It's early in the process, but this guy might just be the most impactful draft prospect in college football. He's got the potential to do for some team what Von Miller has done for the Denver Bronco defense.
I've been all over him for a while. He is much better than Mingo in my eyes. I am curious about his injury history though, because he couldn't get cleared to play at USC again and had to transfer to Georgia...
I am almost leaning towards getting him in the 1st to play a Von Miller OLB spot, then drafting someone like James Gayle, Corey Lemonier, Michael Buchanon, or Datone Jones in round 2.
I think we have too many holes to do that. It is a good thought, but we need help elsewhere. I do agree with you that Jones looks much better standing up compared to lining up with his hand down though. I know we run some 3-4 and some 4-3 so we could definitely get some interesting pass rushing schemes down with both him and Wake.
I doubt he'll be around when we pick so I'd settle for Chase Thomas in the 2nd round or trading up for him.
I am really curious to see what the medical people have to say about him. He couldn't gain clearance to play at USC and had to transfer to Georgia to get clearance. Depending on what is or isn't there could mean the difference on where he is drafted.
That would truly be something to see Jones fall on draft day. He could have an enormous impact for a team. I think Miami could get Dee Milliner around the 12-16 range if Jones is gone. With how well Miami is playing its hard to pencil in what we do with the first pick. If Miami doesn't address the WR position in FA the fans and media will get behind Robert Woods as the pick.
I hate the idea of a WR in the first. The position doesn't bring the impact necessary to justify the risk. It has to be a pass rusher or a CB.
Quentin Patton from Louisianna Tech, watch out for this guy as a dark horse for anyone looking for a receiver who can run after the catch.
I agree with this. The position is so hit and miss that I'd rather double up in the 2nd/3rd round than spend a 1st round pick on a WR unless it's an elite prospect (Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, etc.) that is going top three.
I finally feel useful on this forum, as I actually have some info about that. Jarvis is fine medically and there isn't much concern for a reinjury. The reason he couldn't get clearance at USC was more on their end than anything to do with doctors.
If the pick is 20-25, you more or less will have the pick decided by the draft board. The positions like OT and QB that could throw a wrench in your plans will likely be gone. Okafor or Banks/Rhodes is just fine. If the guy is a quality player take him, don't worry if you have two DEs right now as well as Odrick. I don't think it will be a particularly hard pick. My wild guess is that it will in fact be Xavier Rhodes and then a DE, WR, WR, OG/OT grouping the rest of the way.
Sometimes those mid to late picks are easier than the early ones because there is a certain player that offers too much talent to pass up.
That I do not know. I wasn't privy to of the stuff at USC before he transferred. I only know after he was already at Georgia.
