Sorry Getting oriented here. I saw in some thread regarding Tua and the offence and the success... That some posters here are vacating because it is easier to not post than to admit they were wrong and that this offence is truly special? When did ego and pride get to be part of this? Either you love this team, either you want them to win or not! Instead of staying away... come back and celebrate.... Who cares who was right or wrong in arguments from years gone by. This is the greatest offence since the Early Days of Dan Marino!!!!!!! We have waited almost 40 years for this. Come back and enjoy it. Okay I will get off of the soapbox now.
Ha! Welcome. As you get oriented you'll see the issue isn't with the "offense". They're all willing to admit the offense is great. The issue is specifically with Tua. A good number still hold the view that Tua is "at most a slightly average QB" who is putting up great stats because of McDaniel, Hill, Waddle, etc. In other words, the great offense is due primarily to the great surrounding cast, not Tua. Why? Because that was their original view of Tua and they can't stand being wrong about it. It's a ridiculous view of course. It's extremely difficult for even great QBs with great surrounding casts to come in #1 in key offensive stats (worth noting Marino came in #1 in passer rating only once in his career), and Tua might do it twice in a row. I pointed this out before, but in the SB era the only QBs who came in #1 in passer rating in two consecutive years are: Ken Anderson, Roger Staubach, Steve Young, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers. If Tua manages to do that this year, there's no doubt anymore he's an elite QB. But even if he does that you'll still see people claim he's just an average QB. It's pathetic really. Oh, and they really come out of the woodwork posting with glee once he has a bad game. You might get lucky and see that if Tua plays bad against Philly, though I doubt he will. Might have to wait a lot longer lol.
Brad Thanks for posting. It is sad to cheer for the most important player on our team to fail. Incredibly sad. I want those people to take a piece of paper and a box of croyolas... Draw a picture of themselves and show us where Tua hurt them specificially.
I want more than anything for Tua to stay healthy and lead this team to a SB win. I'm 57 years old and the Fins haven't been to a SB since I was 18. They haven't won one since I was seven. I just want another SB win before I die.
I completely understand... I was a kid when Marino was drafted... I am just shy of 50 now. I do not really remember the record breaking season much... So 40 years have passed.... And we have sucked... I have stayed loyal to my team and fellow fans. I love being a Dolphin fan.... Would not trade it for anything. That being said it would be nice to win a superbowl before I die.... Tue is easily the greatest QB since Marino... Why would people choose to hate that because of a stupid argument or their stupid pride. This does not make any sense. It is like people are clowning themselves.
We only live so long. There are only so many chances to win a Superbowl (Especially when your team is run as poorly as the Dolphins for 30+years) Get over it guys. Happiness is a choice. Get back on the bandwagon Celebrate with us. You will be sorry if you do not.
Their perception of a bad game is completely out of whack as well. We saw that after the Giants game, he still posted a 100 passer rating and yet people said he played poorly. He has 2 games of 92 rating (Buffalo and New England) and 4 games 100 or above. If you look at the other top rated QB's this season... Josh Allen has posted passer ratings of 62, 79 and 86 this season. His game against the Dolphins (perfect 158.3) really helps him. Goff has had games 85 and 86. Herbert only has 5 games yet has had games of 72 and 84 in them. Mahomes had games of 63 and 75. Purdy was really the only other QB who hadn't had a really poor game until this last weekend. Feel free to say Tua played poorly if he posts a rating in the mid 80's or below but when his worse games are still league average you are really nit picking if you think that is poor.
Dead serious here. When I was a little Kid Marino was not only the best QB in football... He was by far and away the best player in football... He was changing the league all by himself. I remember that feeling after he lost in the Superbowl... There would be other chances... other games... Get them next year. They never came and it never happened. So I am telling all of you.... If this team with this offence... gets to the playoffs... Anything can happen. And we all need to be on board to enjoy it. Might be the last chance we have.
An important element to add to this is many of the Tua bashers are just trolls stirring the pot. They come here spewing their nonsense while actually being fans of a different team altogether. They think they're fooling someone.
The constant generalizing of posters who weren't sold on Tua being the answer as being troll fans of other teams is nauseating. It might be true for some, but it is definitely not the majority of the posters being referred to. It makes it hard to enjoy anything when no matter what you post, certain posters follow you around like a list puppy trying to dredge up old arguments.
