For the bold, those who do this for a living and were polled, think he's outside the top 15. And this was after his promising season of 2014.

IMO 2014 was the one season where Tannehill's situation was only below average and not horrific. Other than his rookie year it was the only year they had a run/pass ratio of at least 40% putting him in fewer obviously predictable situations. There were still the issues with the poor pass route combinations, protection issues, coaching, etc., but he at least had a chance where the the D couldn't just pin their ears back. I see too many predictable situations as skewing the odds so far in the defense's favor. In a balanced situation you get to a more realistic representation of what a QB will produce. While 2014 wasn't balanced, it was closer and his stats reflected that. I think it's reasonable to expect that in a better balanced situation his stats would be even better. That year his rating ranked 14th, his comp. % was 5th, his Y/A was 27th (but I've generally found that anywhere around 7 was fine), 13th in TDs, 14 in TD% and 9th in INT%. Most of those stats were top half or better. I see this as the one season where we could get any kind of a read on what Tannehill is. I know his detractors will see this as cherry picking his best season, and stats-wise that would be the case. But I don't evaluate primarily on stats or results. My evaluation is based on the individual skills I'm seeing and how those would translate given fewer offense-wide breakdowns. You're never going to get perfect play from every body, but given average play from the rest of the offense and average play calling, coaching, etc., I would expect to see Tannehill's production to be better than what he produced in 2014 given below average support. Now obviously what I am saying is my opinion. But I do not believe my opinion is based on bias or hope. It is based on what I have seen and I think it's why Gase has been so supportive of Tannehill. From the stories we hear about Gase, I think he's a guy who does a very good job of seeing who is to blame when plays fail. He's had success minimizing those failures and putting his QBs in situations where they have a chance to succeed. I know some will say Gase is just backing him b/c he has to, but Gase didn't have to pick this situation. I don't think it's likely that he would risk his reputation as a QB whisperer and possibly his head coaching future on a QB he didn't believe in. My feeling is that Gase is a genuine guy who is chose this situation and is supporting Tannehill b/c he sees the same skills I see and places the blame for the stat failures more on other areas of the offense and less on Tannehill than the media and fans do.

Hey.. certainly hoping you're right about Tannehill's production in a better system. We'll see this year.

Kinda disagree with what you said about Gase though. I think he's in a really good situation QB-wise because it's really Tannehill more than Gase that's on the clock, especially given T-Hill's contract situation. Gase can come in, try his best with Tannehill and if it doesn't work out Gase is still fine. Ross has proven he is more patient than others (sometimes for the worse, hopefully for the better with Gase). So Gase will have a 2nd chance even if Tannehill fails.

Ryan thrived in a system that made Nick Foles a rich man....once those defensive minds in AFCE got ahold of some tape they took away a lot of those concepts and the offense as a whole never adjusted from Lazor to the OL to Ryan himself.

This year he looks to have a MUCH better OL around him, a pro bowl slot guy and a potential budding star in Parker. I have no doubts this will be Ryans most efficient season he has ever had.

Then we can start improving the defense and BAM! SB
