Get a Hungry Retread. Since it seems Mr. Ross has decided that he must get a big established name, that leaves him with essentially 4 "available" choices, Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden, Brian Billick, and Jeff Fisher. And unless Andy Reid gets fired, Fisher is clearly the best option. The 6 best arguments FOR Jeff Fisher are; Tom Coughlin, Tony Dungy, Bill Belichick, Dick Vermeil, Mike Shanahan and Don Shula. All 6 coaches were fired from a head coaching job, most after long term success, and went on to win Super Bowls elsewhere. And the 9 best arguments AGAINST Cowher, Gruden, Billick, are; Vince Lombardi, Tom Flores, Joe Gibbs, George Seifert, Mike Ditka, Bill Parcells, Jimmy Johnson, Mike Holmgren, Dick Vermeil, and Mike Shanahan. All won a Super Bowl and failed to repeat that success with a new team. Though to be fair, Parcells and Holmgren brought their new teams to Super Bowls, and Shanahan hasn't been fired from the Redskins yet. The basic point is that Fisher is the only available guy who HAD success, but still HAS that hunger needed to get to and win a Super Bowl. If you are going to go with a retread, go with a HUNGRY retread.
Also to be fair, Lombardi only coached the Skins for one season before dying from colon cancer at 57 yrs old.
Best case against a retread head coach is: -Wanny -Norv Turner Both pretty much rode talented teams down into the cellar.
There are a ton of arguments like that. Ray Rhodes, Rich Kotite, Wade Phillips, Bruce Coslet etc. Retreads fail more often than succeed. But I would put Fisher with the group I mentioned above. Would you?
If Fisher gets an offer from San Diego he's going there. Philip Rivers & no Patriots/Jets.... or Uncertainty in Miami?
watch the NYG situation. If they miss the postseason that would be the job that lures him back to coaching.
you know I've never once heard Ross say what your claiming he said..That he wants a big name coach..You would have to be a stupid man to make that claim publicly, so why paint that pictrure??
No offense, but there's no way you could possibly make that call. You might want to think about some of the coaches that have Superbowl rings before you make a statement like that. Jeff Fisher 'not too far off' Dave Wannestedt? All I can say is... 'wow'. Actually, a lot of teams were. They were very well respected as a... get this... 'extremely well-coached' football team. I've lived in Nashville the entire time the Oilers/Titans have been here, and with all due respect, I don't think you could be more wrong in your assessment of Fisher or the Titans. I don't think you've paid very much attention to either one. Under Fisher, Tennessee was well known for always playing solid football and beating good teams.
I think our biggest competition for Fisher would be San Diego, Indianapolis, and the New York Giants. I think San Diego would be #1 for Fisher. However, I am hearing conflicting rumors here in Nashville. I've heard he really wants to be in SD... I've also heard he's 'very interested' in the Miami job. There's also buzz about him coaching Manning/Luck vs the Titans twice a season. No one really knows, and a final decision is a long way off. Anything can happen. So, again, I don't want to get my hopes up. If he's hired, I feel like he very well could be another 20-year head coach in Miami. Hell, he did 17 under Bud Adams.
My instinct says if the Dolphins want Fisher, they'll get him. But that may be because Huizenga always got his man from JJ to Saban to Parcells. However, Ross's inability to woo Harbaugh last year says he may not have those salesman skills. I'm openly rooting for San Diego to make the playoffs and save Norv's job. But your point about Indy, makes sense. That organization would have a lot of knowledge and respect for Fisher, and I'd assume it is mutual.
Of course. BTW, I was referring to Fisher being a part of the Shula, Dungy, Coughlin, Belichick, Vermeil, Shanahan group as far as the success they had with their first team before winning a Super Bowl with another.
Well, tbh, the way I see it we have been down for so long, I'd be happy with Fisher and really think what he does well fits the core of the team. This is my complaint about the hot coordinator route, we have no idea if their strengths match up to what we have in any form that would allow us, to you know, win football games.
I'am sure a lot of people won't agree, but I feel in no way did Ross have anything to do with Harbaugh not being our coach...That man wanted frisco, and all that it entails {right down to a Bill walsh idol}..I truly believe that and its why I don't believe all the BS that has been spewed upon our owner.
