04/07/08 - The 6-foot-4, 231-pounder has all the physical tools. His hands have been measured at 10½ inches. No other quarterback at this year's NFL combine measured even 10 inches. He showed off his howitzer-like right arm last week in practice on a perfectly thrown 45-yarder to JaJuan Spillman. Cantwell, a Paducah Tilghman High School product, is 3-1 as a starter at U of L. He has passed for 1,419 yards and 10 touchdowns with seven interceptions in 18 games. If anything, Cantwell's arm might be a little too strong at times. "He likes to rifle that thing as hard as he can," Jeff Brohm said. "And even though it feels good to him, sometimes receivers want a little more touch on those short passing routes and some of the long throws. But he realizes that, and he's working on it." Cantwell isn't quite used to being the center of attention or the center of an offense. He said it hasn't sunk in yet that he will be the starting quarterback this season. "It will probably hit me when we suit up against Kentucky," he said. "Right now, it's just another day of practice." U of L fans won't be the only ones keenly monitoring his progress this fall. Despite his limited collegiate experience, Cantwell is projected by some NFL experts as the top quarterback available in next year's draft. At Louisville's Pro Day last month, Cantwell was surprised at how interested the scouts appeared in him, with many calling him by his first name. But the former walk-on doesn't have a hard time staying humble. "I'm here to play college football right now, and a lot of people said I couldn't even do this," he said. "I'm really focused on playing now, and whatever happens after that is great." - Brian Bennett, Louisville Courier-Journal

Right now everyone says there will be no QBs worth taking in next year's draft. But that's just because nobody is paying any attention to those QBs right now. There will be at least 4 or 5 QBs that are being talked about as much or more as this year's QB class and Hunter Cantwell will be one of them.
