We all know the old phrase, "Where there's smoke, there's fire," and I have noticed a bit of a trend. Yesterday, Chris Grier said that he's not trading Jaylen Waddle which had affirmed what the Dolphins had stated a few weeks ago that Jaylen Waddle is not being traded. This got me to thinking. Remember last off season when we were engaged in trade talks for Jonathon Taylor. There were reports that the Colts were asking for wild compensation including... you guessed it Jaylen Waddle. At the time, I dismissed it with a laugh. I thought that there was simply no way that we would trade a franchise WR for a RB in this current market. But I really do wonder... Why does his name keep coming up? The way I see it, Tyreek Hill is under contract through 2026, but realistically, 2025 will be his last season in under the current contract. In 2026, he is slated to make $56M. Not gonna happen. Waddle's last year under contract is this season, but we do have some wiggle room here. Clearly the 5th year option will be the absolute minimum, or he could sign an extension. My thoughts have always been that these contracts are layered quite well. Tyreek is 30 right now, and in two years, he will probably be on the decline. Tyreek will likely be gone, and Waddle will transition into our #1. I have even thought that I would not at all be surprised if the Dolphins actually draft a WR in the first round this year for two reasons - #1 to make a Super Bowl push, and to effectively have the same sort of the layering at the WR for position going into the future. With all of that out of the way, I really do find it shocking that his name keeps coming up.
Waddle isn’t going anywhere. The ONLY way I could see Waddle being traded is if it were a blockbuster Laremy Tunsil type trade, which I don’t see happening.

I don't think Waddle will ever be a number one option in an offense. If someone blows you away, i would be fine moving him. I would be weary of paying him a number one wide receiver contract which is what he's going to want.
Tyreek is such a moron off the field. Constantly putting himself in bad situations that blow up in his face. Horrible human being. Great football player.

As far as Tyreek goes, he's likely to hit a hard wall pretty soon. In the post-2011 CBA era where PEDs are tested better, guys at most positions, including WR, tend to fall way off between 30 and 32 years old. There are some exceptions, but those guys are usually savvy route runners who never relied on supreme athletic gifts to begin with. But take a look at the list of the best WRs to come into the NFL after 2010, and almost all of them became lesser players or retired at that point or earlier. Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, AJ Green, TY Hilton, etc. Last season, the only WR to have any kind of productive season at all over 31 was Adam Theilen, and he averaged less than 10 yards a catch. Only four had more than 600 yards at 31 years old. So Father Time is coming for Tyreek, and its going to happen sooner than a lot of fans think. So the Dolphins need Waddle, and others, when that happens.
I think Tyreek will be a classic case of people putting up with his nonsense while he is playing at an elite level, but once the sun begins to set on his golden years, there will be fewer teams that are less forgiving.
Yeah, Sports Illustrated was suggesting that the Dolphins should extend Hill to get some cap relief, and I was thinking to myself, "hard no." I feel like the analytics are pretty clear that the further over 30 that a WR is the more likely of regression. It is really dangerous to think that you have a guy who is the exception to the rule. Pay him for the next two years, and then let him be somebody else's problems.
A woman is suing Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill claiming that her leg was broken when Hill charged into her violently during a football drill. Hill’s lawyer denies that anything of the sort happened. The plaintiff is Sophie Hall, an Instagram influencer with more than 2 million followers. Hall claims Hill flew her to South Florida to stay with him at his home, and that what started as some friendly football drills on Hill’s property ended with Hill getting angry and hurting her. The lawsuit says Hill “charged into her violently and with great force, resulting in significant and serious injuries.” But Hill’s attorney, Julius B. Collins, told ESPN the lawsuit is “baseless” and was filed to “generate bad publicity for Mr. Hill in an attempt to ‘scare tactic’ him into personally covering the cost of Ms. Hall’s medical bills.” Hill’s attorney claims Hall injured her leg tripping over a dog, not from anything Hill did.
Yeah, the position of "sure everyone else falls way off, but our guy won't" is the kind of hubris that ruins your cap. Once players couldn't get away with being on HGH so easily, the era of "40 is the new 30" ended pretty quickly.
I agree that he's a bad candidate to extend. He's at the peak of his career and just had a season that would have been historic had he not been injured late. Paying him based on that would be a huge mistake because even though he has gas in his tank, he's likely to regress. Nobody's had a season like that before, which should be an indication that it might be a decade before somebody does it again.
Why couldn't he do that again this year? Or even better? If the O line is healthy they could do the same thing they did last year.
Its possible, but what about in 2025 or 2026? Are you willing to guarantee huge amounts of cap space to a player who's on a steep decline or too beaten up to stay on the field?
How is he on a steep decline? Or too beat up? His injury was from a drop hip tackle and he is fine from that.
Father time is undefeated. If you are paying close attention, there is writing on the wall. How many times this year was Tyreek yanked to go get him hydrated. He was banged up at the end of the season. Here is my theory - it will all come to an end with an ACL or leg injury. Tyreek will eventually suffer an injury of this variety, and he will come back without the speed he once had. Run your evaluation of Tyreek without breakaway speed. He pretty quickly becomes an undersized WR. One organization that I respect the most is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their bread and butter is that they would rather be a year early than a year late when holding onto to vets. Because of this, I cannot recall a time in which they were in cap hell.
I agree but he hasn't really shown that. He also never played in the heat and humidity of Miami. He exerts so much that it did affect him. Not sure it was father time.
I would ask Grier to sign here. She now qualifies as injury-prone but has shown she can bust a cap on Reek.

I like waddle.. but i agree he is a good option 2 like tee higgins.. and i dont know what the market says but it wouldnt shock me if he gets 17-20 mill per from some team..
The 2024 season will be the 4th year of Waddle's rookie contract, and for 2025 the Dolphins may play him using the 5th-year option. The discussion regarding Waddle's status should happen a year or two from now..
Unless someone offers a package of picks for him. They need picks badly this off-season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded.

No chance. Hill is gone in 2 years and you want to trade Waddle then? We going back to the dark days of 2020 and having no options to throw to? I’d seriously look into extended Waddle this summer with the remainder of that X money after rookies are signed. Get the deal sooner rather than later. If Hill goes down early you know Waddle is going to put up 1500 yards in this offence and then you are looking at $25M a season contract.
I've no issue with discussion and listening to other ideas and views. My issue comes when those ideas are batsh*t insane and they keep getting posted over and over and over. That's when the ignore button is useful. Also, sometimes you can just tell when someone is regularly looking for reactions from people, it's useful for those types of posters as well.

Nobody serious is going to discuss hypothetical trade value for Tua with you. He has no trade value. The Dolphins aren't trading him.
