My bad, I guess an NFL team taking the projected #1 pick off their board isn't news...ok man, whatever you say...The conversation that took place only justifies the position that some have taken on the player...My personal goal is to make sure that your boy becomes a humble man one day.

I think Cam Newton will be a special player in the NFL. I am not sure how he will pan out in the NFL and I am not pretty good at guessing how well or not he will do. I am more curious on who will draft him and then watching to see how he do. Regardless of how long he plays in the NFL, I know he should be fun to watch. Let's pray for a NFL season to get started so we can see what happens!!

Nothing of validity in this and even if it is one team , it is just one team.

His juco coach came out swinging for him , the proof will be on draft day , and as I have said for many many months he will be a very very high pick if not #1 overall.

Tired of this lame duck time of year , we need the draft to happen and get the teams and players all on board and start building this team again , imo.

Denver and Arizona lack both the front office and quarterback leadership that this mystery team supposedly possesses. (Tebow is a leader; Xanders is a nobody. Denver doesn’t qualify.)

Could be Dallas, could be New England, could be the Giants, could be the Colts, could even be the Saints. Could be BS, because none of those teams are interested in starting a new quarterback in 2011, which selecting Newton would mean. Though, going by dj’s stated description, it could mean New England is looking at Kaepernick at 17 or 28. If so, I’m rubbing my hands with glee. They can have him.

It's not surprising to me that Carolina may take Newton. Carolina is one of the worst drafting teams in the league over the past few years. The fact that Newton will go high doesn't prove anything except the fact that NFL front offices continue to be stupid about their decisions. Remember, Vince Young was the 3rd pick in 2006.

One doesn’t follow the other. Bud Adams drafted Vince Young, not the Titans front office.

I've said over and over again that I think he'll dominate the NFL. Of course, that's just my opinion. How could it not be? We're all trading in opinions on these boards, whether we preface our sentences with "in my opinion" or not. I think that's taken for granted, don't you?

The only thing I will say is that I kinda disagree with #2 and #3, from the standpoint that if he goes high, like say top five, then the pressure for him to be a top five worthy pick is there...and, for the rest of his career. And, for better or worse, there's no escaping that. Whereas, if he were to be picked later in the draft (and hypothetically let's just say not in the first round), the expectations (and pressure) are much less of a factor. Taking that even further, if he were to be drafted by a team with a quality starting QB already entrenched, then it's pretty much a given that he's gonna have at least a year or two (maybe more) to learn the system and make the transition from the college game to the pro's.

In other words, IMO if he does go #1 to Carolina, I think it increases the likelihood of him busting considerably. JMHO.

The only interesting thing about this really is there's a team out there that is so free with their information that DJ was able to get hold of this. But then, that team probably doesn't care because as DJ pointed out, they have "strong leadership at the QB position".

That's pretty much the key point though, isn't it? Should it be surprising that a team that has a quarterback who will now be competing with Cam Newton wherever he goes in this league, will tend to look at Cam and measure him up next to the guy they already have and that they believe in, and conclude that Cam doesn't measure up? Really? That's a surprise?

What's not surprising, because it's been reported a dozen times, is that some teams hate Cam Newton and some teams absolutely love him. It's been reported for a long time that there's no middle ground. I like that DJ has been able to confirm this, it's another data point and instead of giving him grief people should probably just thank him for sharing. But it's not something that changes what everyone already "knew"...just something that piles on top of the confirmation pile which was already stacked fairly high.

As rafael says, Newton is a "polarizing" draft prospect. He's not the first. Phil Rivers was a very polarizing draft prospect at quarterback. Some GMs didn't care about the delivery and they just saw a beautiful quarterback. Other GMs saw AT BEST the next Bernie Kosar, and probably someone worse than Bernie. Michael Vick was a very polarizing draft prospect at quarterback, hence San Diego trading OUT of position to take him even though they needed a quarterback badly.

Nobody's talking about it, because he's not as highly rated a prospect and therefore not as interesting to the public, but I'd be willing to bet behind the scenes that DJ's boy Colin Kaepernick is just as polarizing. I would be willing to bet there are teams out there that wouldn't take him until the 4th round, and teams out there that would take him in the 1st.

That's a good point about CKap and Rivers. Like character issues, unorthodox releases always seem to generate strong opinions as well. I remember that there were many who criticized Marino's release when he was coming out as well. I hadn't included CKap with Newton and Mallett b/c I don't see him as a first round guy (2nd IMO), but you're right that some teams possibly do.
