I wish it wasn't a 4th round pick and I hope to God he never play full time QB. But I like the move. And if you think stopping the wildcat was hard with Smith, good luck with Tebow.

A. I meant I wish it was a 5th and a 6th. The 6th doesn't concern me and the Jets have late round compensatory picks coming back anyway.
B. Brad Smith ran a very effective Wildcat. From 2008 through 2010, he attempted 6 passes and completed 4 for 51 yards. In 2008, Ronnie Brown attempted 3 passes and completed 2. Ricky didn't throw any. Tebow may be a terrible passer, but he poses more of a threat than Brad Smith, Ronnie Brown, or Ricky Williams.
C. Whether Tebow is here or not, people would be calling for the backup, no matter who it is, after Sanchez's first bad game. That's a fact. Same thing will happen in Miami when Moore lays his first egg. People will be screaming for Garrard.

Sanchez is the starter. Tebow is the backup QB who will also play in certain offensive packages. He is an extremely versatile player and from a pure football standpoint, considering the cost, it was a good move.

Tebow is an ideal fit in Tony Sparano's "Wildcat" offense.

Tony Sparano, the Jets' new offensive coordinator, was the mastermind of the Wildcat formation that took the league by storm in the 2008 and '09 seasons. He incorporated the modified Single Wing formation into his game plan early in the season to create numerical advantages in the running game.

The premise of the formation, which featured an unbalanced line, numerous shifts and motions, and the Fly Sweep concept, was to put defenders in a quandary using the triple option as a threat. Ronnie Brown, the Dolphins' tailback and primary runner, would act as the triggerman in the offense, with the option to give or keep the ball based on the reaction of the defense. With defenders suddenly asked to play assignment football, the Dolphins were able to exploit seams in the defense created by hesitant defenders unsure of the gap responsibilities. As a result, the Dolphins fielded an impressive rushing attack on the way to capturing the AFC East crown with the gimmick offense serving as the catalyst.
In New York, however, the tactic becomes more dangerous with Tebow installed at quarterback. As a veteran of the spread formation, he is a masterful ball handler, adept at running the zone-read option. His extensive experience with option plays from his days at Florida results in convincing ball fakes and makes the execution at the point of attack flawless.
Looking back at some of the Broncos' biggest runs in 2011, it is not a coincidence that the zone-read play was the common denominator. Tebow's deft ball fakes routinely fooled defenders, leaving Willis McGahee to scoot untouched through seams created by hesitation and indecision. With that dynamic in place in New York, Shonn Greene and others might benefit from the attention on Tebow in the backfield.

Tebow's passing skills will also take the Jets' version of the Wildcat to another level. In spite of his shortcomings in the pocket in Denver, he is a talented enough passer to exploit isolated matchups created by the formation. He demonstrated that ability in the AFC wild-card game with his game-winning strike to Demaryius Thomas.

If Tebow can convert on a few of those chances in the passing game, the Jets' flirtation with the gimmick formation suddenly becomes a headache for defensive coordinators.

According to the New York Daily News, Tim Tebow chose the Jets over the Jaguars in large part because he "sees a clear path" to the starting quarterback job.
Who can blame Tebow for believing he can beat out a quarterback who regressed in major fashion last season? Per Pro Football Focus, Mark Sanchez was one of four starting quarterbacks with a lower passing grade than Tebow last year. If Sanchez doesn't show substantial improvement -- all the while battling the Tebow circus -- there could be a new starter in New York by mid-season

There is absolutely no evidence to support that claim. None. If he wanted a guaranteed starting spot, he sould have chose Jacksonville. Wouldn't you say he had a better shot at starting from Day 1 there? Come on. Get a clue.

The money Gabbert's making essentially justifies his starting job, rightly or wrongly.
Tebow knows Sanchez sucks and the fans know Sanchez sucks.

The thing is Tebow will supplant Sanchez due to the pressure that will mount after the jets come out of the gate losing, and losing badly.

That hardly would have been a guarantee. He should replace Sanchez pretty easily by midseason. You should be happy. He's not exactly a great QB or anything but at least he isn't a spoiled, pampered pantywaist like hot dog is.

Bick...all your examples of the wildcat, they worked at first but what happened after defenses adjusted? The wildcat is useless now.
