After a disconcerting first year in Miami, the linebacker - 11.17.08 - SI Vault AT THIS time a year ago Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter would be fuming after games. He would shower, change and head to his car as quickly as possible, angry not only at another loss but also at another game in which he'd had no impact. When Porter signed a five-year free-agent contract worth a potential $30 million in March 2007, he expected that Miami would use him as a right outside 'backer in the same 3--4 scheme in which he had starred during eight seasons with the Steelers. But when Porter arrived in South Florida and picked up the defensive playbook, he realized the Dolphins were preparing to play a 4--3 base; and with Jason Taylor established as the pass-rush threat on the right, Porter would be setting up primarily on the left side for the first time in his career.
Great article and another indicator this team has changed and improved. Porter's play should get him consideration for the ProBowl and defensive player of the year if he continues on this pace, especially if he gets the sack record.
Nice find Mary. I for one am on the record for eating Crow in regards to Joey Porter. I have ranted on several occasions how he was a waste of cap and how his play didnt match his mouth. Well, he is not talking quite as much, but his play has been nothing short of spectacular. I think he garners many titles by seasons end, including DPOY and perhaps Come back player of the year.
Honestly, who'd have thought 3 years ago that Chad Pennington would be leading this team offensively and that Joey Porter would be on pace to an All-Pro season with double digit sacks? No one.
he def gets pro bowl. if he gets the sack record then i'll start talking about DPOY. come back player, maybe, but it's not based on the sack record in my mind like the DPOY is.
