With Vontae winning the head to head between rookie Cb, JT v Cam Wake may be a better competition. JT leads us in sacks with 5.5 and has a fumble recovery as well as a Int, Wake has 4.5 sacks and a FF as well as 10+ pressures in 1/4 of the plays JT has played in. So which one has impressed more? JT in his comeback or Wake in his limited chances?
Not even close... I love what Wake brings and might turn into... But JT has been playing lightyears ahead....he has sealed off the edge in the run game to a degree I didnt think hed be able to. He looks like he is getting quicker and stronger as the season goes. JT is back to being the best player on the defense. Dont forget to add JT's TD!!!
if jt stayed healthy i knew he'd do great things still.....considering i thought he would just get in during certain situations......yet hes starting and playing a ton of snaps....thats awesome for JT and great for us fans. but cam wake is a guy with high reward/low risk.....some thought he may not even make the team out of TC....and he plays small amount of snaps...and rushes the passer like a young jt or freeny......its insane how low he gets getting around tackles... if someone told me before the season halfway thru he would be outperforming joey porter on 1/4th the snaps....i would have laughed.
That's right, Wake was playing in the 4th qtr's of preseason games and I thought there was a chance he did not make the team. Even still he barely played in half of the games, for whatever reason, maybe too much loyalty to Joey Porter, Wake simply did not play more than a handful of snaps in most games. When he does play he is a really special speed rusher.
I would say both, and for all the reasons as outlined by Padre. But, put a gun to my head and I gotta go with JT. Dude looks reborn being back in aqua and orange. Love what he brings to the team. Maybe Wake will one day be as good.
Gotta give Wake a BIG thumbs up But i love seeing JT back in aqua. We're lucky to have them both.Don't you just feel like Wake has a bright future ahead for us?
Well in some ways we are seeing two really special things, JT the future HoF player still getting it done after being pulled off of the scrap heap and Wake quite possibly becoming a elite pass rusher and clearly the most successful CFL to NFL defensive player in the modern era. When people poo poohed Wake it was based on a solid history of CFL to NFL players being more likely the Redskin's Chris Wilson just a mediocre backup type of player. JT is literally climbing up the all time sack leader charts with every Qb he brings down, he is the young Dolphins fan's Hall of Fame player.
I think if you had added "BOTH", you would have gotten a sweep in the both column. I selected JT because I wasn't expecting him to be as fast and dominate as he has been. I knew Wake would only get in on passing downs this year. Wake is doing better then I suspected, but JT has been dominate and I didn't expect that.
Cam Wake can get to the QB, which is great. I just want to see him pick up the rest of the skills he needs in order to be on the field more often. Until then, JT gets the nod. He's been playing great, and definitely has started to pick up at the strong side. When the game clicks for him though, and Cam Wake can be a complete WOLB, look out. He's going to be giving that sack record a run for its money.
JT, but very happy with Cam. Cam has done a lot with not much playing time. Lots of future there I think. JT, for an old guy expected to play part time, and mostly be a pass rusher, has been playing well against the rush too, and is a full time player. Doesn't appear to be wearing down as many (including me) suspected he might. Very happy with how his return has worked out.
To be honest, I always knew Wake would be a great pass rusher. What will be interesting to see if how he looks next season as a complete OLB. However, JT coming back to Miami and playing as well as he has is very impressive. I thought he would be a 3rd down type of player, but him playing every down is a big boost for us.
Now padre, is there a doubt in your mind who I voted for? BUT he truly deserves it. He came back and has helped us tremendously and unselfishly.
A great point if one thinks about it, JT has taken Wake's OLB role, Wake is in JT's pass rushing specialist role, it all sort of sorted itself out.
Oh sure phins fans under 25 never saw Griese play or Shula coach, they would have been around 10yrs old when Marino was still good, JT though, they grew up watching him play, he is sort of "their" Marino.
That just makes it worse padre. I watched Shula, Dan etc. age. Then I watched JT, Zach, Ronnie etc. grow up. Man, now I feel old. Love ya.
I voted for JT but it could go both ways. I was amazed at how both players look like mirror images or each other. It is fun to watch these guys play!!
Has Wake proven he can cover, defend against the run? Not a rhetorical Q, an actual one for someone who has analyzed him extensively. JT is solid in coverage, against the run etc. He's more complete. Wake is pretty awesome though
I'm not so sure as you are in the Davis-Smith debate but I will address it in your other post. As for Wake and Taylor I would have to give the nod to Taylor who is playing a new position after being in the league for 13 years. The old adage,"you can't teach an old dog new tricks" certainly doesn't hold true when Jason Taylor's name is mentioned. As for Wake I don't think people realize just how good he has been in very limited playing time. Wake has 4.5 sacks on ONLY 90 DEFENSIVE SNAPS He has 12 QB pressures on ONLY 90 DEFENSIVE SNAPS This is incredible when you consider the handful of other players who have 450-500= defensive snaps... Wake-90 snaps...12 QB pressures Wake is #10 in the NFL OUT OF 160 OLBs IN A 3/4 DEFENSE AND 4/3 DEFENSE...MOST HAVE PLAYED 4,5, AND 6 TIMES THE SNAPS OF WAKE. Plus the fact that Wake seems so very hungry and produces EVERY time he see's the field. A very difficult decision kinda like which of your children do you love more We are very lucky to have both
did we really just say JT is solid in coverage ... because he is woeful. if he was solid, we could just put him against a TE, and let the nickel back or ILB cover the RB out of the back field. JT has played well this year ... but lets not say he was on a scrap heap or any of that bunk. yes, he flopped in WAS - due to injury and probably not a good fit for the scheme. JT is just back to being JT in a scheme that he knows and can play with his eyes closed (just from a different side). neither has impressed, albeit, the needle would bend towards Wake - since his ability to transition to the NFL was doubted in many circles. outside of both being speed rushers ... i don't see much else similar about them. in fact, Wake might be more of a JP than a JT by next year. i am happy with what we are seeing from both ... the OLB that impressed me was Anderson last week ... not that he was spectacular (he was pretty good), but that it seemed to come out of nowhere and totally unexpected. Now HE looked to be a bit like JT .... long, lanky and fast ... Wake is not long and lanky.
I picked Taylor because he is playing a position well that people kept on telling me he would suck at in his prime
Wake is just beasting as a nickel DE, literally he reminds me of a Freeney or Trent Cole, however what impresses me about JT is his "it" factor, the man just has radar like football instincts and just plain ol luck. And he works hard on the field to keep himself alive during plays. Wake has that eye of the tiger, JT is more polished.
Cameron Wake will eventually be the man fortunately, we have Taylor available & productive I say: play them both on the pass rush furthermore if Porter decides to enter into the fray find a way to get the three of them on the field during passing downs create a Triad of Terror to molest QB's every real dolphin loves a good Wake to ride
