a tough SOB he has a chance with parcells. If he comes across as a wimp Parcells will not give him a fair shot and he'll bring in someone who is a tough SOB
GOD NO PLEASE, NOT REX or SOME JET QB.. I have a feeling Anderson or some other older veteran will be brought in for a few seasons. Unless Bill does some kind of magic. Check out this Video Bill does not look happy.. http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter?season=2007&week=REG17&game_id=29443
If there's one thing Beck has proven in his short time here, it is the guy is tough. From going all out to score a TD while taking a big shot in pre-season to staying in the pocket with a ton of pressure and poor protection in the regular season he has shown nice toughness. There was one play today where he stayed in the pocket and took a huge shot after delivering a nice pass downfield. Also playing on two injured ankles his entire senior year at BYU was pretty impressive.
Derek Anderson? Not unless the Dolphins are willing to give up a 1st and a 3rd, which is the tender he will almost definitely get.
