San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary has been informed that he has been fired, David White of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that Singletary was informed of the decision upon the team's return to its facility tonight.

A Hall of Fame linebacker, Singletary has compiled an 18-22 record in 2 1/2 seasons since he replaced Mike Nolan as the 49ers head coach.

After entering 2010 with playoff expectations, the 49ers struggled to an 0-5 start. Starting quarterback Alex Smith was injured in Week 7, with former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith guiding the 49ers to a 3-2 record before Singletary re-inserted Alex Smith into the starting lineup in order to maximize the playbook for an offense that had also lost running back Frank Gore to a season-ending hip injury.

Alex Smith had a career-day against the Seattle Seahawks, but struggled four days later against the San Diego Chargers and was replaced in the starting lineup by Troy Smith for today's must-win game against the St. Louis Rams.

Troy Smith struggled in today's loss, and he and Singletary engaged in a heated argument in the second half. Singletary would swap Smiths in the fourth quarter, but the 49ers' comeback attempt fell short, eliminating the team from playoff contention.

And Kubiaks' time in Texas is over after an embarrassing loss to the Raiders, the story line goes "a 3:15 start next Sunday will only push back the inevitable".
