I don't think this has come up here yet... But there's a small $13 PC/Mac title called Minecraft. http://minecraft.net/ It's a very small FPS that is basically blocks that you can mine to build stuff. It's very hard to describe what it is and what the gameplay is like... But it has a MASSIVE following and is addicting as all hell. Anyone play? I run a multiplayer server where a few friends and myself are building a complex network of skyways.
I think I saw this on that Yahoo article yesterday. Top 10 games you've never played. Some of those looked like fun.
I love the YouTube vid of the guy who accidentally sets his house on fire. EDIT: YouTube - Minecraft FIREE WTFFFFFFF!!!!!
This is one of those games I am forcing myself to avoid because its something that I know I will be hooked on..... I don't know how long my willpower will hold out!
A couple of guys here at work have been going on about it for the last couple of months. Personally I'm avoiding it, just doesn't seem like my type of thing. The guy who wrote it is making a killing off of it though.
When the guys at work showed it to me I thought it was the silliest crap I'd ever seen. I thought, "ok it's cool... But I can't see myself playing this" A month later I host a server and we have 5 hour long construction projects to build a skybridge and a floating sphere that we plan to set on fire.
Probably why I'm avoiding it. I've got a backlog of around 10 games, most still in the cello to clear for the 360 first. Off the top of my head I've got Halo Reach, Halo ODST, Mass Effect 2, Fable 2, Borderlands, Dead Space, GTA4, Lego Batman, Pure, Prey, Forza 3 and PGR4. Add in Assassins Creed 3 next month and I've got a lot to play through.
