Joey Porter says he has 'no excuse' for not getting 10+ sacks

Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter doesn't have a game this week to fire up the opposition with bulletin-board material, but that didn't stop him from making a more personal prediction.

"I don't have no excuse if I don't put up 10 or better sacks this year," Porter said after practice Wednesday. "I said I would and if I don't do that then you could write he didn't perform to the level he thought he could play. I told you I'd be a night-and-day player from last year to this year."

Well heck, he's almost halfway there already. I'm sure he could pad his stats a little when we play KC and St. Louis.

I like Porter. He just came off a 1-15 season and he still thinks they should win every game and they should perform at a high level. He didn't let losing change his attitude.

I love to see Joey Porter setting high expectations for himself. I think every player should.

I hope he can do a little better then ten sacks this year, he already has 4, and we have thirteen games to go, 6 sacks over 13 games is not that impressive.

He should end up in the mid teens especially with some of the clunker games we will have this year..

I hope he gets about 15 sacks which is possible. He played a great game v.s. New Endgland and hopefully he continues the great play

Porter having a great game on top of a blowout was salt in the wound for NE fans. Not a single player for Miami received anywhere near the Boo's JP did.

Funny thing is a player like Joey might actually get fired up and feed off of those boos.

I love it. Never been more proud to wear my bright orange JP jersey. I hope his badass attitude spreads through our whole defense. I would say the whole team, but Ronnie runs that offense.

Jason who?

Not much was made of it, but the Pats actually ran through the Dolphins stretching lines during pregame. A no-no that the NFL outlawed mainly due to Porter's antics a few years back. He and others said that disrespect fired them up.

Sadly, I do not posess Neo like skills to take on a ton of fans like Keanu did with the Smith's in the Matrix. That is to say I was seriously outnumbered and out gunned.

However, I did get threatened a few times. I made the mistake of stepping in front of a couple tough guys right before the Phins scored at the end of the first half. I told them to relax and Id move as soon as Ronnie scored. After he punched it in I patted the one guy on the back and said "Good Luck in the second half"

He mumbled somthing about my Mom and a farm animal...

Having a guy like Porter can be very helpful if he backs up his mouth and his antic will catch on like fire. He is a very outspoken person & i think this is one of the reason why the previous regime signed them.

nice! now he's talkin trash to himself too. a 10 sack season out of joey would be great! he really needs to show up week in, and week out in order for this D to continue to be effective, and to give us a better chance to win games.

Is it lofty expectations? He's done it twice in his 9 year career (not including this year)

goes to show how spoiled we've been by JTs 12-13+ sacks every year.

Lets hope he does and lets hope langford and merling arent too far behind

i think langford is going to be awesome. i haven't looked at the stats for last game but langford had sacks in his first two games even though one didn't really show because of a facemask penalty.

Yeah, he really impresses me. Very good motor and instincts to go with power. He'll be a really good one in a few years, once he develops.

how many guys at the end of the year wind up with 10 sacks.. i justb dont see that as overly impressive, 15 now thats impressive, but i guess because he plays linebacker its all relative..

I just want him to play consistent, consistently great.

I'd rather any LB play consistently well in all areas he's responsible for rather than put up huge sacks at the end of the year and that be his only strong point.

About 15 each year. Considering there are at least 4 guys each team gunning for the QB on each team, 15 is pretty impressive. And he did say 1+, so maybe 12 or so.

You are of course entitled to your own opinion, but 10+ sacks is damn impressive.
