Per Tim Graham. This is something I've kept an eye since the Jets basically traded Jay Feeley for Jason Taylor, Feeley is kind of a putz of a kicker (plays like a linebacker) but he had a great 09, Folk was waived by the Cowboys. But the Jets were under the restriction of only signing players if they lost players, but still, they should have kept Feeley as a erratic kicker will cost games...sooner or later..
I liked Feely. I thought he did a good job in 2009 with the exception of the ATL game where he missed one and had one blocked. That was the difference in the game. He also missed two in the championship game (one was a 52 yarder). Had he made them, the Jets would have had the ball down 7 with 2:29 left in the game as opposed to down 13. That being said, Folk gives me a heart attack every time he lines up for a kick. I am not sure what happened to the guy. Before the bye week he was 13/15 (87%), including 5 in the Minn game and a 56 yarder in the rarified air of Denver. Since the bye, he is 9/15 (60%) and his kickoffs are noticeably shorter. I think the dude is a head case. Stover is 42, but for a kicker I guess I can live with that. The pros: hasn't missed an extra point since 1996, 4th all time in FG's made, is 69/70 on FG's 29 and under since 2003, is 55/59 on FG's in the 30-39 range (so 39 and under he is 124/129 (96%) since 2003. Cons: since 2003 he is 52/68 (76%) on FG's in the 40-49 range and 3/9 on 50+. I can't imagine he can reach the endzone on a kickoff either. Personally, I'd rather have a kicker that is automatic from under 40 but can't hit a long one than a erratic kicker on under 40 who has a chance to nail a 50+ yarder. I guess we will see how Ryan feels.
