If you could only fire one, who would you let go? Philbin or Ireland?

You are ignoring the fact that our completely undermanned team beat NE's undermanned team. Of course were their issue comes from injuries ours come from our GM who assembled the worst OL, running backs who are inept in all 3 phases of the game and of course managed to make our great defense worse with 3 high round draft picks and the "upgrade" at LB.

Going beyond the advanced analytics, our head coach has managed to take this roster, make them a playoff contender, add to last years win total and has us playing for a possible winning record and the possibility of playoffs. I know this isn't the endgame but it's a great start, especially with the glaring holes this roster has.

You just don't fire a coach on his second season when the team is winning more games with a young roster and QB. Half of our starters are new. Many of which are learning a new system.

I have not called for his firing..

I'm trying to figure out how we lost control of our season with a all world ass showing with everything on the line..

I am in the blow it up camp. That includes Philbin because I do believe he is slow to deal with glaring problems or to make staffing changes that are necessary without said coach having his unit completely screw the pooch.

We got something going offensively, but we need to evolve from Sherman....especially Ryan. He can't go through life limited by one OC's vision of him.

Our best defensive players are over 30 with questionable youth (even Vernon due to his run blocking and his 7 sacks coming in 4 games...blip?). Bloated overpaid piss poor LB's and Coyles questionable schemes. So blow up that defense from the HC coach down. Drastic.....yes. But I don't see a consistent playoff team with these coaches.

Everyone knows the bill front line is badass beastly..everyone knows our oline sucks ass.

Runs up the middle between the a gaps..stationary pocket..one or the other, no misdirection, no deception, nothing outside the tackles, no moving pocket, no bootlegs, no Ryan finding a lane and running..no read option..

Should we have done a better job predicted what was gonna happen and game planned accordingly.?

And that's on the coaches. Combine with our drafting/FA pickups.......BLOW IT UP!

this is the most ill-conceived, ridiculous thread...
a veiled attack on Ireland & a totally negative, worthless piece that does nothing to brighten Christmas or improve the franchise or forum.

by the way, Merry Christmas to everyone & the very best in the coming New Year!

once again, your minimilizing what I'm talking about..it's not about a speech..

My debate in this thread is that some of the losses we've had were not because a lack of talent.

You mentioned inspiration or motivation. What inspiration should a coach bring that would have changed some of these losses? It's not about that. It's about being out coached in close games, which has nothing to do with motivating players. Putting players in a position to win, with the correct call, or empowering them to make a play, rather than playing not to lose has been the difference in the close losses this year.

I feel like guys think there is a Knute Rockney speech given at the start and half of a game and it will turn things around. It's not that much different than life. Identify the issue, assess the cause, come up with a plan to fix it.

I'm curious. When you have a bunch of players that cannot win one on one match ups, exactly how are you going to put them in a position to win?

You can't fix a lack of talent during the season.

However you want to quantify it I don't care, but when you lose to the bills when you have your playoff lives on the line, in the fashion they did, after losing to them at your own house, tells me something was wrong with the mindset of the team..the mindset of the team, the anger and sense of urgency they go into a game with, is the responsibility of the head coach finding ways to push his team to get to the right mindset..

While this last lost stunk, I think it's important to keep some date relevancy.

The worst loss this year was at home against the Bills. That loss just can never happen. Just can't happen.

We never score on our opening drives. Our offense is most productive when we're running hurry up without the help of Sherman.

My main quips are offensively, although, I'm not opposed to improvements defensively. The issues their are more personnel IMO (Ireland).

I also think Philbin's management at the end of halves is a little less than to be desired too. He's made two vad decisions to allow Sturgis to kick FG's that were brutal too.

The Jets beat the Saints. Does that mean the Jets are a really talented team or did they just happen to be the blind squirrel that found a nut on that Sunday?

We can continue to cycle through coach after coach after coach, but until the talent on the field improves, it won't make a damn bit of difference.

Clearly the offensive play calling was for **** last week. Maybe RT & Wallace should have drawn a few plays up in the dirt.

We aren't discussing the Jets so I won't even reply to that. The talent on this team was good enough to beat the Bills last week, the coaching wasn't. Am I saying the talent on this team is great? No. But it's like round hole, square peg some games and the coaches won't adjust.

Where was the talent good enough to beat the Bills? The Bills have the best front 7 in football right now, or one of the top front 7s in football. We have the worst offensive line in football. This game was lost before we ever set a foot on the field. This team was never going to be able to block that front 7 well enough to win. In two games against the Bills this year, Ryan Tannehill has been under pressure on 33 of 73 total drop backs. With the lack of talent Miami has up front, they were never going to be able to block a front line of Kyle Williams, Marcel Dareus, and Mario Williams at all, no matter how much they moved the pocket, changed up the blocking schemes or attempted to run the ball.

I think their both very bad losses, what I'm trying to figure out is it a talent issue or something else.

The fact that Sherman and Philbin did not think it would be wise to move Ryan around, to demand and coach him to accept that pressure was going to be in his face, to not use all his strengths in the gameplan, to coach him up so much to stay in the pocket the guy has just completely abandoned that part of the game, to not use his unique ability to go left or right and throw, it's very puzzling to me..

Did you know last year when we beat the bills, Ryan ran the read option 10 times for over a hundred yards.

it's a good point, and I have mentioned that maybe they knew they couldn't matchup after the first series and that sent the shock wave thru the team, I can see that happening, but why have the bills won 5 games then? Why did we give up 200 yards rushing with our front 7? Is there not alternatives to cover up the weakness to the oline..

A weakness up front is as hard to cover for as a weakness at quarterback.

The reason Buffalo only has 6 wins is inconsistency at quarterback, and other teams simply match up better against their front than we do.

And why would it surprise you if the Dolphins make they playoffs? They are the heavy, heavy favorites to win the six seed. They are at around 58% to get it and the next closest is Baltimore at 18%.

I think most here would be surprised based on this teams history and last weeks showing.
Throw in the fact that we still need help, along with this Jets team being better, then the one we faced a few weeks ago.