In for a penny, in for a pound. If somebody is unable to admit that Tua's playing at a truly elite level right now, then their credibility on other matters can be disregarded. If somebody offered a seemingly cogent review of a new movie before explaining that their favorite film of all times was Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, nobody would have a problem ignoring their opinion about the first film. Or any movies beyond that, because clearly, they're watching for something other than quality. It's the same with Tua. You can have your opinions on his attributes and few should argue about your subjective views. Weak arm? That's your opinion. Too small? Possibly. I guess. Spends too much time on the trainers' table? I actually agree. Who wouldn't want a 6'5" monster with a rocket arm that never misses games? Especially if he's at the top right of most advanced metrics graphs. But if you cannot admit that, in spite of all of your biases and subjective nitpicking, Tua's playing at a high level, then I'll listen to your opinion and then ask you to kindly go back to the kids' table and eat your food. They might be interested in what you have to say over there. Seriously, if you're so freaking entrenched about your credibility, simply say "I still think he's too small, his arm is weak, and he's benefitting from a lot of good things in place around him, but to his credit, he's playing his *ss off" and be done with it. At this point, it's embarrassing.
Before the season began I felt like this is our year. Tua, McDaniel, Wilkins, and Tyreek have all alluded more than once about what the end goal is this season. Everyone in that locker room knows that they have a very good chance to cash in this season and win it all. And that is comforting to me that for the first time in nearly 30 years we are actually strong contenders. I believe in this team, GM, and coaches. I'm on this train until the end.
I am not going to bring one thread over into another to try to make someone back down.... But I see what you mean with credibility. For me it would come down to..... If you show us that you love arguing more than you love this team.... If your love to troll is stronger than your desire for the Dolphins to be successful... Then you should probably post somewhere else. (And we should all probably ignore them)
The window is small and the time is now for this team. There are several bad contracts... and Several key pieces that need new contracts... So beyond next season there will be major changes coming to the team. So we are in "Win now" mode.... all in.
The truth hurts I see. If my post didn't hit home with you, you wouldn't have cared what I said. But, you felt the need to reply and defend yourself. Doesn't take a genius to realize why. You entered this thread, replied to my post, and I'm the one following you around. ???
I've always said Tua is a good quarterback and would not be a complete bust since the day we drafted him. I just don't think he is truly great and is somewhat physically limited, and is a high injury risk. His stats have been amazing this year and that's great, but a huge part of that is he is now playing with a HOF reciever and a pléthora of weapons on offense, along with a great offensive mind in McDaniel who has implemented a tailor made system for him. I'm happy we are being successful now, but as I've said before while the team is in win now Mode, I am in show me Mode. Until we actually win at least a playoff game I am not going to celebrate. We've been let down too many times before to be showboating and making plans for the supebowl only six games into the season. We have not faced any real adversity or good teams yet, and the only winning team we faced stomped us. We look like world beaters and Tua is putting up elite stats against bad teams, big deal. Purdy also looked like an elite QB until he faced a top defense then he looked pedestrian. Context matters, sttength of competition matters, getting it done in the tough games and situations and going deep in the playoffs matters. I will celebrate when we get those things done, not before.
Limited? see this is where I think we need to settle this Tua can make all of the throws... Someone might be bigger, faster, or have a better arm. But if a QB can come in and make all of the throws and lead the league in almost every passing statistic.... They are NOT limited. Of course Rodgers has a better arm Of Course Jackson is a better runner Of Course Herbert is taller and more durable. And..... Of Course Tua is hands down the MVP of the NFL right now.
Two separate issues: 1. Would you ever be willing to acknowledge Tua is elite if he (for example) comes in #1 in passer rating 2 years in a row, knowing that the only others to do that in the SB era were Anderson, Staubach, Young, Manning and Rodgers? That is, is your mind set on Tua being at most "good" but not "elite" no matter the production? So far, and in this very post too, it seems you are, which is the crux of the issue. It's too unlikely to have that kind of high level production with a merely "good" QB if done consistently. This view of yours isn't defensible. 2. Celebrating only if we win a playoff game is fully understandable. Not criticizing that. I will however take you up on the more important issue: acknowledging Grier is a very good GM — you've attacked him more than Tua! — if we do that. That's the bar you set in a previous post and I'll hold you to it if we do that.
nah thats too easy, anyone can admit that he's playing at a high level. That doesnt fix whats been said all good, im sure those people have moved on to another platform.. cowards.
See? It's easy to get drawn in and find yourself in the middle of the debate. LOL. Even though it's not really a debate because Tua's numbers speak for themselves and it's more hatred than caution on their end.
I imagine they're hiding somewhere like the diminishing number of humans in the Invasion Of The Body Snatchers movies. They're afraid to sleep or associate with assimilated fans because they feel the... pull to join us. But God forbid they should sell their souls and accept what's happening when their intransigence is so vital to their personality. Their humanity is threatened if they agree that what they see is real so they disappear as it becomes more clear that they were wrong. Okay, that's a little hyperbolic, but dang, who can't be happy that he's the fulcrum for a historic level of offensive success? We waited 20+ years for this. We suffered through decades of mediocre play, every season hoping we'd see somebody step up. We tanked for this. Might as well enjoy the ride instead of sitting in the basement hoping that somehow we win while he plays poorly. Unless they don't actually care about winning. Hmm... Maybe I wasn't being hyperbolic after all.
