Once again we were running the ball well with D Thomas.

But on 3rd and 3 for a 1st down or in the RedZone with 2nd and 2 yards for a TD we are almost forced to force the ball to Brandon Marshall.

Keeping this baby "happy" cost us another game.

Maybe running Thomas at the goalline only has a 50% chance of making it. That is better then the 4% chance that B Marshall is going to beat D Revis.

In playing Madden I have a simple way of dealing of dealing with the Jets and Revis. I run the ball and make him and Crom become tacklers all game.

If you throw at Revis 10 times a game you are going to get picked off. But keeping our mental Diva Alpha WR happy is forcing us to do things we cannot do. And he is costing us games.

Marshall was not pass interfered. Watch the tape carefully, Marshall had lost his balance and was falling on his face. Revis slightly grabbed him to keep Marshall from also knocking him down. It looked like a poor block.

Brandon Marshall caused the Revis interception so did that help our defense? Each time we ran the ball down to the redzone and then starting throwing stupid passes and then had to kick another FG, did that help our defense?

And FUXK Marshall's 100 yards. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE FREAKING YARDS, YARDS DO NOT COUNT. TOUCHDOWNS COUNT.

I would have rather had D Thomas RUN for a 100 yards.

The whole point is that our offensive game plan was to FORCE THE FOOTBALL AGAINST THE BEST CORNER IN THE NFL.

Instead of running a normal offense against a team that has problems against the run, we throw 11-12 passes to a WR with mental problems being covered by the best corner in football.

How many other teams go into facing the Jets and say "the first thing we have to do is attack Revis 12-15 times". "Good call Bob, the only way to beat the Jets is to attack Revis over and over and over. And O yea, let's make sure that Revis KNOWS 10 days ahead of time what our game plan is".

3rd and 3 is not a passing down for us. 2nd and goal is not a passing down for us. 3rd and goal is not a passing down for us.

The Jets are having problems against the run but they still have 3 very good corners so we....run 25 times and throw 34. We ran the ball well but on almost every short yardage play we passed and missed.

Why did we throw to Marshall, a WR who has not being playing well, 12-14 times?

Because he was being a "monster" Diva and demanded it!

    We run the ball well
The Jets can't stop the run.
    We lost our starting QB
So our "game plan" is to throw to Brandon Marshall 40% of the time and on every big down.

We threw to the ball to Marshall in the endzone because because it was a personal thing for B Marshall.

We forced it over and over until Marshall tripped over his own feet and ALLOWED A 100 YARD INTERCEPTION FOR A TOUCHDOWN. B Marshall helped in scoring one touchdown, a touchdown for the jets.

What was the score of the game when that happened? It was 3-0 with us about to score again. Now you tell me when you think the game was lost for us.

The Jets were shooting themselves in the foot all night, we charged them up and got them excited.

    Here is our offensive gameplan.

We stop the Jets and make them go 3 and out.

at 12.01 in the 1st Qtr.

3-1-NYJ 41 (12:01) 75-N.Garner reported in as eligible. 8-M.Moore pass incomplete short left to 10-E.Gates. (3rd and 1 and we "attempt" a pass to Gates being covered by Revis?)

We stop the Jets again, 3 and out.

We drive to the Jet's 10 yard line.

    1-10-NYJ 10 (8:24) 33-D.Thomas left guard to NYJ 5 for 5 yards (97-C.Pace). (good, keep running)
    2-5-NYJ 5 (7:43) 8-M.Moore pass incomplete short left to 80-A.Fasano [55-J.Westerman](WTF?).
    3-5-NYJ 5 (7:36) 8-M.Moore pass incomplete short left to 19-B.Marshall (24-D.Revis) (OMG WTF?).
    4-5-NYJ 5 (7:33) 5-D.Carpenter 23 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-92-J.Denney, Holder-2-B.Fields.

Another wasted trip in the redzone. Our Defense is playing well, but our offense is afraid to run the ball. This is not new, within the 5 yard line this season, we have "attempted" a pass almost as twice as often as we have ran. (guess how many TDs we have passing in the redzone?)

BUT, OMG, the Jets muff a kick off return, we are going to really put it on them!

5-D.Carpenter kicks 58 yards from MIA 35 to NYJ 7. 50-G.McIntyre MUFFS catch, RECOVERED by MIA-53-A.Spitler at NYJ 18. 53-A.Spitler to NYJ 18 for no gain (50-G.McIntyre).
    1-10-NYJ 18 (7:23) 75-N.Garner reported in as eligible. 33-D.Thomas up the middle to NYJ 15 for 3 yards (36-J.Leonhard).
    2-7-NYJ 15 (6:52) 33-D.Thomas up the middle to NYJ 15 for no gain (52-D.Harris).
    3-7-NYJ 15 (6:11) 8-M.Moore pass short left intended for 19-B.Marshall INTERCEPTED by 24-D.Revis at NYJ 0. 24-D.Revis for 100 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

    2nd Quarter
    Miami Dolphins continues ...
    1-4-NYJ 4 (15:00) 33-D.Thomas left tackle to NYJ 1 for 3 yards (94-M.Dixon).
    2-1-NYJ 1 (14:16) 75-N.Garner reported in as eligible. 33-D.Thomas left tackle to NYJ 3 for -2 yards (93-K.Ellis; 95-M.Tevaseu).
    0-0- Timeout #2 by MIA at 13:38.
    3-3-NYJ 3 (13:38) 8-M.Moore pass incomplete short left to 19-B.Marshall.
    4-3-NYJ 3 (13:38) 5-D.Carpenter 21 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-92-J.Denney, Holder-2-B.Fields.
Another 3rd and 3 and we "attempt" a pass.

