Jets vs. Pats Week 2 - Predictions?

Maybe that had to do with people like Harrington, Ferotte, Lemon, and Beck running the offense... Just a thought.

If Miami bounces back against Indy or at least finds their stride in the next couple of weeks this division is looking to be a free for all. The team that wins this division could be 1o-6 or 9-7 with the way the schedule is looking right now. For instance the Jets next three are at home vs. Tennessee, then away at New Orleans, then at Miami on Monday night. The Pats' next two games are at home but against the Falcons and Ravens, then they have to go to Denver. As for Buffalo they are at home vs New Orleans next week, then go to Miami, and then back home to face Cleveland.

Looking at that schedule I would not be shocked to seen New England at 3-2 (maybe even 2-3 and should have been 1-4 but thanks to you Buffalo for a wonderful choke job). The NYJ I can see at 3-1 maybe 2-2, if Tenn wakes up, coming into the Miami game and Buffalo at 2-3. For Miami I think they will need to win the Buffalo and NYJ games at least to stay in the hunt and if they can get a win vs. either the Colts or Chargers they could be leading the AFC East after week 5. That is a lot of projecting of course but it also shows the parity of the AFC East. Looks like this year could be another fun one.

It might be a point Chris, but i don't think it is a very good one. Just my opinion of course, but the kid is a player and he would produce no matter where he went IF he had the ball thrown to him.

 

i'm just glad i didn't make the pats win the game by posting a thread before the game was over. Because my threads have that much power! LOL. any, i'm always glad to see the pats lose but i want to throw up when a think about the jets leading the division!

 

1 TD in miami for like 3 season begs to differ marty......all the yards in the world is fine, but its about scoring touchdowns....just imo though

 

well, that is a reasonable point, but td totals do not tell the whole story, or are the only worth in winning. Many of those touchdown came after Wes moved the chains somewhere in the drive that scored

 

very true. and i hope im not coming off as a welker hater, i like wes. one of my faves here in miami.

my original post was they didnt miss him much because of the production they got out of the rookie endleman.......8 catches 98 yards and a 12 yard avg....is very welker-esq

 

he had 400 and around 670 yards in his two years here, hardly elite WR numbers(and 1 TD). And yes he is lucky that we took a chance on him in the first place, he is lucky he is with the Patriots.

Thats my point, he is the product of being on the same team as Brady and Moss.
I'm not saying he sucks, but the fact is he is not a an elite top 10 WR, hell I could name 15 that are better than him.

 

He didn't lead the team in yards, that was Marty Booker. I'm pretty sure he didn't start as a #1 or #2 either. He had the same # of TDs that year as Justin Peele and Derek Hagan by the way. You also talk as if JH had a problem throwing the check down pass with any accuracy. That was not even close to his biggest issue, he was a 66/67% passer while here from 10 yards and closer (not coincidentally, that was the area 58 of Wes' receptions were made).

 

Then we're arguing different things... Wes Welker is not an elite WR. I agree with that 100%. But he is a very good WR and very valuable (especially on 3rd downs where he lives). He's not just another guy like Brandon Stokley, which was my point all along. I'll just leave it at that...

Perhaps he's just another guy like Mike Furrey than? Because Stokely is a much more vertical player than Welker.

 

I think it depends on how you use Welker. I applaud the Patriots for using him to their advantage... Putting Welker in the slot and giving him 5 yard slants for him to turn into 15-20 yard gains is extremely smart.

I don't know if it's as simple to say as "if you just throw him the ball" but if used properly... he can be dangerous. Just like *gasp* Ted Ginn Jr.

Meh... Ginn isn't so much quick as he is fast. I'd rather see Moss and Ginn on the outside with Bess in the slot to be honest. But let's try not to turn this into a typical "Ginn argument thread" lol.

 

Most every WR in this league can put up great numbers when matched up on LBs.

Everyone says Wes is the perfect slot WR. Give me Brandon Marshall, Steve Smith, or Larry Fitzgerald in the slot (identical to what the Pats run) and I'll show you a better slot WR than Wes Welker.

He's not the perfect slot WR, the slot is perfect for him (because he doesn't fit well in other roles, and his skills are maximized in the slot). I don't think the two should be confused.

 

Yeah but if you put Marshall or Fitzgerald in the slot, I guarantee you that there won't be a linebacker covering them...

Welker is aided by Moss demanding double (and sometimes triple) coverage. I think being quick and a precise route runner is a good reason to put someone in the slot for those shorter routes.

I only saw middle of first Q, but was not impressed tbh by either team. I know we didint impress too many people vs atl, but hopefully we will chnage that monday. If pats and jests play the way they do, this is going to be a good race for the title.

Like I said before, Brady does not look 100%. He missed an easy TD, and wasn't accurate on many throws. His receivers didn't help him at times (Galloway specifically) and he was under constant pressure, but a healthy #12 wins that game IMO.

