They can ruin a season, and considering how short the season is, I think I'd like to see the league allow teams to increase the size of their squads. Better for teams to be able to build more depth and keep competing rather than suffer a key injury and have no shot.
No, but the chance to find and develop more McTyers and hold on to quality players you might have to cut right now means you can either have depth where you need it, or perhaps more trade material to bring in players where you don't have it. At the end of the day, it doesn't hurt anything to have it, and gives teams more options. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
