How much time should Pennington get in next weeks game ? How do you split the time up with 3 others ?
Depends on how he's doing in practice and who's still on the roster. If he's the clear winner of the job, then maybe one series to run through what you want to do at the start of the season. Pennington has been in camp for the Jets all year, so he's in football shape.
I'd like to see him go a half, especially if we keep our starters in most of the time, we need some film of Chad working with our starters to see what needs work and improvement.
Two series. Don't want to risk an injury with him. He can continue to learn the playbook on the sidelines after he's done.
I'd say at least 1 quarter and possibly into the 2nd. He may be able to learn the playbook on the sidelines, but he also needs to get a feel for his receivers, and visa-versa. You can only do so much of that in practice.
I want to see how he performs with the rest of the starters and especially the WR's, who can't seem to get open or catch if their lives depended on it so a half sounds like a good option for me.
I agree. Since there wasn't an option for 1 1/2 quarters then I chose the first half even though I dont think he should play that long...but a quarter and a half sure...unless our D gives him about 4 series or so to work before it goes that far. So.....4 series or so would be good.
Probably just one or two series in the next game. Then he can play an entire half in the 3rd game and sit in the last one.
Agree. Plus he's going to need all the time he can get building familiarity with his receivers' tendencies. I think some maybe dismiss the importance of the QB and receivers becoming familiar with each other. One route, 5 different receivers, and 5 different looks on that one route. It takes time.
I say one qtr, Pennington needs to be in sync, so that he can stick it to fav-ray and those stinkin Jets.
Nooooo...... No way can he sit. He needs to play at least one series in the last one to continue getting in sync... The good thing about that first game is that although the Jets D might know him.... He knows the Jets defense better than anyone... I think that will give us one hell of an advantage.
Without a doubt more than a series, im not sure if he's ready for a quarter yet but i think 2-3 series should be enough. I think in our third game he should play at least a quarter and then rest up more in the fourth game.
i voted a quarter, but would prefer it be toward the end of the game. i'd rather give Beck & Henne time with our first string offense to see more of what they can do when given the chance if we annoint Pennington as the starter without fully giving Henne & Beck a chance, i think we'd be selling ourselves short.
it's too early to say now. I'll answer on Friday. It will all depend on what he does in practice this week. I still don't believe he is a lock to start week 1, though he is the favorite.
He will learn it quick. He needs playing time and lots of it before week 1. Pending he has a good week at practice, give him a half to get even more comforatble with the other players. Play Beck and Henne in the second half.
I say give him a quarter with the starters to try to develop some chemistry. And if the qtr ends with us on offense, let him finish out the drive. Then put Henne in and start getting him as developed as possible. The chances that CP plays 16 games are not good.
I think I would put Chad Pennington in for a half because if I were the coaching staff I would like to see how much of a grap he has on the offense. I just dont think a quarter does not give the coaching staff that much of a chance to see that.
A half, he needs gametime. Studying and practice are fine, but gametime is very very important. Im not saying leave all starters in for a half, but for maybe a quarter. Then he can play more in game 3 and a series or two in game 4. Get him in the game. This comes with the caveat that Sparano is gonna make him the starter and suspend the competition for the most part. If he wants open competition (in more than name at least) then maybe just a quarter.
