idk. but to me this one of those "you either have it or you dont" sort of things. i could live with everything else if he showed an ability to lead some more winning drives. even if he had been playing much better in all areas, this would still be a main concern of mine. regardless of his development, he is not looking like a winner. today's end of game performance feels like the straw that broke my henne supporting back
It is definitely concerning, but at the same time he's had plenty of mixed moments where he actually does look like a leader, and I want THAT guy out there. Maybe a change in the coaching staff can resuscitate him. Maybe it's simply a psychological thing this year. That's one of the reasons I don't want to give up on him yet. I've given up on this offense exactly as it sits, but I'm not yet giving up on the QB till I see some solid changes across the board that allow me to feel good about giving up on a young QB, but I can't hold it against you for feeling "enough is enough".
i think he needs another chance to get broken down and built up again by fresh eyes that know what they are doing. his entire approach to the game needs changing. but this end of game stuff is, imo, by far his worst trait
One thing I do truly feel: is that it's difficult to be a consistent QB when an entire offense & coaching staff around you are inconsistent.
I have said for months now that Chad Henne would be traded to either the Vikings or Cardinals. He's as good as gone, I hope so at least.
While I would not argue with those who feel that the entire offense needs to be rebuilt. Those defending Henne obviously do no see the writing on the wall concerning his future in Miami. I don't expect Sparano to be the coach next year. But if for some reason the owner decides not to replace him. There is no way Sparano would risk his job next year by starting Henne again. If ireland and Sparano remain here. A trade, a free agent signing, or using their first round pick in the draft for a QB is muck more likely than Henne still being the starter next year. If as expected. The owner does bring in a new coach. I also suspect that any new coach coming in would want to replace Henne. Anyone that looks at the tapes of the games this year will clearly see that Henne is not a quality starting QB in this league. I seriously doubt that a new coach would want to have his job resting in the hands of Henne. What Henne has shown since he left high school is that his play at QB is just not very good. After his senior year at Michigan. The long time coach there was fired. Now it is Sparano's job that is tied to the fortunes of Henne. We all see where that is headed. Any new coach coming here and making Henne the starter is only asking to be fired within a few years. This is the one thing you can rely on Henne for. His play on the field will do nothing but cost the head coach his job.
While I will not argue that the defense did not play a very good game yesterday. I just find it rather funny that many people blame Bess for falling and Shuler for running the wrong route on Henne's interceptions. Yet these same people fail to mention that the one TD pass Henne did throw in the game should haved been intercepted by the Lions defensive back. In fact, if not for the defensive back dropping the ball. The pass would have been over the head of Bess and thrown out of bounds. Henne showed once again yesterday that he can not get the job done over 4 quarters. He has periods in most games where he looks like he knows what he is doing. But yesterday, like so many other games. He again was unable to lead his team to victory. While the Lions 3rd string QB, with his top receiver out of the game with an injury. Led his team to a come from behind victory. With a little over two minutes left in the game. Henne was once again given the opportunity to show that he could take the offense down the field and tie the game. Once again, as he has done, game after game. He failed to rally his team and instead of even coming close to scoring the needed TD. He let the time run out on the clock while the Lions celebrated yet another victory for a visiting team at Dolphins stadium.
I haven't read this entire thread but the Henne debate starts and ends with a simple equation. I DON'T care what Henne does the first three quarters. Good and elite QB's in the NFL shine during crunch time. During crunch time this season, Henne has FAILED MISERABLY. Throwing INT after INT. The Browns game fiasco. His 2 minute offense against every opponent is pathetic. No sense of the clock, no sense of the field, no killer instinct, no leadership. Henne has lost more games than he has won for us this season. In fact, he seems to wait until the end of the game to make his WORST decisions.. 2 INT's? If the Lions could catch, he would have thrown 3-4 INT's in the last 5 minutes alone... As soon as the game gets tight, Henne gets tight and the entire stinking ship collapses, including Sparano's career here. Parcells was on to something.. And now Sparano will be going down as well for sticking with Henne.. And before anyone calls me a hater I've been a staunch support of Henne, but after yesterday I'm sold on the fact that he simply needs to go.
