just a question because im a commish and we are going to have keepers at the end of the season. So far the only rule I had set was that you cant keep players that were drafted in the first 3 rounds.
keep 2 players from any round, you lose the equivalent pick in the next draft I believe. Cant keep players you pick up off waivers.
We just did away with the keeper rule, but we've had it for the past 9 yrs. What we did was you could keep 4 players that were not in the top 20 in fantasy pts for the yr. Qb's top 15. But it got to where so many good players were getting injured and whatnot..it ruins the fun of drafts, imo.
in my money league we do it like this... every team has to keep 1 keeper... then you can keep a 2nd keeper, but if you do you lose your first round pick in the upcoming draft... and you cant keep a player for more than 3 seasons... so for the most part, most people keep 2 players and that first round is generally about 3-5 players (in a 12 team league)... this is our 3rd season in this league so next years draft will have a lot of good players who cant be kept anymore, so that'll be interesting....
here is what my Idea is tell me what you think. each team has 5 points to do what they want with players drafted after the 3rd round. 4-7 round players cost 4 pts 7-11 cost 2 pts then the rest and free agent pick ups cost 1 pt with you only being able to keep 3. Im sure other leagues may have done this before.
so keeping 3 is the max, but some players may only keep 1 if they keep a guy drafted in rounds 4-7 and have no one worth keeping from 11 on and free agents... so how does the draft work if 1/3rd the league keeps 1 guy, the other third keeps 2, and the last 3rd keeps 3?
I came up with a 4 year cycle. Year one: Redraft Year two: 1 Keeper Year three: 2 Keepers Year four: 3 Keepers Year 5 will revert back to year one of the cycle. Also, no one may keep players taken in the first 3 rounds of the previous years draft. This rewards teams that drafted well in the later rounds. For example, Adrian Peterson was awarded to one of the teams in my league. That is a huge advantage. Luckily he had the last pick in the draft though.
