http://mia.scout.com/2/949255.html The typed out version, it is missing the question about Mike Nolan's role.
BTW there is more info in the vid then the transcript, it goes another 5 mins or so after the transcript cut off.
The ending stuff is not very illucidating, the Nolan stuff was his first real public comments on the new DC and really should have been in the transcript. Keep in mind though, there are phinfans on dialup who can only really access the transcript and cannot watch the video.
Q: Can you still patch it up with Porter? Ireland: "There's always a chance. Right now, he's a player under contract on our roster. We'll be making those decisions." But this one about Turner is interesting. Q: How were WRs Patrick Turner and Brian Hartline sorted out as rookies last year? Ireland: "We took Pat earlier than Brian. These players develop in different stages. We just had Patrick on the board higher. Brian came in and learned the offense very well and did a nice job of developing quickly and learned a couple different positions at the same time. Brian, getting the playing time that he did, is ahead of Patrick right now. Patrick has to step it up. He's a player for the future. We like the player very much. He's a big, huge target, which this quarterback needs. We feel very good about his development." The last sentence here ???
What's really funny to me Xx is Ireland called Pat Turner..."...the player..." That is what Tuna called Terrel Owens in Dallas when Jerruh hoisted TO on him.
right before that he said it had nothing to do with what Porter said but all due to his performance on the field then he states there is always a chance to patch it up. makes no sense. the bottom line is JP is gone sometime soon.
I watched the vid, very enlightening. still have hopes Turner turns into that big, fast, #1 WR we all know how badly we need. Obviously Jeff Ireland and the rest of their staff know this just as much as we do. Good to hear they may still think Turner could turn out to be that guy.
ive been saying that this FO wouldnt give up on Pat Turner so quickly. Everyone just assumed he was a bust. Pat Turner is why Dez Bryant has no chance of being drafted. Thats not to say that he is the equual of Bryant just that we have our big target type receiver already
What did you expect him to say? "We think Pat's a total bust, we dropped the ball on that pick, sorry guys. I expect we will be cutting him in the next few days." Of course not, hes hoping for the best, saying the right things. Maybe its true, but this doesnt mean Turner is ready to be an all star. To pass on a potential all pro like Bryant because we have Pat Turner on the team would be ludicrous. I still doubt Bryant even gets to us.
No question about it. I expect him to be cut the first hour of the first day we are allowed to do so by league rules.
you dont pass on dez bryant because of pat turner but you do pass on him to draft a LB. Turner is just the justification for it but not the reason. if we didnt need a NT or LB Dez Bryant would be the pick.
This is a deep class for outside linebackers. You have weatherspoon, Hardy, Hughes, Kindle, and Worilds who can be available in the second. The same can't be said for the WRs in the draft class. We NEED a number one receiver. It will vault our offense from 15th to top 10 easily. And maybe with a full year of Ronnie Brown, progression from Henne and Ginn, even higher.
there are WRs you can get every round. Brandon LaFell (2nd) Demaryus Thomas (3rd) Jacoby Ford (4th) Andre Roberts (4th) Blair White (6th) Emanuel Sanders (7th) There are more WRs than linebackers. Plus the WRs class in 2011 is one of the best of all time
The receivers in this class are too weak. They all have too many question marks. That's why Bryant is the clear cut number one receiver in this class. There are plenty of GOOD linebackers to choose from. Especially 3-4 SOLB.
I know a lot of people think this idea is "crazy," but I agree about our offense. I can see an offseason scenario like: Signing Dansby and Antonio Bryant...then drafting (1) Dez Bryant, (2) Jerry Hughes, (3) Jimmy Graham, (4) Kam Chancellor. I think they like Soliai more than most fans, and I still expect Ferguson back at NT, honestly.
Signing Bryant and drafting Dez would help Henne alot. Btw, I got a text from ESPN saying the Buccaneers aren't expecting to bring back Bryant. Take it for what it's worth.
its all GM speak. you cant read into anything he says. you can take his endorsement of Pat Turner as nothing more than a contingency plan in case we cant do better. I expect Turner to be on the practice squad or on another roster by the time the preseason starts.
i would say greg hardy, graham and hughes are the only sure fire players i see at OLB with McClain at ILB. I also think LaFell is vastly underrated and D Thomas could easily end up the best of the class. I think it does explain our differences. I look at the draft and feel we have two rounds to get our LBs and the rest of the draft to find a WR while it seems like you feel just the opposite. Difference of opinion. Its what makes this site great
or ireland could be speaking the truth and he could be starting next year. i will say that dolphins fans are the least knowledgeable when it comes to how Turner looks since none of us watched him practice this year. The fact he didnt play on the surface is an indictment but the coaches are the only real knowledgeable people here
Pat Turner The fins are going to make him a TE. He is putting on weight and lifting weights. Wait and see!!! Go fins
Agreed. If we do sign Bryant, I wouldn't be opposed to an all linebacker draft. Sometimes that scenario does come to mind. Something like Mcclain/Graham/Jpp in round 1, Hardy/Sapp/Weatherspoon/Worilds/Spikes in round 2 and A.J Edds in round 3. We can then attack WR in next years class, which should be loaded.
Antonio and Dez would give nightmares to opposing defenses and put a smile on Henne's face. And that would close the Book on the Ginn story in Miami. We would still have a 2nd round choice to select a good linebacker with.
