i dont want to be a moaner or negative but its a worry for me!! i personally can not see we are ! surely after 13 weeks of the season we should be further forward in our development /progression not stuck in the "same old same old " spot we have for 13 weeks we been very very fortunate with injuries [marshall apart] so its been more or less the same group of players for the whole year apart from the odd FA so can not blame injuries! so why are we not developing , why do we coming out every game "flat as a pancake" , it seems every week is the same offense struggles, turnovers, defense keeps games close but cant get to the next level and produce game changes plays even the special teams [which was very good at start of season has regressed ] i fail to see any improvement any where basically this how we are and it wont change until we get some impact players i feel ireland is not that man to deliver those players! discuss please ! and cheer me up a bit lol!
As always, we'll find out more this next weekend. On the road against the 49ers who just took a tough overtime loss to a division foe. I don't give us any more chance to win this game than I did the Patriots game...so I predict things are going to get worse before they get better. Still not sure what's going to happen in the Jacksonville or Buffalo games. They played one another, beat each other up a bit.
Next week could be very ugly. Like Tennessee ugly or worse. The 49er's are smarting after that loss and Harbaugh needs to make someone pay for it. Tannehill could get hurt in this one as their d-line makes him a ragdoll. I'm not looking forward to this one.
No, they aren't, but I'm not sure where exactly you're expecting to see dramatic in-season improvements? Their record is going to be worse than their talent level, but for the most part the team is playing up to where they should.
With exceptions, when Tanny plays well the team looks pretty good and we feel validated that there really is good talent on the team. When he doesn't play well we string up Ireland
not making the same mistakes week in week out would help i dont call that dramatic one bit , i call that progression the o line gelling as one group a little bit more after 13 weeks together as 1 would help i hant seen much improvment if any our coaches seem happy with the way we play week in week out ! ,and do very little to change it via play calling have we used bush enough in passing game, use tannehill out of the pocket, too much 2 wr`s sets yes we have no 3rd receiver but bush ,thigpen, put out there all our soft coverage on defense why dont we play man a bit more , i know we are lacking talent and depth but iam not sure our coaches have used what talent we have in the correct way , just my opinion the most worrying thing why are we flat at the start of every single game are the coaches doing there job to prepare us correctly?
watch out for colin kaepernick to run riot with not just his arm but more worrying his legs we struggle big time with mobile qb`s and that defense of there`s i am going to have nightmares for tannehill and our passing game [or lack of it!] this was always going to be a longggggggggggg hard learning curve of a season , i guess i need more patience??
The defense is LEGIT. Just draft an elite pass rusher first round and then a solid corner in the second.
Basically, what you are seeing (IMHO) is a reflection of a rookie QB, and a rookie HC too for the matter. Both are learning to do their jobs at the NFL level. I also think the absence of a bonafide #1 WR, and a play making TE limit out offense greatly. As for Tannehill, he is still very much a WIP. He is raw, but we knew that. I see a lot of potential in him. But, I want to see more consistency and better decision making. I believe that will come in time. As for Philbin, I just don't think he has the talent to do some of things he would otherwise do. Particularly on offense. It will be interesting to see what changes occur in the off-season. I think either Ireland is gone. Or, he has to surrender some power to Philbin on player personnel decisions. Assuming he hasn't already (Marshall and Davis???).
At the end of the day its about the record, and we're likely headed for our 4th straight season with 9 losses or more unless we upset the 49ers or Patriots on the road... We finally had two impressive wins against good teams, the Bengals & Seahawks. But lost to some awful teams - Jets, Cardinals, Bills, Titans in a blowout. We've lacked the game-changing talent in the defense for a while, and it still hasn't changed. The secondary blows and the run D is good but doesn't get turnovers and cracks when we need them most, as seen yesterday. And we obviously know our offensive problems haven't been fixed. So no, I don't think we're improved until they actually show it on the field. And I don't trust the FO and Ireland to finally have a great draft, I mean a truly great draft like the Colts did, and a solid free agency, which we failed miserably at last offseason.
No, it doesn't seem as if we've made any progress and in certain areas (such as special teams and the running game) we've actually regressed. I have not been very impressed by what I've seen so far, and Tannehill has proven himself to be the fourth best QB in the draft, which isn't encouraging since we drafted him as the third best QB in the draft. That said, I'm still glad we took him and I don't want to give up on him---he could still prove to be a franchise QB, but it's going to take a few years if it ever happens. I find the coaching and personell problems more worrying than Tannehill. Ireland needs to be fired and replaced by someone competent and Philbin should hire a better offensive coordinator and special teams coach.
I was actually replying to Maynard with everything you just said. I can't help but wonder how long Ireland's leash with Ross is. I don't think that it's too long, because 1) Ireland was inherited when he purchased the team, which would presumably make Ross objective in his decision-making and 2) Ross has got to notice the bleeding fan interest/revenue.
i really thought we had improved in the special teams play and we had in 1st part of year we got a real threat as a return guy for once coverage units were top notch fields was mvp carpenter was the disappointment , thats changed on its head now! carpenter got his act together, coverage unit struggling, fields punting has dropped off a bit . i think rizza is ok as special teams coach , coyle has done ok as well as his 1st year i been far more disappointed with sherman being a vet off cord in the nfl and it seems the offense is very stagnant week in week out
another thing on coaching and i guess this lands at philbins door step i find it astonishing with the game on the line wake and odrich were not on the pitch due to number of plays !! to me thats BS!!! Philbin says he "absolutely" stands by having Wake and Odrick on the sideline during the final drive because of normal rotation.
