We're last in the league in defense points against us, and rushing yards...

Let's roll the dice on a first round QB! Great idea!

Let's get some competition for our QB of the future "BECK?"..., whether it be FA or whatever..., the Offense is never on the field..., did you notice..., our offense should concede their checks to the Defense...

I agree we should get some competition at qb, but not at the expense of a first rounder and the money we need to tie him up.

I don't see taking a QB at 1 or even in round 1...I can see us traying to get a free agent but there aren't any worth starting, at least not many.....I still think that Beck can start for us.

    Ozzy rules!!

Competition is brought in through free agency and lower draft picks. You don't take a QB #1 overall just to turn up the heat on your second-round rookie QB. That's sheer idiocy.

How can the offence take the field when the defence cant stop anyone? Especially on third down. Did other teams even notice when it was third down?

I agree competition isnt a bad thing, but a first round pick isnt "competition." A first round pick means John Beck is getting cut or traded because a first round pick *is* going to be the starter sooner rather than later.
If we take Matt Ryan it means Matt Ryan is going to be the QB, if not on day one than by his second season at least. It means John Beck will almost certainly not be in aqua and orange.

Personally im not a huge beck fan, but watching our defence was just painful. Line made of swiss-cheese, Linebackers i think were all cut in the preseason. And did we even field a secondary? We spend loads of picks upgrading the offense last draft, now its time for the D. We need a big time player making plays up front for us for the next decade.

i say trade go after an experienced QB from round the league. Someone like Anderson from the Browns, hence i say 'somone like'. Maybe keep butter hands beck as a backup. Green should go. Hes done.

Then contentrate on bringing in some Star O-Line, Defensive corners, a saftey... and maybe another killer Linebacker.

with a few good picks and trades we can get it done.

I dont think another youngster/freshman from college is the answer at QB. Bring us a big gun.

    A Healthy one. No C-peps

Beck could be groomed to be our backup. We draft Ryan and have Beck as our backup for the future. Bring in a vet for next year and we're set

Unfortunately if we can't trade out of the #1 slot we'll have to take either Matt Ryan or Darren McFadden. I don't think anyone else is worth the number one overall pick and you can't take someone who maybe rated as a top 10 pick just because that's a position of need. And since we can't invest 30-40 million in another running back that seems to leave Ryan by default so we desperately need out of that pick.

I'll let you know after Senior Bowl week. At this point its a consideration as is trading down as is drafting defense.

Okay, because quite frankly, I think it would be best if we went after the top three linemen in the draft (Gholston, Dorsey, or [Chris] Long).

I wont be upset if its Gholston or Long. I would be worried if its Dorsey. One I dont think he's as dominant as a 3-4 DE and two I dont trust linemen who have back problems. They tend to always recur

The second Round QB "Beck" could have likely been nabbed in the later rounds..., and you need to go back to the first thread..., and re-read it...

The team needs depth and competition... Cam Ram set him up for failure not realizing he might be called upon...

But the big question is...is Ryan worth #1 pick $$$$$$$$$$$$........If Parcells thinks he will be available later in the 1st round, the fins can trade down and save that cash for some free agent signings.

Yes it needs depth and competition but not at a $30 million price tag. Bring in a cheap Vet to create competition. Use the money for something else, like Defense or O line.
The point is there is no QB coming out this year that is a guarantee. Their stats are similar to Becks when he was in College. Develop what we have before investing in another QB.

No offense man...but why are you such a huge Matt Ryan fan? How can you ever expect us to build a team salary cap wise by sinking so much money into a guy who may or may not ever be our starting QB? YOU DONT SPEND $60 MILLION DOLLARS on a guy who has a 50/50 shot of being a starting player.

He'll go top 5 depending on the draft order which has yet to be worked out. My only point is if we're forced to use the overall top pick you have to get value out of it regardless of need and the only guys that appear to be worth top pick money are McFadden and Ryan neither of which would appear to be our biggest need.Hopefully we can trade down but it isn't as automatic as some appear to think. Ryan could end up as a Matt Schaub type of transaction where he stays on the roster for a couple years and eventually gets traded for a couple of firsts. This assumes that Beck will work out as the franchise QB which I hope is the case.

this is logical...except that miami just has too many holes to pick a guy #1 overall and stash him away in hopes that we can move him in the future.

the falcons had a guy in vick they felt was their franchise qb. they then selected schaub in day 2 of the draft with the intentions that he would be their backup. fortunately for them, he played well enough to draw interest form other teams.

    Colorado Dolfan ...dirty drownin' man?

    Agree there, Silverphin...

A guy with less YPG, less TDs/G, lower Comp %, and more Ints/G than our second round pick last year as the overall #1?

Sure, stats don't tell the whole story, but they say enough, IMO...

    Coming out of college:

    Beck: YPG- 324, TDs/G- 2.7, Comp- 69.3%, Ints/G- 0.7
    Ryan: YPG- 322, TDs/G- 2.2, Comp- 59.3%, Ints/G- 1.4

I would NOT draft a QB with the overall #1 pick, but I would draft down and if Ryan or Brohm are there around the #10 spot I would grab either one. If any of you in here think John Beck is our future QB I laugh at you. Beck is no better than Culfumbler. :huh1:

Because Iv seen the guy this entire year and he wont just be a starting QB he'll be a good QB maybe evn Pro Bowl in 3 or 4 years. Druckenmiller? Are you kidding? 50/50 shot is selling him short. This guy starts for whoever drafts him week 10 in 2008 and unlike Beck he's not going to be sat if he has a bad game or two. You think he sucks, fair enough. If you're right he wont be drafted in the first. GMs generally dont spend first round picks on people they project to suck

ok, the point is we dont have enough talent on this 1-15 debacle of a franchise to stash anyone.

ps-we have a high 2nd round pick invested in Beck, hardly very little

Fair enough. I feel that if Beck turns into a good backup I'm happy with the pick. I realize alot of people would feel that is not what a 2nd rounder should bring in but when it comes to the QB position I'm more than happy getting a solid backup. With the way QBs drop like flies nowadays its very important to have someone who can step in and keep your team on a .500 level till the starter comes back. My philosophy when it comes to the draft is the first round must be a winner. After that you need to bring in another 2 or 3 players and it doesnt matter what round. I personally dont care if a 2nd rounder busts so long as a 3rd or 4th doesnt. Going into 5th round we should at least have 2 starters and one more from the last 3 with one backup added. Do that every year and you will have a terrific team in three years. Obviously easier said than done

I admit that Beck shook a little of the hesitation I have about him (even though I still see Rex GRossman when I watch him play). If we pass on Ryan becasue he is not a true franchise QB in Parcell's eyes, then fine. But Flacco, Brohm, or Brennan in the second should be a must. If those guys are taken, then maybe a Shaun Hill type. It would be absolutely stupid not to bring in a young QB to compete.

The real question is....who will be the veteran that starts the season??? Pennington? Green?? Yuck!

normally i would agree, but in this instance i believe it is imperative that beck suceeds, given the circumstances around his selection. i know the guys who took him arent going to be around, but if quinn becomes a stud while beck becomes a servicable backup, this franchise is set back several more years than we are even assuming...regardless of whther or not ginn becomes a good player for us.