The score is now 6-7. Where is the problem again? Our defense?

Matt Moore was told to and forced 12 passes to Brandon Marshall and only one touchdown was scored, by D Revis.

Three times in a row on 3rd and Goal we "attempted" to throw to Brandon Marhsall. All of them failed and the defense scored a TD on one of them.

Albert Einstein said that his definition of Insanity was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Damn. If only our coaches were smart enough to take advice from gamers who play Madden we would probably be 5-0 right now.

I didn't read the whole thing -- no disrespect intended, stealing time at work -- but if we think Marshall forced them to throw him the ball, our anger is misplaced IMO. No matter what we like to say, the coach and the QB run the offense. Not the receiver.

Sometimes you just have to believe in your guy. Marshall was motivated and emotional this week. Outspoken. A guy with that kind of size and ability....I'll take my chances on that.

And as to the gameplan of targeting Marshall (e.g. throw at Revis) itself, it proved to be sound because Marshall got the better of Revis last night. To put it another way....

The most dominant cornerback of this era was struggling to matchup with our #1 WR.

Marshall didn't have trouble getting off the line.
Marshall didn't have trouble with Revis' physicality upfield.
Marshall didn't have trouble getting open.

Tell me how many receivers have done that the last few years. I'll wait. :)

What Marshall was having trouble with was quarterback play and staying in bounds (all I could do was shake my head ).

It wasn't a perfect game from Marshall, but it was a good game. And it could have been even better. I found myself imagining the kind of game Marshall would be having even with Tony Romo as his QB. A guy that could get the ball out on time and deliver it accurately. No disrespect to Matt Moore, he's a backup doing the best he can. But it is what it is. Basically, I think fans should recognize that, despite the ball-bathing ESPN was giving Revis, Marshall was largely having his way with him.

If Dolfans want to get rid of that sort of asset and blame the loss on it, fine. We can disagree. But I came away from last night's game with a pretty resounding silver lining: our guy proved capable of beating their unbeatable guy.

We're all looking to the future at this point. Revis will be in it. To have a guy that can push him to the limit, that's a mighty big deal. Add an Andrew Luck or Landry Jones to that equation....

No, I mean an analysis that pretends that only one stat matters. The fact is that BM has been a good, but not dominant #1 WR yet some want to look at just his TD number and pretend that he's been a bust.

Well, on Madden he didn't run out of bounds!!!:shifty:

To be honest, I'm not a big Marshall fan (not as bad as you). but my view last night was this.

    1. Marshall did leave plays on the field, he did tilt out of bounds, and even though the pass was behind him, he had two hands on it and should have caught it.

    2. He did get open often, and against Revis on some of the plays. He had a TD if Moore throws a good pass on the INT to Revis (who did bump him past the 5 yard mark on the play).

    3. Marshall did make some tough catches against the best CB in the league (although his big catch was against Crom.)

    4. On Marshall vs Revis? I call it a draw, which is kind of a win against Revis who does not let WR's do what Marshall did against him.

    5. Marshall had some drops last night, but so did Bess and Hartline.

Thing is there was every opportunity in the world to not make it a draw and he didn't take advantage again.
The long pass to the end zone where he raised his hand and was open. A big time WR has to get up and take that ball every time.
That looked like a Ted Ginn Special or a Chris Chambers play to me. Marshall has the strength but didn't use it.
He just seems to choke all the time.

Fair assessment, but the highlighted portion is key to me. In the other BM thread, I posted a video of Marshall making some incredibly spectacular off balanced catches.

If he can make those, surely a ball that's slightly behind him he can easily catch, can he not?

And his dropping TD passes in the endzone is nothing new this season. He's dropped 5 to date I believe.

That's where all the ire is being directed at Marshall.

Again, I'm not a big Marshall fan, but if you watch that play, revis has him all tied up so he can't jump up for the ball. revis has an arm on his side and pretty much holds him down.

Would I like to see Marshall go up and get that, heck yeah, but Revis also had something to do with him not being able to go up and get it.

It was a good battle, like I said its a draw. If Marshall catches the TD pass that was slightly behind him, than I call it a Marshall win.

I don't like the Marshall trade, and I think he his killed us in big spots. But last night the only real problem I had was when he ran out of bounds.

Bess and hartline dropped easier passes than Marshall did last night.