 

Wait..The Jets D has not allowed a TD all season. They played the #3 and 4th ranked offenses in 2008. Revis has shut down Johnson and Moss in back to back weeks. You are right. Unimpressive.

 

If Welker plays yesterday, you're sitting at home today wondering why your bubble keeps getting popped.

I'm not saying the Jets didn't play well, because they did. Offensively, nothing special, but they did get excellent pressure on Brady.

 

Absolutely. It's the Pats. The Jets have not beat them at home in 9 years. A rookie QB, a rookie HC...

AS far as the offense goes, Sanchez played to manage the game. Tghe Jets put the game on the defense. Aside from the 1 drive for the TD, it was a so-so day.

The fact is, this Jets Defense is nasty, and they do not even have all the starters together yet.

 

I'm not so sure its obvious. I'm not sure that Welker puts up any better numbers than Julian Edelman did. The Jets played a quality game yesterday and I was impressed with their defense, which was expected. Back after the draft, I said that they could be a better team than anyone will get them credit for if they were patient with Sanchez. They have been patient with Sanchez as they have not asked him to take on too much from what I've noticed but from what he's asked to do, he does it very well. He was the top QB coming out IMO and I think he's showing some potential. However, like I said in the Club Level, I still want to see the Jets offense against a quality defense. I don't find the Texans and Patriots to be under that description but some may disagree with me. The Texans can't get their defensive line to line up right, let alone play some defense. The Patriots are taped up, to quote SICK from another post.

I do think the Jets are a pretty good team though and I do think that they will be better than most give them credit for. However, I'm not worried yet.

One last note: I dislike the Jets but I've always loved Darelle Revis, going back to college. What a player he's become. He's going to be a VERY good cornerback, if he isn't already.

 

My sentiments exactly about Edelman, Alen. Aside from being out of position on numerous plays, he played well yesterday. I watched the game with my Dad, and he agreed Edelman is stronger, faster, and more elusive than Welker. I don't think the Pats were hurt that much by Wes' absence. Definitely not the reason they lost.

 

I think the reason they lost is the trenches. Their offensive line has been shaky for a couple years now and it's gotten to the point where they are rotating offensive tackles from what I've noticed. Its only one offensive tackle that comes in, Sebastian Vollmer, but he's swapping with their current RT and Matt Light at times. Other times, Vollmer comes in as an extra tight end and stays as an inline blocker. I know they've discussed pulling Light from the starting rotation and inserting Vollmer as a starter but I think they feel its still a bit early for Vollmer as he is pretty raw. They want to ease him in, IMO.

On the defensive side of the ball, they don't have any pass rushers. Burgess is a bit tough to depend on, Banta-Cain was a wash in San Francisco and now they are depending on a four man line to provide pressure and you could make a case that their best pass rushers are from the interior. Myron Pryor is a quick defensive tackle that can take on single blocks well. Wilfork plays as the nose and then they have Pryor as the under tackle. They have no one else on the outsides. Now, they are injured at the LB spots with Crable, Mayo and Tyrone McKenzie. To top it off, their secondary isn't as good as it was thought to be, IMO. They don't have a premier cornerback that can play man on a wide receiver so what that does is disallow Belichick to dial up quality blitzes. I know its a couple years now but look back at them allowing Asante Samuel to walk. They never thought they would be in this situation so they let Samuel walk. Now Bruschi retires, Harrison retires, Seymour is traded for whatever reason and they're facing injuries. Too much to overcome and a lack of talent at all three main positions.

good game. its nice to see that we may be finally getting back to the days of a renewed jets/dolphins rivalry for the afc east title. looks like the pats are fading and the bills, well, they're the jills. look forward to our oct 12th matchup. your offense isnt championship caliber yet but your defense is. similar to us. we'll see if we're hitting on all cylinders by then. we should be but we havent shown it yet

 

Edelman is better than or just as good as Welker?

I don't know if you're posting this in response to me but I didn't say that. I just said I don't think Welker would have put up better numbers or made much more of a difference.

 

No. However, it's easy to watch the two and see a difference in athleticism. Edelman broke out of a tackle I've NEVER seen Wes escape from. I don't think the drop-off (in that game anyway) had as big an effect in the outcome as you think.

Now if you're talking about route-running and being able to get open for his QB, Welker is obviously going to be better and has for quite some time now.

My (and I think Alen's) point is that Edelman's 8 catch 98 yard game didn't exactly hurt the team, nor do I believe Welker would have propelled them to victory.

 

Well not exactly towards you but......if you don't think he would have done any better, then yeah, that's saying you think Edelman is just as good.

Which is just ridiculous...........Welker is what keeps the pressure off of Brady due to their lack of running game. With Welker in the game, the Jets have a much harder time keying on Moss and taking the TE out of the game.

 

Exactly my point...he would have helped take the pressure off of Brady and took some attention away from Moss.

Edelman's game yesterday had more to do with who was throwing to him than his own talent.....

And I disagree, I think Welker not being in there is why Tom Terrific, wasn't so terrific