This was an ENTIRE team loss. Henne deserves no singular blame for this game. Anyone throwing blame at Henne for this loss are only doing so b/c it's easier to blame ONE person than it is an entire team. The saying still holds true: fans give QBs too much credit when they win, and entirely too much blame when they lose. As a rebuttal, I don't care what Miami did for 3 quarters b/c good teams can close a game out AS A TEAM. A good running team can run the ball consistently throughout a game..... a good team can keep an opponent from scoring a 53 yard TD while capitalizing on INT opportunities..... a good team plays better special teams for 4 qtrs.... a good team isn't called for penalties during crucial drives..... and a good team has quality depth at the WR-TE position so they're not calling on NUMEROUS undrafted rookies and a guy fresh off the street to be on the field late in the 4th qtr when the game is on the line. IF the defense didn't allow the big TD, the score is still 27-17 and there's no reason for our QB to have to throw the ball INTO A GUSTING WIND with only 2 of his original receivers on the field b/c the coaches don't trust the ground game enough to let it close out a win. 27 points in that weather was PLENTY enough to win the game if the ENTIRE TEAM HAD DONE IT'S JOB WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's funny? Who else is to blame for Bess falling and Shuler stopping his route? Is that Henne's fault? The pass to Bess for the TD? Get real man. There was a tight window to throw to and the ball was placed where the DB had no shot at making an INT. What's funny is people blabbing about Henne not taking chances down field, yet when he does, he gets crucified for it by people like you. So let me get this straight, the DB who is IN FRONT of Bess can can get his finger tips on the ball, but Bess has "no shot" at it if the DB doesn't make a good play? Not sure if I believe the laws of physics would 100% accurately support your argument. Comments like these make it impossible to take you seriously!! One more straw man's argument for the books to try and falsely support an argument. Hill "led his team" to victory? He threw a screan pass that was taken 53 yards to the house, and then Bess slips leading to a pick 6. Hill was the recipient of a win; he did NOT lead his team to victory like you attempt to claim.
I just think this is a rather unfair analysis. How many 4th quarter drives over the last two seasons has Henne led us down the field for scores? We saw it twice last week. It's not his fault that after he throws one incompletion Dan Henning and Tony Sparano decide to take him out for the Wildcat. The simple truth is that our offense and the way our coaches run it is not designed to be able to come from behind very well. And our dysfunctional two minute offense is, in my opinion, on Sparano and not Henne. Our entire offense looks out of sync. We're moving guys on and off the field. There's no sense of urgency in getting a play called. It doesn't appear as if we have designated quick plays for situations in which guys are tackled in bounds. That's on the coaching staff, not our young quarterback. If you're talking about his 4th quarter play, I think you have to look beyond the stats. On the first scoring drive last week, he went 9-for-9 and absolutely carved up the defense. I've seen him do this many times over the last two seasons. Imagine what he might do if he had a little speed at receiver to stretch the field or a guy out of the backfield that could take one of his many check-downs and take it to the house. I'm not saying the kid has played perfect late in games, but I've seen plenty to suggest that in a better offensive system, with a better coach, and an additional playmaker Henne could get it done.
Glad I'm not the only one to notice that bit of revisionist history. Once again, the Henne-hating leads people to argue the absurd. Look, guys. I understand your perspective. You have legitimate gripes. But please cease and desist from all the nonsense. I understand that it would really make your argument look great if you could say Hill outplayed Henne in the 4th quarter. It would make all of us defending Henne look like fools. But it's simply not true. Attempts to suggest otherwise make you look ridiculous. Same goes for arguments that he let the time run out on the clock. Dan Henning called that play, and Chad Henne "executed" it exactly as he wanted him to. If you have a problem with the outcome, then take out your frustrations on Henning, not Henne. You're entitled to having a different opinion. And I can respect the fact that you do. But you're not entitled to your own facts.
I have always found that the people defending Henne are going absurd. The amount of players they have to make worse and things they have to make up is amazing. Also Henne could have used his smart brain and threw the ball away.
Chad Henne has come to his end by his own hand should busy ourselves about things that matter like 2011
Why? The throw was there. Again, he didn't call the play. You're asking a lot out of a second-year QB to say "well, I know my coordinator called this play and although the guy is open Marshall might not make that block and Ronnie might be tackled in bounds so therefore I'm just going to throw the ball away and waste a down and a couple of seconds." There was nothing to suggest that the situation was not exactly what Dan Henning wanted when Dan Henning made that call. Henne did his job. Marshall didn't get a solid block on Vasher, and Ronnie didn't make it out of bounds. But sure, feel free to ignore the roles that Henning, Marshall, and Ronnie played on that down and blame the one guy that actually did his job. At this point, it's par for the course. And let's not forget that, had Henne just thrown the ball away, many of his bashers would be on here blaming him for that. Maybe you wouldn't have. Maybe you would have the intellectual honesty to come on here and say he did the right thing given the awful play called by Henning. But you and I both know that others would not be so kind.
