I haven't been checking the daily blogs and reports about training camp. How's Jake Long been doing? Has he given up any sacks? Has he pancaked anyone? Has he been returning punts?! Thanks for the update.
From what I have read on the camp blogs he only seems to have some trouble with the speed rushers but has been outstanding in run blocking. It doesn't sound like he's the next coming of Robert Gallery.
Well we knew coming in that he would have a problem with speed rushers. Our O-line, as a whole is having problems pass blocking. Not to be expected though. With the timing and orchestration that goes into pass blocking it is going to take more then a week to get it together. Things will settle down in another week or two and the starters will be getting reps at all practices/games as a unit and we will get better. On the good side, it looks like we will have a steamrolling running attack line and Long is a big part of why.
Thanks, that was the best rundown. I totally agree with you, I think its a little too early to judge anyone yet, it has only been the first week of TC. It is so crazy, Jake looks more like a huge TE then a lineman! He'll be a monster once he nails down his pass-blocking technique! At this point I'm still most concerned about the interior.
He's a beast. He'll eat up speed rushers for breakfast and bury guys run blocking. He's a future pro bowler in the making.
I've heard Long and Ginn have been spliting time at WR, and Long has even been running tackle eligiable play.
Don't pay attention to the sarcasm,He's doing a fine job for a rookie. If Jason were here he would be much further along in his progress, but that's not the case. When he gets his hands on a player for run plays he does exceptional. He needs more work in the pass blocking dept. In due time we will see just how well he plays the position.
http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2008/08/dolphins-repo-1.html "Jake Long is handling those speed rushers with ease now. Early last week they were giving him fits. But now his feet are moving real well. I haven't noticed Charlie Anderson or Quentin Moses giving him the business in a long time. It'll be interesting to see how Long does against Tampa. He's going to be playing A LOT considering the Dolphins have NO QUALITY TACKLES behind him and Vernon Carey. The Dolphins better hope he stays healthy...".
Had not read that yet! Man that is good news!!! I really think this kid is going to be special, I really do.
the right side is looking better than the left from what i've read, but that isn't necessarily bad. Long has actually improved a LOT since he started camp and is getting better everyday. THAT is cause for optimism right there. i heard that before from Oakland several years ago.