In my opinion it is a little bit of both sides. I think Marshall made Revis look mediocre yesterday. He always had his body firmly in front of Revis on all passes except for the one either in the 3rd or 4th where Marshall was forced to dive for it but was incomplete. Im not making excuses for Marshall because even though he had the upper hand on Revis he didnt use it to his advantage to finish the play and catch the ball. He needs to start going to the ball instead of it coming to him. If he actually took 1 step towards the ball, he would have 3 touchdowns and 200 yards easily. Every ball that was dropped either was a little off thrown or Revis got a finger on it, AND THATS ON MARSHALL for most of them. (The slightly offthrown balls were catchable for the #1 he is supposed to be. )

2 Highlights were his first catch when he plowed Revis' face into the ground, and when he ran out of bounds for no reason. Please someone needs to make little clips out of them so I can use them hahahaah.

Did you see the 49er coach blast Ginn this weekend? he caught a pass on second and long and ran out of bounds a yard short of the first down instead of heading up field and getting hit, but getting the 1st down. He came off the field and the coach was all over him. On 3rd and 1 the 49ers didn't make it and had to punt.

    1) he dropped a TD
    2) his poor route allowed an int to go for 7..

    -14

    3) oh, that's right, wide open down the field, makes the catch...then runs out of bounds...that was a clear path to the EZ..

    -21

I know folks thought that was pi, the problem was Marshal stumbled into Revis, he never got his feet under him

brilliant post..I was thinking the same thing.

When I play Madden, at All-Pro Level you can hit the Tight End on the seam if he is fast enough, and your QB has a strong arm.

SO I think what we should have done is sign Jamarcus Russell, and then run "Bears X Slant" where it has the Tight End running the seam...but what we do, is play Reggie Bush at Tight End, since he has a 92 in speed and he has the best hands of all our backs.

Had we run that play all game, we would have won 149-17.

 An example of how love is blind. Marshall was out of position b/c he stumbled after plowing into Revis. Then Revis grabbed on to Marshall's jersey, but Marshall initiated the contract. Reality is Marshall took himself out of that route. He was never going to be open. ISO on Marshall shows clearly he lost his balance running himself out of the route. My guess is it was a timing route in which Marshall should have cut the route off and used his frame to shield off Revis at the goal line right where Revis was standing. Not that shielding Revis would have worked since BM was not able to do that on another pass to him in the end zone. And he showed he can't go up and get the ball either allowing Cromartie to go over the top of him to knock it away.

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d82339818/WK-6-Can-t-Miss-Play-Revis-takes-it-the-distance

    W
hat last nights game showed was what many of us on the board have been saying all along about Marshall being a QB killer this year, along with Bess and Gates. Henne wasn't the problem in the first 4 games and Moore wasn't the problem last night. BM's poor play has made our QBs look bad and killed their QB rating.

Truth is I like(d) Marshall heading into to this year (and I didn't much like Henne) but I am willing to keep an open mind and allow the "reality" of what occurs on the field to direct my criticism or applause. That is the problem with falling in love with a player...love is blind and leads to shifting criticism to players it doesn't belong on.

I can recall 10 plays this year in which Marshall has either dropped the ball outright or failed to establish position in the end zone or run out of bounds (WTF was that)...Fitzgerald, Johnson's or a dozen other WR would have a minimum of 8 TD catches given the same opportunities Marshall has had this year.

Throwing to BM in the red zone clearly turns it into the DEAD ZONE!

Unless of course, I am in love with BM and think it is always the QB's fault. Somehow I am sure Luck will be able to "catch" the ball for BM that none of the other QBs have been able to do.

I need to watch the replay. Live, it looked to me that Marshall was running an out with Moore throwing to a spot. After getting tied up with Revis, the out was blocked and he adjusted to the post. I don't remember if Moore was under pressure, likely the case, or, if he could have waited another split second to adjust as well.

Aside from that, Marshall is a VG WR but, so far has not been an elite on in Miami. Dropping 5 TD's in 5 games is not acceptable, regardless of the throws not being perfect. IF he catches 3 of the 5, I'm sure everyone is thinking differently.

If Luck threw a bad pass, Luck would get the blame for the bad pass. If the ball could have been caught but was dropped, Marshall would get credit for the drop.

I'm not sure why its so difficult to understand that more than one person can fail to do their job.

That was on an end-around. It genuinely looked like a brain fart to me live, because he'd also ran one the previous drive -- picking up 12 yards -- where he cut back inside and split two tacklers.

Fortunately the defense forced a 3-and-out. And Ginn redeemed himself on the ensuing punt, taking it back 40 yards to help setup the winning score.

This is off topic, I know, but if you guys get a chance to catch the Niners....I'm genuinely impressed with the evolution of Ted Ginn. No longer is he tentative returning kicks or with the ball in his hands. The guy goes full speed and isn't afraid of contact. He'll always get knocked around a bit due to his stature. But he's simply a tougher player now.

The only thing I can attribute it to is.....Jim Harbaugh.

In Miami, Clyde Gates seems to have taken on Ginn's former personality on returns.

I think it should be a rule that if you are a Dolphins player, the back of your jersey should say "Scapegoat". True story.

it is really good this year.

you go undefeated vs. ALL-Madden with a non-playoff team, you are an ELITE madden player.

Spot on. I have watched a couple of games the niners have played and mentioned this to my wife last Sunday. He is a different player today and is a real asset to that team.