There is nothing wrong with throwing the ball away. I would not have bashed Henne just to bash Henne. You can blame Henning for all of Henne's problems. That is your decision.
I'm not blaming Henning for all of Henne's problems, and I'm tired of straw men. Your suggestion that a "smart quarterback" would not have made that throw to Ronnie is silly. Perhaps a Marino or Manning says "what a stupid ****ing playcall from our dip**** offensive coordinator, I'm going to audible to something different." But there's absolutely no reason to expect that from a second-year starter who doesn't even appear to have audible authority, aside from protection schemes. If your concern is the wisdom of the decision, then look to Henning. As I said before, Henne executed the play called. But I guess that's just a little too much nuance for you. I've had disagreements with you before in the past. I have no desire to waste anymore time with this one.
What is silly about it? There are 39 seconds remaining, and every second is precious. Ronnie Brown is actually behind the line of scrimmage and there are men around him. If Ronnie Brown was wide open and could get 10 yards and then get out of bounds, then maybe the check down would make some sense. However there were people in the area and a smart quarterback would have realilzed that. I do not think the play call has anything to do with it. That is a waste of an argument because no matter the play call it is the quarterback who is on the field and has to make the decision where the ball is thrown. But I guess you are too busy insulting me than trying to have a discussion.
i agree 100%. watch football on any sunday and you will see that play called tons of times. Its a gimme play with time running out who's sole purpose is to make the hail mary type of throws at the end of the game more manageable. when those plays are covered you will see 4 out of 5 QBs heave it into the stands or into the dirt. you dont complete that pass if there is a threat of being tackled in bounds
The ints are sooo obvious and terrible....not like tipped passes or wrong WR routes...in fact you cant even spot the WR he meant to throw it to.....that has nothing to do with the coaches and crew around you..............if you are soo blind that you can see a defender in front of you all alone....and you throw it right at him...........who is to blame other then the moron that threw the pass......Henne has not developed enough to know that and take care of the ball?? He needs more time to learn not to throw pics? STAT CHECK...........50 yd against the Jets.........50..........yds...........!! Hw much longer do you want to sink in to media-cra-tee??? Henne was BENCHED this year and only came back when Pennington got hurt..........so the coaching staff was about ready to quit on him too what has this guy done to make you think he is a starter??? He cant move the team............!! Everyone has a fault here..................but even a 3rd stringer has to be able to avoid the kind of mistakes that Henne makes repeat-ed-ly
You must not have watched the game. The pick-6 was most definitely because Bess fell and the 1st pick was probably the ROOKIE TE stopping his route while Henne led him.
It is nice that are devoted.......but please stop thinking as a homer...........and be objecxtive......think outside the box.................dont be like the Clipper fan that waves the number one finger when the clips score a basket and they are still down by 50!! I have been a fan for about 30 years...and the tv gives me a closer look than you get from 40 rows up.............you are thinking as a fan who wants so badly to support Henne. I can appreciate that. As fans, we should be supportive............but did you notice how many equally devoted fans DONT agree with you. So either we are all wrong or maybe you are seriuosly missing something. Henne is a nice guy. Im sure he gives money to charity and signs autographs after a game. But on the field, he has had about a season and a half. And the same issues that plagued him from day one, continue to set him and the whole team back. How many silly pic 6s are you going to ignore and turn a blind eye to? Shouldn't you be more supportive of the team as a whole than one guy that has already lost us several winnable games. A guy that the fans and even the very Dolphin coaching staff had given up on? Did the Dolphin staff themselves not go to Pennington half way through the season? If Pennington had not gotten hurt, i mean the pass prior to that was a 19 yard pass completion, would Henne be on the field? We do value your comment and long time commitment to the local team.............but in the whole picture.......see it for what it really is.........Henne is in a long line of post Marino QBs who are not NFL ready. Maybe he would be served to sit a year............and maybe he was thown in there too soon.....but whatever has brought us to this..............it is what it is............. or did you not see the 50 yd game against the Jets, and the 2 pics against "powerhouse" Detroit. Shaun Hill wanted to ask you a question: DONT YOU WISH YOUR QB WAS HOT LIKE ME........... DONT YOU?
