It's about how you're playing when the playoffs start. You can be an 11-win team and "back in" by playing losing football at the end of the season. Conversely, you can be riding a hot streak going to the playoffs and be 9-7, if you've say, won the last 7 games in a row and been dominating. Let me spell it out again, so even a jet fan can understand it: when you lose 3 games out of the last four, and you clinch a wildcard the very day you lose a game, that is the very definition of backing into the playoffs. Yes, you won 10 games. Congrats on that. We're not claiming the jets backed into the grocery store, they backed into the playoffs, which is an accomplishment for an organization that has only made the playoffs 13 times in 40+ years (as opposed to the Miami Dolphins who've been to the playoffs 22 times).

Maybe. If they lost their game, but clinched a playoff berth in the same week, sure, one could argue that they "backed in". But they didn't lose 3 of their last 4 games in addition to losing the same week they clinched. I get your point about the last week of the season. Its all academic, really. The jets are reeling. I think it is debatable. I don't see them as reeling. They got blown out on the road in NE. will probably finish 14-2. Then they laid an egg against Miami. That was a terrible loss - no doubt. They then went into Pittsburgh and won. Great win. Then they lost to Chicago (at least an 11 win team) by 4 and scored 27 offensive points on a very good defense. It is what it is and that is why you play the games. Anything can happen in the playoffs and that's why you pray your team makes it.....because if they don't your chances of winning a championship are exactly zero.

I expect them to finish the stretch 2-3 with losses to NE on the road, Miami at home and Chicago on the road. wins would be Pit on the road and Buffalo at home. I guess we will have to agree to disagree, because I don't see that as reeling.
