Why do you think Turner was a sucker for John Jerry?, did he have many options but to truly and get the best out of what he had?, no sarcasm..
Man, I was just gonna talk about this again, you are right on point, well, at least I'd like to think we are on this theory..but let me pose this question to you?, as much as I love the idea in theory, how could you literally do that and avoid looking at other players? Put it into some sort of draft evaluating context and implementation process if you could?
I would be all about a plan to aquire Watson with our 2nd pick, guy loves to run around and hit people..anybody..lol..Wouldn't be opposed to a little move up either.. I love me some Jim turner, he developed some excellent prospects at a school not known for pumping out Olineman..if he gets excited bout Watson, if I'm Ireland I listen real close.
I don't think it is a situation where you avoid looking at other players. They obviously aren't, as they are looking at Tavon Austin and Sheldon Richardson among others. I think they are tired of seeing TY Hilton type players that are right under their noses become acorns for other teams.
To be fair they've always EVALUATED local prospects. They just rarely actually took them. That seemed like it may have changed a year ago as they took Lamar Miller and Olivier Vernon...but two data points unfortunately can't make up a trend.
Yes. I do not recall Turner being overly enamored with Jerry. It seemed to me he ended up being the starter due to lack of other options. IMO, Turner was basically stuck with him.
Then I think you need to re-watch. He repeatedly praised John Jerry's potential and said that if he were to get control of his weight, he would be an All Pro. He didn't say that to John Jerry in order to encourage him, he said that to the coaching staff in meetings. If you recall toward the beginning of Hard Knocks, Mike Sherman was flat out disgusted with John Jerry. It was Jim Turner who pulled Jerry out of that and insisted they give him rep after rep after rep. And by the end, Jerry went from a guy everyone was sure would be cut, to a starter. That was Jim Turner's doing.
What about McCloud? Any love for him, CK? He's someone that's likely to be a UDFA as he wasn't a combine invitee, but he made a few plays at FSU this year. Big guy, too. 6'2 330ish lbs IIRC
Yes. ..I know he praised his raw talent, and at the same time basically told him this is his last chance, but I don't know why your using the word sucker?
Way else is he gonna do with the limited talent he had in the roster, try to get the best out of them whatever means possible. I guess you mean because he was projected him to be an all pro based on some big ifs that he's a bad read of talent?
