Its just like the Dungy situation in Tampa. Dungy for so many years could get the team close but couldn't get them over the hump.
He failed plenty on his own. You don't get a perfect team every year, it's your job to maximize what you have and take it as far as you can and McDaniel's "far" wasn't ever far enough. Too many big game losses, primetime blowouts, feckless international play. The Turd Quarter struggles ... lot's that can be put on McD's plate that lead to his firing. I'm super disappointed he didn't work out, but he's no Tua/Grier scapegoat. Honestly, 9 years with 0 Super Bowl appearances when many of those years you have a top 3 QB in the league? That's a high floor but you need to break through at some point. That said, I think Beane was the issue more than McDermott. I'd be down to let him lead a rebuild and see where it takes us. Unrelated to the Buffalo situation, but I am hearing we are giving Lion's D Coordinator Kelvin Shephard a second interview as well as Hafley. If that's the direction we go ... man I just don't even know.
For me, if you're winning 10+ games per year and winning some playoff games, you're just as good as anyone out there. I do believe the phrase "Any Given Sunday" and I don't think the best team always wins. Josh Allen just had a bad game this go-around and it's not the end of the world. Every QB has a bad game from time to time and that's when the other 52 players are supposed to carry him a little bit. Buffalo is in a position where they can tweak the roster year to year and eventually they'll be where they want to be. Tearing that apart even a little bit is ridiculous to me and they won't be as good next season.
He had two good seasons, which happened to coincide with Tua being healthy. But what do you do when the guy you're hired to manage stops being reliable? That's what led to the power run game late this season. I would have kept him but it doesn't matter at this point. We're on to the next guy.
Last time I looked the Coach doesn't actually play on the field. They don't turn the ball over. Slip. Make bad throws when the guys are wide open. Drop passes. He's the best one out there. Hire him. The coached job it to put them in the position to win games. He's done that in spades. The players have to execute and there's no reason why Allen shouldn't have been executing better. Man those crocodile tears at the news conference were a joyous sight.
They would lose by 30 every week without Josh Allen. What is that team other than "Hope Josh Allen pulls some magic out of his ***" every single week?