I don't see improvement. We have the same problems every week. We can't run the ball, which puts us in tough 2nd and 3rd downs. We can't throw the ball beyond 10 yards because of any number of reasons, the main one IMO is the lack of trust in the offensive line. And we can't pressure the QB consistently. And none of these problems should have been surprising from day 1. I didn't expect Reggie Bush to gain 5 yards per carry again. We traded away at worst a decent WR. And we tried to turn our defense into a 4-3 when it's more suited to a 3-4, all the while not filling the hole at pass rusher opposite Cam Wake. Who seriously thought Odrick could play 4-3 DE and rush the passer well? If Jeff Ireland really thought that I'd almost fire him simply on that fact alone. I think there's a reason this team looks a lot like the Sparano teams despite having a different coach and QB. And the longer we go without improving on obvious problems the more the overarching problem points to personnel, and thus Jeff Ireland.
I feel the same way as many of you. I wasnt expecting a great team this season, and I knew that there would be struggles, but the team makes the same mistakes almost every game, in all three phases, and that includes coaching. They arent getting any better, which makes me worry that they never will. I think that the team has almost no choice but to let a few of the more expensive guys leave in the offseason in order to bring in a few playmakers on both sides of the ball. Even if we were to hit on three of the five picks that we have at the top of the draft, those guys arent likely to step in and be difference makers right away. The team isnt going to get better until they can force their way on offense into the endzone, and take the ball away from the other team on defense.
Philbin declared this season's goal as being better in December than we were in September. I'm not seeing it. So yes, that concerns me.
Philbin.Sherman, and Coyle are getting a good look at exactly what they have to work with so improving? I don't see that but they will be ready to make the correct changes to improve now come draft time.
YOU know its not a given that Tannyhill , Daniel Thomas and Mike Sherman will ever help Miami being into a great team. most people knew that Tannyhill suxs as a qb in college so at some point dolphin fans need to realize this the dolphins should have been smart and tanked the season last year an then gotten a stud qb that will make us forget Tom Brady instead the jets will et the stud qb and then presto Miami will end up with the worst qb in the division again. every team in the east has scored more then 24 points this year except miami . Miami has lost 4 out of the last 5 games and have looked lousy doing it. Now on the flip side the defense is improving but when you see how good Pittsburgh and Atlanta 's cb's are should tell us that our secondary needs better players there. if we were to rid us of Sherman and go after a real qb then i think we can start winning but we wont ever win with Sherman as our O.C .
Intentionally losing is pretty cowardly and dishonorable, but regardless how is that relevant to the discussion here?
i just hope one of those expensive guys is not randy starks its not everyday you have 2 dt`s of the quality we have ! and where do you start building teams , down the middle dont people say you let starks go,and mcDaniel is almost cert going as well there goes your depth at DT havnt a prob letting long, fasano go and i am getting use to the idea of bush going ,although i thought he would suit this offense system big time
Maybe. It depends on his price tag. Hes making 3.7 mil this year. Soliai makes 5.7 next season. How much are you willing to pay a pair of DTs, especially on a team that cant score 20 points a game? IMO, Long and Bush are history. After that, Starks is the hardest decesion, as he's the only one that we have an in house replacement for (Odrick).
I'm not sure how you come to that conclusion. The offense is scoring less points per game right now than they did after 12 games last season. The defense has played up and down throughout this season. Just as they did last season. The schedule the Dolphins are playing this season is one of the easiest schedules in the NFL, yet they are two games under 500 after 12 games. I am not sure what you have seen to make you believe this team is better than the 2011 Dolphins. To me, this is the same type of play this team has shown for the past four years. In fact if this team played the 2011 team, with Matt Moore as the starting QB, I would pick the 2011 team to win.
how much is the tag for a DT in 2013???? i would pay him $6m,starks has been our best def lineman over last 5years his still late 20`s and comes to play every week , i am fed up with letting these types of players leave ! i dont like the thought of odrich starting one bit, but its correct that of any of the players who are free agents ,odrich is the best replacement player at any of the positions lets cut ties with , long, fasano, bush , isnt that like $20m a year saved , you can pick rb`s up in latter rnds of draft and FA less than $6m a year reggie getting fasano $4m can go as well , and long at anything over $6m a year is pouring money down the drain in my eyes if ireland makes those [i know its a big if] decisions keep starks, smith, hartline we can afford to and still be players in FA if we sign long to anything over $10m imo you can write off another year of any quality FA signings
You could argue he is playing like the 5th best rook.Weeden has the same qb rating but has thrown for more yards and almost double the tds.
didnt see much difference again , same old same old ! some good things and some head scratching things , lets get some play makers mr ireland
I would say team temperament is better. On the other hand, the roster is worse than it was a year ago.
yep agree ! we hang tough we everyone one we play it seems ,then mistakes, that game changing play never happens .etc it did seem we game planned for the 49ers a bit better than previous weeks ! ,my point was more about the previous poster saying the qb had improved !