Wow, Sparano only gave Henne six minuses for the entire game. Good for him. Perhaps Sparano should be more concerned with how many minuses the owner gave him yesterday. Reports after the game stated that Ross was extremely upset with the play of the Dolphins and with the coaching staff. Maybe Sparano can get a job as a math teacher after this season. This way he can teach plus and minus to those who really need to learn the difference. I have to think that based on reports. Ross has a lot more minuses recorded for Sparano and his coaching staff than Sparano had for Henne yesterday. If Sparano really thinks that Henne is improving. Perhaps if he goes on to coach another team. He will be willing to take Henne with him. I'll take a 6th round pick for Henne right now.
Yeah, and he only gave Henne 6 minus' for the game too. I've seen the replay enough to see that the ball was thrown to his right shoulder. The Lb caught the ball right as he was passing Bess on the ground. A miracle and Bess catches it... Yeah Tony, he was so open..
And Sparano is correct. Henne didn't have his best game, but the pick-6 was NOT his fault and other than that INT he played pretty well.
If Sparano and the offensive evaluated Chad and found that to he true than I believe him. I thought it was a poor throw and decision, but if they see otherwise than they are correct. I have to imagine only 6 minuses is pretty good.
Hmmm. he did throw 2 PICS.. and well if my WR fell, I would have pulled the ball back and not just mechanically thrown it blindly, and the ball was thrown so poorly and directly at the defender so it probably could not be caught by Bess, or anyone else on the team anyway. And if that is the best you can come back with , i remind you that this is not the 1st game Henne has thrown mutliple ints and pic 6s in.....did the WR fall down in all of those too? Maybe it was the field? Or the lights? Maybe it was Sporano or Henning? Or the ghost of Jay Fielder or Jim Kelly past? Ummm..............did Henne not have a game when he threw.........3 ints???? In fact, how many mutilple int games has Henne thrown this year?? That is progress.........progressively worse every game..........how many yards against NY? 300............no..........200.........no...........150..........try like 50 yds......!! I am not trying to bring down Henne....he does a good job of doing that all by his lonesome. Stop and just think..............if you found out on the radio the dolphins have just aquired a QB, lets call him Paul Roach, and saw the stats and saw over 15 pics in the past season, lets say 4 pics thrown and returned for for TDS, and a passing game where the guy threw less than 100 yds, honestly.........honestly...........you would support the guy being the starter for the Miami Dolphins?.....and if the radio host, said that in reality one of those pics was not his fault because his WR fell, ......Forget Henne for a sec.....a guy with those kind of numbers........ you would go out and pay your ticket and buy his jersey and support P.Roach? But you support Henne who has actually put up those poor stats as the future of the Fins? OH! Did he not get benched this year by the coaching staff??? I sincerely admire your support of the guy.....i wish i could have something to cheer.........but you need to see the whole picture...........and be concerned more about the future of the team rather than a guy who i wouldnt be surprised if he ended up not being the starter next year and might not even be with the team....... thanks for the kind sentiment anyway
Yeah, it must be that you're the only one who sees things correctly. Has to be cause you said so... save it...
I'm the only one? What about the Head Coach for the Miami Dolphins? When I first watched the play I knew exactly what happened. So did Sparano and any other objective person in the world. Save what? My common sense and objectivity?
It was all because his target fell down right? Had he not, only Bess would have caught it right? I mean the Lb didn't have time to catch it did he? Being that he caught it exactly in front of where Bess was standing, I'd say WRONG. Henne tried to fit that ball in there and it was still a dangerous throw. Other than that we saw Henne have a pretty decent day. I say that because he looked good in the no huddle and did some decent things. BUT he was inches away from disaster. THREE dropped int's that would have been returned to TD's on passes that he has no buisiness throwing. The ever present batted down passes, and some panic issues due to his line.
No! Save the bs comments that someone must not have watched because you think you saw it correctly. I could care less what anyone says. The Coach or anyone who saw it. I know exactly what I saw and have explained it over and over in this thread...
