To me, there is nothing more worthless than a 32 team power rankings list. You get excited about ranking the top 10 maybe, but then you stop caring until you can rank the bottom 2 or 3 teams.

I've been using, and constantly tweaking, a power ranking formula for the past few years to help me in my office pool. Basically I wanted to help myself look past the record and reputation of a team and place a little more value on the strength of their opponents.

    Rank - Points - (Record) - Team - Last week's ranking
    1 6.217 (3 - 0) New Orleans Saints - 5
Saints are the only 3-0 team whose opponents all have at least 1 win.
    2 5.550 (3 - 0) Denver Broncos - 6
The knock on the Broncos is they haven't beaten anyone good yet, but that week 1 miracle tip drill catch and win against the now 2-1 Bengals is looking better and better.
    3 5.550 (3 - 0) New York Jets - 1
Jets slip out of the top spot after beating up on 0-3 Titans. But they'll have their chance this weekend to take out #1 New Orleans
    4 5.383 (3 - 0) Minnesota Vikings - 7
Another miracle finish for Favre. I'm sick of the guy, but couldn't help feeling that that one TD pass is enough of a reason for Favre, and the Vikings to put up with all the crap surrounding his latest un-retirement.
    5 5.217 (3 - 0) Baltimore Ravens - 4
Not sure about this team, two victories over 0-3 teams.
    6 5.050 (3 - 0) New York Giants - 3
Like the Jets, moved down because they got their latest victory against a winless team.
    7 4.383 (2 - 1) Cincinnati Bengals - 9
That week 1 miracle tip drill catch is the only thing keeping the Bengals out of the #1 spot.
    8 3.917 (3 - 0) Indianapolis Colts - 10
Colts opponents are a combined 2-7.
    9 3.883 (2 - 1) New England Patriots - 12
Solid rebound victory against the Falcons.
    10 2.883 (2 - 1) Green Bay Packers - 20
Brett Favre's last 3 teams are in the top 10.
    11 2.750 (2 - 1) San Francisco 49ers - 2
Tough loss against the Vikings. So close to a 3-0 start. With one of the league's easiest schedules, this is a playoff team.
    12 2.750 (2 - 1) Chicago Bears - 11
    13 2.583 (2 - 1) Dallas Cowboys - 15
Hard team to figure out. 2 victories against 0-3 teams, and one loss against a 3-0 team.
    14 2.250 (2 - 1) Philadelphia Eagles - 17
Just like Dallas, 2 victories against 0-3 teams, and one loss against a 3-0 team.
    15 2.083 (2 - 1) San Diego Chargers - 13
    16 1.750 (2 - 1) Atlanta Falcons - 8
Like Dallas and Philly 2 victories against 0-3 teams, but one loss against a 2-1 team. But I think this is an overrated team, nonetheless.
    17 1.417 (1 - 2) Detroit Lions - 25
Lions fans, all 85 of you, rejoice you are so close to being ranked in the top half of the league. (Mathematically) How are they better than 1-2 defending Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh? Both losses came against undefeated Minnesota and New Orleans, and their 1 victory came against a team that had actually won a game this season.
    18 0.917 (1 - 2) Jacksonville Jaguars - 27
    19 0.750 (1 - 2) Buffalo Bills - 21
    20 0.750 (1 - 2) Oakland Raiders - 22
    21 0.583 (1 - 2) Arizona Cardinals - 14
    22 -0.250 (1 - 2) Houston Texans - 16
    23 -0.250 (1 - 2) Seattle Seahawks - 18
    24 -0.250 (1 - 2) Washington Redskins - 19
    25 -0.750 (0 - 3) Cleveland Browns - 24
All 3 Cleveland opponents are a combined 9-0, Vikes, Broncos, Ravens.
    26 -0.750 (1 - 2) Pittsburgh Steelers - 23
    27 -1.750 (0 - 3) Miami Dolphins - 26
Dolphins opponents are a combined 7-2 tying them for the 2nd hardest schedule so far.
    28 -2.250 (0 - 3) Carolina Panthers - 28
    29 -2.250 (0 - 3) Kansas City Chiefs - 29
    30 -2.250 (0 - 3) Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 32
    31 -2.250 (0 - 3) Tennessee Titans - 31
    32 -2.750 (0 - 3) St. Louis Rams - 30

    Strength of Schedule update.
