I've been waiting for something like this to happen, whether MMoore is the Qb or not, you do not want to lose all of your leverage if you do try to sign a FA Qb, or make a trade in the draft, otherwise the trading partner can take you to the cleaners.

The media (soflo esp) are a collective of douchebags so why not rub it in their face from time to time?

I dont think Ireland honestly believes Moore or Henne will be our starting QB next year. He just doesnt want to seem desperate to other teams. IMO

Pretty sure that career backup got him a few more wins.

No point in tipping your hat now.

That and we don't want to say anything about our future plans at QB bc we don't want to hurt Moore's trade value.

Might as well say, "I don't need a GM who is 6'2". I need a GM who wins." or "I don't want a taco that has a hard shell. I want a taco that is delicious."

To be fair, no one has taken the bashing that Ireland has. From the non issue with Dez Bryant's mom to this offseason of him being the reason that everyone from Fisher to Cowher to Lombardi's ghost would NEVER coach here.

He's also had to take **** for every move made since hes been here, whether its been Parcells or Sparanos decision.

He made a good call, he deserves one sentence in his favor.

    Amen.

I've always liked Ireland but this year I'm rooting for him even more just so he can stick it to all the whiners, and Dez Bryant's mom.

I kind of got the sense that he was defending Moore more-so than tooting his own horn..... but there was a little horn-tooting as like a "**** you" to the people who gave him **** for it. For as much crap as people dished out, Ireland deserves 1 innocent, little jab in return IMO.

You did give me two things that are unrelated.

You can have wins with a GM who toots his own horn and one who doesn't.

Costs him nothing to say such things, if we are going to shop around for another Qb it makes more sense to use MMoore's decent season to prevent us from being leveraged, as the Cardinals were for Kevin Kolb, and they still wound up starting Skelton over Kolb, even after the Eagles mugged them in that trade.

To mindlessly repeat "we need a Qb" is to just hand over the contract writing to Flynn's agent, or Manning's agent, or to kick off the bidding war with the Redskins to trade up with the Rams.

In this, as I've said all along, whatever Philbin wants to do, I'm fine with, could see the case for making a move or for keeping Moore and Henne, and both moves making sense.

I don't get how little jabs like that = arrogance.

God forbid the guy takes a shot at the dbag media he has to deal with on a constant basis.

For all the criticizing shots taken at Ireland for "not drafting Mallett in the first round, not going after Kevin Kolb, not trading up for Ponder, etc", how would it turn out if we hypothetically land a healthy Manning, draft Tannehill, and have Moore as the backup as a result of passing on all those borderline 2nd rounders/3rd rounder?

IIRC, Outside of Newton, Moore was the most productive QB available in 2011, so if we only get 1 year's worth of service out of our 2011 acquisition, bringing in Moore will have proven to be the best decision Ireland could've made.

Side note: I'll gladly take Tannehill over every available QB of the 2011 draft, so us not "overdrafting" or "trading up" for one them could prove in our favor.

Ireland doesn't deal with the media on a consistent basis and it makes them an adversary. If he was more public and explained what he was doing more we wouldn't have a case where the media rails on him all year and then he take his pot shot once in a while.

So I am saying that he deserves some blame as well. Parcells too for sheltering him

    Not really.

The media is an adversary bc they ask ******ed questions and make up bull**** stories.

I mean are we really arguing for Armando and Omar not being horrible? Neither of them should have jobs, imo.

Eh, do think he should appear more in the media, to explain his vision but not his actual moves, also think it is rather funny that win asked about the "Fire Ireland" banner, he said he lived for those moments and hired a photographer to take photos of it.

So. uhm that was 1,700 or so on that banner?

See, I was willing to give this article the benefit of the doubt until Ireland mentioned Chad Henne. Henne is a free agent. Moore is not. But it would seem to me that Ireland is blowing smoke here in an effort to say we're not as desperate at the qb position as the media is saying. He was doing fine in that regard until he mentioned Henne. Henne is a free agent and Ireland should know not to count him in his group of assets. Unless he's expecting to sign him before free agency starts... wouldn't that go over well here?...

If those are the moments he lives for then he has some pretty 'effed up priorities.

The man has accomplished absolutely nothing thus far in his career. Perhaps he will, but as of now, he is a nobody. and there is nothing more off putting than a nobody who acts arrogant because he doesn't "get his due"

How about say, "I understand the fans are frustrated. We haven't won as many games as we thought we would, but we believe we're on the right track and if the fans give us a chance, I believe they will be rewarded"

    Sounds better.

They are bad, but a lot fans probably thought that when they heard Ireland talk this week it would be all about how he is looking to add a Guard with the first pick lol.

An incompetent media that isn't spoon fed info (like more frequent Ireland PCs and conversations) will be left to their own devices to come up with crap.

Parcells wanted to control the media with radio silence. But you can also control it by being more open and trying to influence the narrative

I know it's early in his time here, but I'd be much happier if Philbin were making these kinds of comments about Moore...I think the kid did alright until the OL fell apart (boy is that a broken record) late in the year and he was getting beaten up back there. I think the organization owes it to Moore based on his performance to let him compete with whomever they bring in (well, unless it's Manning...there just won't be any competing then). That said, if they bring in Flynn, Manning, RG3 there won't be any competition. Tannehill, Weeden...maybe...

Philbin seems like he's way too calculated with what he says to make a statement on Moore like that so early.

I just doubt Philbin feels like he's seen enough of him to have an evaluation like that already. And even if he did, there'd be no good reason to tip your hand right now.

Normally there is a "evaluation process" where they "study every throw" blah blah blah, as Walsh said, 10 plays he could tell if he liked that particular Qb or not, but you need filler in the offseason/

Yep, all the time with that band, sheesh.

As for MMoore, I like this move and to me, I can see 3-4 teams that would be interested him as a better then just a backup Qb in the trade mkt, KC, Stl for example, even Detroit if Shaun Hill walks.

By using the measuring stick that it takes 5 or 6 years for QBs to mature and become effective I would think there is still some upside left in Moores development .

You only have to look at a couple of late developers like Rich Gannon and Kurt Warner to know that statement is true.

There will be teams who think he may be the next late developer so it does hurt to build up his value.

That would just indicate he hadn't studied Moore yet. The OL was at the fell apart stage the first 3-4 games and gradually put itself back together again as the season went along.
