Fish was a coach for a long time Deej. My question is, if they do land him, does he shake off our fans blaahs?
I would be very happy and appreciative if he could land that guy..Can't speak for others, some seem to be more interested in continuing to make our team and culture look bad, than who is the right guy..
I'd love to have Fisher as HC, but sort of like the thought of Brian Billick as well We will finish top 10 in Defense Billick knows how to win with such a team.
Just the thought of hiring another Cam Cameron type coach will make me sick . Therefore I am voting for Gruden first , Fisher 2nd , Cowher 3rd , and steve Maruichi who know one ever mentions 4th. hell I would embrace Mike Martz .
Ray Lewis is my favorite football player for many reasons..Not a fan of Billick for some of those reasons.
Mooch has some sort of familial issue that keeps him on the West Coast As for Billick, I think he offers some of the qualities we need at HC Deej, and as I pointed out, our D will be Top 10, maybe Top 5 with Bowles running the team the last 3 weeks, Billick is a great delegator who is also sharp as a tack and can play the media game, one thing that the Dolphins franchise needs badly. Wanny was a dolt, Saban was a paranoid, Cameron was clueless, and Sparano and the "one voice" crap has done more to turn off fans as the product on the field has done imo.
Pod, I don't like the reasons your stating for him to be our coach long term.. I want someone who walks into the room and demands respect, I want leadership first and foremost, than we'll go from there..
I want someone who is smart with a good track record who also has developed young players every yr for them to make an impact. The reality in our Division is the Pats will always have an edge in the draft in terms of # of picks, if we don't counter that we will face the same situation the Jets are in a team that is getting older without a method for developing young players who they acquired cheaply.
And it doesn't matter, if you think about it, how many Coaches have been fired since 07? 15? 20? More? Point being, it cannot be said he has been out of the league so long because there were better candidates, or there would not have been so many fired between then and now. Wonder if Peterson sees him as Dick Vermeil?
If it wasn't for Brady, the Pats would be up sh65 creek, those folks draft like sh6%....Jets front office and coach...no thank you.. Those are not how I want to emulate our team after...
I lived in Baltimore for a year, at the time he was going downhill..The man had lost the respect of his team..
Well, in all fairness, Fisher's son was Mariani's college teammate... they may have actually been roommates, but I can't remember right off the top of my head. Anyway, Fisher was very familiar with him.
They used to be, before the NFL divisional re-alignment in... 2002? EDIT: Sorry, didn't see Muscles' post.
To me, it highlights one of the problems Ireland has, it would have been simply enough to use a pick on him, instead they took Chris McCoy. Ireland seems allergic to drafting guys who can actually, make plays, he tries to go to cheap imo.
Well, I can't be too hard on a guy for missing out on a 7th rounder. I'm not sure if Mariani had much of a noticeable grade. I'm not the world's biggest Jeff Ireland fan, but, I'll give him a pass on getting out-jumped for a guy Fisher clearly had in his sights. Besides, I actually liked the McCoy pick. He just never panned out... meh...
Eh, we wound up with Nolan Carrol returning kicks that yr, and he was not good at it, add in Ireland peddled Ginn for him and clearly that did not work out very well, so we took speed off of ST and at Wr, and added, Brian McCoy is in the CFL atm, he has looked good so far.
I'm in the minority but I don't think we'll ever win a title with Fisher. Hes not a great coach, hes good, better than Sparano but I dont think hes a great hire. He had a lot of losing years in Tenn. Hes not too far off from.Wannestadt IMHO. I know I'm not going to be popular for saying so but hes not a great coach. No one was EVER afraid of Tennessee.
Well, I thought they were a fine team in the late 90's with McNair/Kearse/Wychek/George, always thought they could beat anyone. When they lost Kearse they lost a lot imo. As for wanny, I can see some of that, if you look at his Rb's and the amount of carries they had, he was wannyish.
Well I see the same coach as Wannestedt (he had a good w/l record if im not mistaken) but his run on firstdown play not to lose mentality wont win a title he's good butnotgreat not excited if we hire him sorry.
I too lived in Nashville and followed the Titans a fair amount for several years, and I agree with everything quoted. Fisher has been at or near the top of my list from the very beginning. Watching the Titans under Fisher, it became very clear to me that guys played better while they were in Tennessee. Fisher put together some very impressive defenses over the years with personnel that doesn't always jump out at you as being stacked. They certainly never had the on-paper talent of Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New England, or any of the other teams with great defenses over that era. I have always thought those Titans teams under Fisher were coached up. Guys loved him. They played their guts out for him. The only real problems that occurred during Jeff Fisher's time at Tennessee were more GM-related issues. They got into salary cap trouble for a bit. And they drafted Haynesworth, Pacman, and VY. I think Fisher could win here. I think he's what we need when it comes to guys under-performing. And, despite this recent, superficial run, has been an issue under Sparano. This team quit on Tony in Week 17 last season. And it came into this season, with so much on the line, out-of-shape and ill-prepared. I don't see that sort of thing happening under Fisher. There are only two real issues I see with Fisher: a) He's a 4-3 guy, and that probably means the end of Nolan in Miami. b) We still need a quarterback.
I'm pretty sure Wanny would never get this sort of praise: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/19/derrick-mason-on-jeff-fisher-players-love-him/
I think that team was very well coached, but lacked in the personnell dept...He got the most out of Eddie george and derick mason.
What did Kearse ''the freak'', and Albert fat *** Haynesworth ever do when Fisher was not their coach?.. I'll tell you what they did do when he was their coach, make trips to hawaii..
I'd always be a proponent for Fisher. He's a solid coach who could bring the talent on this team to it's best potential. I do have some questions though. 1) I don't think this is a full rebuild, like when the current regime took over but Fisher is a 4-3, heavy cover 2 guy. Do we currently have the personnel to make that transition. We do along the DL. Wake doesn't exactly fit as an everydown 4-3 OLB, unless he's moved to DE. Dansby might do well at MLB, but I'm not sure about Bennett...Misi could adapt and might be better suited to the OLB role in that scheme. The secondary is the real issue. Outside of Davis and Smith, the rest of the DBs can be tossed out...Including Bell, but only because of his age. Even those two have been inconsistent and certainly Davis didn't know how to prepare his body like a Pro. 2) Will Nolan be retained ?? He's is more comfortable with a hybrid 3-4/4-3 than what he was asked to coach here, but is that enough for Fisher ?? Despite the slow start of the D this year, I truly think the lockout had everything to do with that. 3) Daboll's O is good enough. I like what I've seen of it. I think we'll see less pound and ground if he's retained because of not having Sparano's influence, but it's not the typical O that Fisher likes to run.... We don't have the RBs he likes... Can Daboll make the transition, will he even be asked to and will be 'starting over from scratch there ?? 4) Can Fisher and Irish coexist...that's the real question....
Exactly. Look at a guy like Kyle Vanden Bosch too. KVB had two 12+-sack seasons in his first three years after coming to Tennessee (before getting hurt). I saw this all the time while living in Nashville.
