Guys...I could sum up the show in three words... Gods Amongst Insects. But to elaborate, there isn't a band alive that can touch Maiden live. They get better every time I see them....and I've seen them at least 30-35 times so far. 26 years into their career with no radio airplay or critical acclaim and they still pack the Garden to SRO capacity. How many bands can claim that? The setlist was as follows: 01. Intro - Churchill's Speech 02. Aces High 03. 2 Minutes to Midnight 04. Revelations 05. The Trooper 06. Wasted Years 07. The Number of the Beast 08. Run to the Hills 09. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 10. Powerslave 11. Heaven Can Wait 12. Can I Play With Madness? 13. Fear of the Dark 14. Iron Maiden encore: 15. Moonchild 16. The Clairvoyant 17. Hallowed Be Thy Name Amazingly, during the last part of "Powerslave", the entire PA system blew out. How did Maiden handle it? While most bands would have either thrown a hissy fit or walked offstage until the problem was fixed, a roadie brought out a soccer ball and the band kicked it around for awhile before Bruce finally kicked it in the audience. Maybe to most people that's something meaningless....but to see a band that's been together that long hit a snag in the show and respond by having a good time with each other is just IMO the height of class and profesionalism. Once the power went back on Bruce cracked the crowd up by saying that it must have been "the ghost of Sharon...or as we like to call her, the Wickled ***** of the West." Here's some fan shot footage. Thank the Goddess for youtube man....not 12 hours since the show ended and it's up there already! Bruce also made my night by announcing that Maiden will be back soon...with a brand new album. I had a bad feeling that this was going to end up being a "farewell tour" of sorts, but Bruce thankfully laid that notion to rest. I highly advise you to check them out if they come to your area. Amazing show, amazing musicianship, and for a bunch of guys in their 50's....amazing energy. You won't be disappointed. *EDIT* That's MADISON Square Garden....my fat fingers screwed that subject line up!
Wow dude! Great songlist. I feel like I need to put on my old faded eddie shirt Vans checkerboard sneakers and shredded jeans.
Great news about the new album! I think their most recent albums (the last three) have been some of their best stuff ever. Certainly much better than the four albums before them (post SSOASS).
First of all-THANK YOU. I cannot wait until Wednesday! Second-I HAVE those shoes-my sister surprised me with them when I went to Disney in April. I don't want to wear them and get them dirty though! My sister says-"They're shoes-wear them for God's sake." I just can't bring myself to do it!
I loved that they did nothing but old stuff....But still I was hoping they'd do more off they're first two albums like Running Free, Killers, Wrathchild, Prowler or Sanctuary....but it was still off the hook!
Here's the vid of the power blowing out during Powerslave. Hmmm...won't let me direct link....but you can still watch it here: youtube.com/ watch?v=WOHN1Afo_hA combine them in the browser window.
Are you saying Maiden has a better live show than KISS?!?!
Seeing the Maiden intro to their show kind of reminded me of a KISS show. It gave me goosebumps just like only a KISS show has. I've never seen Maiden live and have only just recently started to really get into them. But I will strongly consider seeing them if they ever come to my area.
I actually LOL'ed at that one. The difference being that unlike KISS now, Maiden still has all the same energy they had when they were younger. I've seen both bands many times....no comparison. Like I said in my first post, no one can touch them as a live band.
I have nothing to add, except that Pagan's assessment is dead on-Gods amongst Insects. The show 6-18 at Merriweather Post was incredible! Best show of theirs I've seen-and they genuinely looked like they were having a great time up there.
