In the midst of all that rehtoric I do think he has a point with this. If there are currently 9 year olds that start playing the wii because its cheap and their parents want to get it for them (which I would probably do if I had kids) then eventually they will get a little older and graduate to FPS and more action stuff most likely. If you want to look at it that way then the wii is actually creating future customers for either Sony or Microsoft.... Unless the next Nintendo console tries to compete in the High Def high processor power field that Sony and Microsoft are fighting over now.
I have to laugh when I hear this type of opinion; FPS is "adult" and "hardcore", and you have to "graduate" to those types of games. I've been playing games for well over 25 years, and because I loathe FPS, I guess I haven't "graduated" yet. What a joke. It's pitiful to me that the masses here in the US think that way. There is a reason why the 360 is a colossal flop in Japan. The Japanese know what good games are, and they aren't FPS, or trash from Rockstar games. If crap is "adult", then get me a diaper...
There are plenty of crap games that are FPS and plenty that aren't. One does not preclude the other. And just because you don't like GTA does not make it crap. You can dislike something and still recognize that it is functionaly a good game.
Just referencing the fact that the Japanese share my disdain for FPS and crappy American games in general. I own a 360, and I can say it's hands down my least favorite system I've ever had (close 2nd is the original XBox). I haven't touched it in months. The only reason why I keep it around is because I never sell any of the systems I buy (I collect them).
Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery are coming out soon for the 360 (both rpgs) will surely be enjoyable games.
i feel the same about the wii honestly, the 360 and ps3, imo are miles ahead. if only i was as good at recognizing good games like the japanese, perhaps my wii would get more use ...
Wasn't trying to be offensive man, and I agree that there are plenty of FPS that are crap.... But regardless of what you or I think or like to play the majority of American gamers in the 16-30 something group play FPS's and like High Def which means wii like consoles are not going to do it for them once they hit that age group. My point was about marketing and current gaming trends....... Though who knows, maybe the wii generation of gamers will be different.
same. I gave my wii to my cousin cause i never used it. Only games that were imo any good were the minigame....games(got boring quickly) , super mario galaxy and SSB Brawl. It just all seemed very gimmicky and i could never get into it. As for the Japanese know that American games are crap its 2 completely different markets with 2 completely different likes and dislikes. Just look at the RPGs, Japanese prefer more linear(FF) story lines while Americans like more open world sandbox type of RPGs(mass effect(even though bioware is canadian)). In short, different strokes for different folks, no need to get angry or trash someones preferences.
Agreed. The Japanese are almost a total 180 deg. from us as a culture. Granted, we have some influences on each other (and more as the world grows 'smaller' ), but on the whole, it really IS comparing apples to oranges. You, trudolfan (as well as I and many others), just happen to side w/ the oranges. Trust me, Japan has plenty of weird and crappy games which we would never even think of playing. If you don't believe me, ask tokyofish- he lives there.
I know they have their share of crap. Can't help it when developers throw together a steamer just to cash in, that happens wherever you go. I never did like too many of the games made by American game companies, and I probably never will. IMO, they are very shallow, and value style over substance.
I played a lot of video games in H.S./College. I was a Nintendo/PS guy (Nintendo, Super, 64, PS1, PS2). In college I played too much Madden and NCAA it seemed like. My friends had X-Box's so I played a lot of Halo. Well, I just went out and purchased an X-Box 360. I was told by GameStop, Best Buy, and Rhino Games employees that the X-Box 360 was the best console for gaming alone. PS3 was what I needed if I wanted all of the "features". I already have an HD DVD player, and that's fine. All I really wanted was the gaming. I purchased Halo 3, pre-ordered Madden and NCAA. So far, I've been impressed.
Well it is now official. That is a lot of consoles even if some say it isn't a direct competitor to the 360 or PS3. "Nintendo said Thursday that its globally popular Wii has become the top-selling video game console in the United States, a crown coveted by rivals Microsoft and Sony." Market-tracking firm NPD Group reports that 666,000 Wii consoles were sold in the United States in June, raising the total sales count in the country to nearly 10.9 million units. http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5jWvVlokEaXPzBapTncQMTKac24Jw
