I’ll go ahead and say it... Bit disappointed by free agency urgency so far

I’m gonna come right out and say that I’m disappointed the the dolphins free agency acquisitions so far. I feel that we over performed last year and with the bills being coming dominant the New England Patriots stocking up and the Jets with a new head coach and focusing on a defense game plan I felt the Dolphins needed to instantly grab a top and wide receiver a top end running back Defensive end inside linebacker offense lineman Back up quarterback in free agency.

Of course we’re probably not gonna get all of those in free agency we can fill those in with the draft But so far what I’ve seen outside one or two positions is that we’ve got stop gaps for one year we still have an address number one wide receiver And while I love Parker he isn’t going to be what we all expected he’s just not gonna stay healthy

I think we need to grab a stud running back in unless we draft one with one of our first two pics I’m not sure we’re going to fill that void either we did get a good inside linebacker but we’re still looking for an edge rusher I think we could use some additional help a guard and they were plenty available

I just kind of feel that the front office is comfortable with what we have going into year too and I don’t think that’s the case I think we will take a step back this year and we probably will be third in the division going into year three.

Not running around with my hair on fire yet just not really happy with how we have attacked free agency so far

I agree that we shouldn’t overpay but we can’t let our division rivals stockade talent while we grab average level talent and hope for miracles

The 33 million was never going to get us as far as people thought.
    Brissett(5), Brown(2?), Biegel(.9), Carter(2.7).
    That is 10.5M gone.
Another 13M needed to sign the draft class.
Down to only 10-12M left already !

Brissett and Biegel are just solid signings for need/value/quality.
The Carter and Brown signings don’t exactly fit my taste, but I wouldn’t call them wasteful.

Truth is there was only money for one big ticket free agent. And we are still likely to achieve that with one of the rumoured guys like Galloday, Samuel, Andrews, Clowney etc.

If management can somehow restructure a couple guys and maybe cut a couple guys (Wilson, Grant, Fejedelem, McCain are possibilities ) we might be able to get a 2nd starter.

We do have to be realistic

Yep. Unless some guys get restructured there's not much we can do.
Plus, if Miami are going to try for Watson they're going to need room for him too. It seems less and less likely to me, but I'm not great with cap mathematics 201.

The other possibility is that the Dolphins are waiting for people to start getting cut and then offer lower deals. There might be some bargains coming.

Surprised some of those guys are still on the roster, to be honest.

They broke the bank last season. There's still guys out there that can be difference makers on this team. Let's relax a little bit.

Because with all these splash signings by other teams, a lot of names will become available today and there won't be roster spots at the salary they're expecting. The next few days will be absolutely packed with value signings and that's what this team is all about.

In other words, we're being smart. It's a new strategy in Miami and it's probably why fans are freaking out, but we're in a very good place right now and spending money wisely. This is what you're supposed to do in free agency...fill exact roles with the right people at the right price. There is zero reason to overspend.

Ironically we've become the Patriots in free agency and the Patriots have become us.

Outside of the Bucs getting Brady in FA, winning FA rarely results in winning playoff games.

To others points, I’m ok not making the big splashes and finding value options.

I really like our pick ups so far and I am interested in the finished product on the field + am I the only one who can‘t wait for the draft to come? This feels like christmas to me, get me the presents!

Edit: Oh and I wouldn‘t mind trading my biggest present #3 so I get even more presents…

Was Fitzpatrick the leading rusher last year as well? Maybe we shouldn't be quoting $tu's Piggybank as a legit source, LOL!

I'm personally not too concerned over adding big name free agents and making a big splash. We have a lot of young talent already on this roster. We addressed the backup QB situation quite impressively with Brissett in my opinion. The offensive line in my opinion will always be a priority. If we should be spending anywhere, it should be there. I would like to see us keep that as deep as possible.
We do have the draft coming up and I think this team is really just wanting to build internally or organically and you can't fault them for doing so. Everything....And I mean literally everything comes down to Tua and if he can develop into a franchise quarterback. If he can't, then spending like crazy in free agency means absolutely nothing, because we aren't winning anything unless we have a franchise quarterback under center.
As much as I love Aaron Jones, I feel like we dodged a bullet not signing him. The same goes for Golladay and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Let them be someone else's problem.
In regards to our receiving core, I like Preston Williams, Parker, Grant, Perry, and Bowden. I think we're going to draft either Chase or Smith with our first pick as well.
Our running back position isn't exactly bad either in my opinion. Myles Gaskin is very capable and the one thing with this team that I learned last year was that it doesn't matter who is running the football for us as long as the line is doing their job and opening up lanes. With that said, I would be over the moon if we ended up with Harris or Etienne in the draft.

Now that we don't have a Center, I would feel better to pick one up. Even if we draft someone, and hope he "the guy" we need depth.

It's pretty late in the game to find good starters.

I like it personally. Too many times in the past few decades this team has "won the off-season" and it never panned out in reality. I'm all for the more even-keeled, level-headed, pragmatic approach to building the roster for the future...especially with the salary cap crashing down like it has this year. The % of big, flashy signings that don't end up playing to their previous ceiling or potential is pretty high, from what I've seen. The Philly Super-Team from several years back is the biggest, glowing example of this strategy failing miserably.

Fill some back-up roles, pick-up some developmental guys, draft strong, and roll-on. If the days of mortgaging the future for a big-time free-agent are over, color me happy.

Lemme talk you off the ledge.

First and foremost, as far as WRs go, we got the second best deal of all WR deals. JuJu took a hometown discount, and beat us, but other than that, we did remarkable. I want you to save this post, because I think 365 days from now, it is likely that most, if not all, of the teams that signed a big WR deal will seriously wish that they had not made that deal.

    Nelson Agholor - 2 yrs/$26 mil
    Corey Davis - 3 yrs/$37.5 mil
    Kenny Golladay - 4 yrs/$72 mil

Dude, those contracts are TERRIBLE. Agholor and Davis are proven commodities that are AT BEST #2 WRs. Golladay is good, but he isn't anywhere in the ballpark of Mike Evans or Julio Jones.

I think that we got the WR that has more upside than Davis and Agholor who is now playing for us for less than those guys on a contract year. He is exactly the guy that Tua needs. The guy has had problems staying healthy in the past, so if he balls out early, there is a good chance we could offer him a long term deal at a bit of a discount in order to give him financial security. Finally, and most importantly, if he proves to be a run-of-the-mill #2 WR, he will be gone next year - no cap hit, no dead money, buh-bye.

Finally, don't worry about RB. Honestly, it is a disposable position. Rookies can easily enter the league as a top player at their position without problems. Seriously, there are a lot of big names out there that are bigger names but not really any better than Gaskin.

I really think that the Texans pick in the second round is earmarked for a RB. I promise you that at LEAST one of these guys will be there: Harris, Etienne, or Williams. I could also see us jumping back into the first round to snag Harris because he would be such a perfect fit.

Okay, finally, I am gonna offer you some shmuck insurance. Suppose, I am wrong. All of those guys are gone. Now what are we gonna do?

Here is a list of currently available free agents:

    James Conner
    Todd Gurley
    Frank Gore
    Adrian Peterson
    Damien Williams
    Duke Johnson
    James White
    Leonard Fournette
    Le'Veon Bell
    Duke Johnson

Fournette is the only one of those guys that will get paid. Everyone else could be had on the cheap. I honestly don't think that any of those names are significantly worse than the likes of Marlon Mack, Phillip Lindsey, Jamal Williams, and Mark Ingram.

    No need to worry. Yet.
