It's time to cut ties with Joey Porter http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...kolnick's+Season+Ticket+|+Sun-Sentinel+Blogs)
Joey played hard for us last year, and performed when he felt like it(or when Sparano got on his ***) this year. Truth is, he was never really a fit here when Cam signed him and especially after the Trifecta took over. Thanks for your time J-Peezy, but we need to move on from here.
I've been the biggest JP supporter but if this were true, then his *** should be gone. In addition, if this were true, and it happened more than once, our Coach has no balls. So which one is it.
It's not unusual for players to waive off their subs if they are not tired. As for JP's future with the Phins, I don't care about the money (after all, it is not my money) my sole concern is his effectiveness in 2010, he had a bum knee and a hammy in 2009, but that is what happens with older players. I'd be fine either way, and is it me, or have the SunSentinnel bloggers gotten..well...*****y? Skolnick wants Porter cut Beradino complains about not being granted interviews.
We won't lose a thing with him gone and Wake taking his place. We will actually gain imo. Joey can't cover or defend the run, so if Wake takes his spot and learns while playing, its a win win.
I think that Wake is more than capable of taking over JP. Seems to make some kind of impact every down he plays. Either drawing a double team or just muscling his way to the QB.
I would be surprised if Porter returns. I would re-sign Taylor and play him and Wake on the weak side. On the strong side, I'd try Merling there and play Anderson. I'd also bring in a draft pick although probably not a first rounder. At ILB, I want a strong attempt at Dansby. If that fails I'd look at a guy like Foote. I have McClain as a fall back option after Bryant for sure and maybe even behind a couple of other guys. I think there's a fairly good chance that Spikes falls to our 2nd pick as ILBs generally drop on draft day.
Joey Porter does need to go but I wanna see Jason Taylor back. Taylor is a leader and knows his time is dwindling down. Besides that JT will be much cheaper.
JT brings more to the table than JP does, even at soon to be 36 JT can play SOLB and WOLB, and he can play DE better than JP can. Would Foote leave Detroit?
I thought I saw him on the UFA list but maybe I was wrong. I thought I remembered seeing a few available mid-level ILBs so if it's not Foote I think there are options.
Porter is a lighting rod, he talks too much and doesn't always back it up.....from the fight he got into in Vegas, to the suspension, for every good he does, he does the opposite......He was good in the playoff year I will admit, and his leadership will be missed, but if there is no CBA, dump him....no dead cap money along with either Wilson or Bell....is a plus ALSO if you remember JP, and Brandon Marshall had a war of words after the Denver game 2 years ago (remember Marshall said "What is a Peezy anyway?") ....those 2 don't like each other at all...what if they wanted to bring Marshall in, they got to worry about the ego's....
I would leave JP only on the roster if there were no negatives, in the event he just had a bad year last year due to injury. HOWEVER, there are negatives (specifically his sportsmanship as outlined in the article) and as such we need to pack his bags for him. He'd be a hope and pray everything works out player at best, and likely will not put up the numbers he did last year (where he was in most cases mismatched against inferior teams). Get rid of Porter, keep JT, and lets see what our OLB stable looks like for a potential replacement.
A bit more about JP: Hmm..we'll see, I suspect it will come down to money and health and not the other jibber jabber stuff. Basically, how are they going to pay JP millions in bonuses when JT would work for the bonus money let alone the salary? http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast
