How would you feel with a Trevor Lawrence NY Jet QB

Really think at this point of the season the jets are in a spiral due to gase and his inability to be a leader men follow.

that said I'm thinking the jets are going to fall into the trevor lawrence qb zone and i do bit want them getting him in the afc east. I mean if they did i would say that we would have the one hell of a difficult division when it comes to qb play.

I really like trevor but dont want him anywhere near us in the division.

    Just some Saturday talking points

Well Lawrence has made a few VERY unadvisable throws...throws that are going to BURN him in the NFL. The Jets are such a dysfunctional organization that if he were to fall into their lap, they are still going to suck. If Lawrence is able to go to a team that just needs a QB as the final piece of their team, he's going to be DANGEROUS

Lawrence has a ton of talent, but he's not the first highly touted college QB, and there have been so many highly sought after college QB's that ended up no better than average in the NFL, or even busted. So I wouldn't worry about him going to the Jets. The odds are still in favor of Lawrence NOT being a great NFL QB.

Also worth noting that the Giants and Falcons are also 0-5, so Jets have some competition for that #1 pick.

I think it is just as important who the GM/Coach is when they draft him.

So here is my take on Lawrence.

He has all the skills you look for in an NFL prospect. He can do it all, at least to a generally acceptable level. If I had one critique to lay on him it would be this:

The offense Clemson runs is very QB friendly. It's only against top teams that he really gets challenged to make NFL throws, and he is prone to a few bad decisions in situations.

Just like any player there is no guarantee he will succeed and unless the Jets can improve the rest of their roster he wont fulfill his potential anyway.

To answer the question directly, I live in Clemson-country and I've watched Lawrence his entire college career. I would easily call him the best prospect since Andrew Luck and I would have taken him over Burrow or Tua. The kid just has all the intangibles; he's smart, he plays fast and he makes great reads. Good arm strength, good placement, great legs and solid movement in the pocket. Plus, he led his team to a national championship as a freshman and decided to stay for two more seasons, despite probably being #1 overall in the draft the past two years. When plays break down he doesn't panic either, the kid just keeps grinding and finding a way to make the big play.

So how would I feel if he was a Jet? I would be absolutely devastated since he's clearly a guy you can build a team around.

There's only one thing left to say- Go JETS! After we embarrass them this week and Gase possibly gets fired, we really need to be rooting for them for the rest of the season. We should be doing that anyway since we have the Texans pick- we want all the sucky teams not named Houston to suck just a little bit less down the stretch. But we especially want to see the Jets win some games in November and December...I wouldn't cry if they went 8-0 in that stretch. Give them a playoff berth for all I care....just don't give them my boy Trevor!

Jets have a pretty hard schedule. They play the Bills (4-1), Chiefs (4-1), Patriots (2-2), Raiders (3-2), Seahawks (5-0), Rams (4-1) and Browns (4-1). Only easy team left is Chargers (1-4) based on current records. Even Miami will likely be heavily favored against them the 2nd time around (btw.. that means we can't root for the Jets for ALL remaining games).
    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/2020.htm

Will be interesting to see whether the Giants and/or Falcons can keep up, though strength of schedule would favor those teams (most likely) if there is a tie at the end.

I'm willing to bet that Trevor is losing sleep at night worried about being drafted by the Jest and having to face Tua twice a season or worse, having to face a rejuvenated Ryan Fitzpatrick twice a season. The Jest could have a young Peyton Manning and they would still be the Jest.

Honestly, unless we're playoff bound towards the end of the season, I'd almost prefer the Jets to beat us in the 2nd game if they're at the 1-3 win mark at that point & it could actually make a difference in that #1 overall pick. I agree with you though, I feel like they actually have a shot at 0-16 and one win against us wouldn't help enough.

For those saying Lawrence makes bad throws sometimes, today was his first interception in 367 attempts. He rarely makes mistakes.
I think we should bundle both of our first round picks and tua and trade for the number one pick and get Trevor Lawrence. Flame away

Unrealistic. If Lawrence is that hyped no one will trade that pick away. So whether Tua works out or not, Lawrence is not a realistic option for us. Just have to hope the Jets don't take him.

For the Dolphins it's either Tua or wait another cycle.

You don't think a team would take two pretty high first round picks and tua for the number one overall pick? I would think that would be tempting

Nope. Colts wouldn't have traded away Luck for anything in 2012. In fact, they refused any and all offers for Luck in 2018 (after Luck's injury), which I think in retrospect was a mistake, but no there's never been a QB that's this highly hyped I know of where the team with the #1 pick traded away that pick. Closest was 2012 with RG3, but Colts didn't budge.

Like it or not, Tua will be our next quarterback no matter what. What I find interesting though is that we could end up with the #1 pick from Houston and then things get really interesting.

I know it's a huge longshot at this point but what do you do in that situation? Draft Lawrence and develop two potentially elite QB's...possibly to trade one off a year or two down the road? That sort of makes sense because you allow Tua an extra year to work thru rehabbing as Lawrence's backup (or vice versa, both routes are appealing). It's an absolutely insane notion but at the same time, I don't think it's a wasted pick. You draft the BPA and that's going to be Lawrence.

Or do you make the lion's share trade for #1 overall? Even though it would be talked about for the next decade if Tua doesn't work out, I think you trade that pick with someone in the top 5 and pick up 4-6 starters from it. Why wouldn't you let teams bid against each other for the next Andrew Luck? It's a dream scenario for any GM because you get to be completely unrealistic...and still end up with your asking price.

There's been two occurrences that I know of where teams traded the much-hyped QB after the draft (or during). Eli Manning and John Elway.

Eli wasn't anywhere as hyped. Elway yes. But in both cases the QB refused to play for the team. It wasn't the team that said they'd accept a ton of draft picks to give away the #1 pick. Same with Ryan Leaf even if he was ultimately drafted 2nd.

So yes if you can get Lawrence to simply refuse to play for the team with the #1 pick and demand a trade to Miami then yes we have a shot. But there's no evidence of that with Lawrence. So unless the QB simply refuses to play for the team with the #1 pick, then no there's never been a case with such a highly hyped QB where that team traded the pick away.

This is precisely why we need to see Tua for 8 games or so minimum this year. Can't be spending high picks drafting a new QB unless you're fairly certain the one you drafted isn't going to work out.

Yeah and the team is obviously highly unlikely after 2021 to be able to jockey around in the first round with the kind of draft pick ammo it has at present. There are QBs other than Lawrence -- Justin Fields and Trey Lance -- who would be under consideration in trade-up scenarios at the top of the first round. So you have to see some Tua this year to know whether passing on those QBs is prudent.

First of all, Eli was very hyped coming out of college. Second, if I was Lawrence, I would let it be known via cut-outs and third parties that gave me plausible deniability that I did not want to play for the NY Jets.

Well if the Jets draft Lawrence I can only hope they keep Adam Gase on as HC. It will be almost impossible for him to develop into a good NFL QB under Gase

Mahomes was the best prospect since Luck imo..not Lawrence.

I disagree..Nothing changes even if he doesn’t play..

The team this year is trying to win and make a run at the playoffs.. I’m gonna enjoy it, I’m not gonna whine like a lot of dolphins fans are doing because Tua is on the bench learning from a very smart great leader who happens to be playing at a high level and who happened to earn the starting job this year based on his play last year..

This is the point I was making earlier. If Lawrence is drafted by the Jets, they’re still the Jets! Sure, they might have a flash if brilliance, maybe even make a deep playoff run one season but in typical big apple style, that apple would rot to the core and the Jets would still be mediocre.

Lawrence has been great because, well let’s be honest Clemson is a great program and he has great coaches and great talent surrounding him. If Lawrence is on his way to the Big Apple, does anyone truly believe that organization is just as great as the one he’s currently at?

I'd MUCH rather see him on the Giants or Falcons than the Jests, that's for sure.

However, if they don't end up at #1 overall, they likely will be taking either Fields or Lance, so they will get a QB regardless. Hard to see them winning enough to put them beyond even those guys (who are solid in their own rights). Hopefully they aren't smart enough to hire Bienemy and go for some lame retread. Maybe Jeff Fisher wants to get back in the game.

It's likely he's going to end up in NY. They're not winning a game anytime soon, and in due time they'll be in full on tank mode. Likely if we beat them today

I wouldn't anguish over a Trevor Lawrence led Jest team any more than I anguish over facing a Joe Burrow led Bungles team. The "can't miss" generational talent at the college level rarely carries over unscathed to the NFL.

Well here's my two cents worth. Unless the Johnson family fires Adam Gase and if GM Joe Douglas doesn't take a page out of Miami's playbook and guts their roster, I don't think you need to worry about Trevor Lawrence becoming a Jet. Remember, they JUST drafted Sam Darnold 2 years ago and the kid if STILL only 23. I think it more likely you'll see Trevor Lawrence in a Jaguars uniform.
