Had you read my position properly you would have known I already criticized him for not being clean within the proper time. I was simply attacking the public demonizing & castrating that seems to come with anyone who smokes a harmless plant. See Michael Phelps.

There are a ton of misinformed people about this substance, and the treatment that people give it as if it is something to be concerned about "character", is an absolute joke.

People that are so anal about these kind of "character issues"(essentially pushing your morals on others), which turn a blind eye to their use of alcohol are far beyond the point of nauseating. The law is what is ****ed up here, not Percy Harvin. He is taking part in a harmless activity on his own time that millions of Americans do every day. He is now paying the price for being caught like millions of Americans do every year.

I agree entirely though, that he deserves plenty of criticism for not being on top of things.

You are clearly letting your love of pot and passion about laws banning its use, cloud (no pun intended) your judgement on this. Whether pot should be legal or not is an issue that should be discussed in the political forum. For the record I agree with you on that issue. But what's so nauseating about people that recognize a potential character issue when a player can't obey laws? It doesn't matter if the law is just or not. Players that play professional sports are held to a higher standard than the rest of us. Because of the exposure there will always be concern when players use recreational drugs whether they are legal or not. Honestly the "nauseating" insult really has no place on this board IMO.

i totally agree, but maybe we can act like we're interested and bring him in for some workouts so that a team might trade up to get him and we can move down and pick up more picks! ..... wishful thinking.

your train of thought is what's wrong with this country. what good is his talent if he's gonna be suspended for four games the first time, than a year, and so on and so on? I don't want any part of someone who can't follow rules. Being good at your job doesn't give you the right to break the rules and/or laws.

there's no doubt in my mind that he will get drafted, make millions and buy more drugs than he's ever bought in his life. Money is the root of all evil!

My screen name is a joke! I think we're idiots for taking Ricky back. I'm glad it paid off, but i would have never made that decision.

They are talking about this over on the FH forum too, and one guy over there still believes the 60s propaganda they used to feed us back then calling pot a gateway drug. Back then, what they would tell us in elementary school and Jr High went something like, smoking pot will lead you to shooting heroin, which will lead you to dropping acid, which will cause you to try to rip your eyeballs out of your head to get a better view of the sun, or jump off a cliff because you believe you can fly...and then you are really messed up.
He probably believes the Reefer Madness movies from the 1930s too.

Yes because I am now sure that he will now become a druggy and ruin his career cause he has money.

he is a criminal, by definition he broke the law. You don't like the law write your congressman. for now it is illegal. People know the ramificaitons of using, if you get punished or labeled a criminal, then it should just be accepted.

At one point or another im sure most of us have been criminals, some more then others. Does not change the fact that when you break the law you are in fact a criminal. To what degree is a different story.
I don't understand how you guys can try to turn this into a should marijuana be illegal argument. Harvin chose to smoke marijuana within a range that would cause him to test positive on a test he knew was coming. He is far from a victim here.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't look down on anybody who smokes pot. But this doesn't have anything to do with whether smoking pot is ok or not ok. I don't understand why some of you are trying to turn this discussion into that. The issue is here is a guy who obviously is involved with something that will earn him suspensions if he continues it. Those are league rules and we as fans can do little about them. So why do you find it so hard to believe that NFL teams, the Dolphins specifically should be careful about drafting a player who enjoys something that could get him suspended? As a team that endured the Ricky Williams saga there really shouldn't be any problems getting this. The fact that he smoked before the combine combined with other rumored character flaws is a red flag. It really doesn't matter if the general conscensus is, "Smoking weed is no big deal." The NFL thinks otherwise, and that's what NFL teams have to take into account. That's why it's a BIG DEAL that Harvin is rumored to have failed a drug test. That's why it affects his draftability.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I think it's frustrating that some of you are trying to turn this discussion into something it's not. There is no basis to point at those of us who have concerns over Harvin's character as being "Pot hating stiffs". Maybe the problem is we're calling it a "character flaw" and some are taking it personally. What if we call it a NFL compliance issue concern?

I am by no means saying he was the victim here. He is in fact an idiot for making that choice. He should not have smoked pot before test that he knew he was going to take. The fact that people are assuming he is going to get a contract and shoot up on cocaine is what is annoying. The guy smoked some pot and people wanna make it seem like he is a drug overlord or something. Its just ridiculous. I guess under your termanology he is a criminal but I don't consider him a criminal nor anyone else who smokes weed

My argument has nothing to do with "pot hatting stiffs". I just think that people can quit pot and not do it anymore and be absolutly ok with it. There are a few guys who have tested positive and never gone back (That we know of.) Ricky Williams was totally screwed up and his situation is not fair at all. Not the same thing what so ever.

I think why people assume he will get worse because of the timing. It means one of two things he either 1) gives a rats *** about the laws/rules, and will do whatever he feels like in which case yes he might end up shooting coke 2) he is an idiot and just did not think about it. Now granted he is a kid still and still learning, but given the circumstances of knowing the test was coming and how big of a deal the combine is, you have to wonder if he is just that dumb or just didn't care?
I think people are right to question this failed drug test.

Then it goes back to the question if he can't quit with millions of dollars on the line and when his draft status is at risk, what makes you think he'll quit when get gets a contract with a few million guaranteed?

I can see where some poeple would be scared of drafting him however people are basicly like well cocaine is next (Or more drugs). Thats what bothers me. He is an idiot and did make a huge mistake but like you said he can learn and make better choices. I really don't think this will be an issue for him but we only time will tell.

Also there were around 25 or 26 names to test positive at the combine.

He really did not lose millions of dollars. The best I seen was top 15 and worst was out or rd 1 before the test comes out. Fact is he will still probably be drafted in rd 1 or early rd 2. He has alot of talent and alot of teams know that.

It's a red flag. If this guy can't put it down for a month or do enough research to figure out how to get around the test coming up to the draft, I question his dedication to football. If he doesn't care enough to take precautions right now, as he's trying to come into the league, I'm not sure he really cares enough about the NFL for us to even consider him.

(Puff, puff) Pass on this guy..

And the jury is still out as to whether he has "lost millions" or not. Mock Drafts aren't worth spit! If they were, Brady Quinn would have a lot more money in his pockets.

i've been reading his site for a while and i believe that most of what he writes ends up being true. if he's wrong, he's quick to admit it.

Not that I don't agree with you, but the point is that the law states it is illegal and he knew the test was coming. It's more a question of his character and intelligence.

  32. DOLPHAN1

    DOLPHAN1 Premium Member Luxury Box

The fact is it is still illegal, regardless of opinion. This kid knew the test was coming. He still failed the test. That speaks to the quality of his character and, to some degree, his intelligence. This debate has nothing to do with morals or lack of factual information. Look at what he has done with what is legally accepted. At the very least he is saying he has little regard for rules, or is too stoned to care. You take your pick. Is he going to follow the rules when he reaches the NFL? No one can say for sure, but odds are better that he will get caught again and then suspended for it. The question then becomes do you, as a GM, take that chance?

Do you always repeat yourself when failing to make a point? I already criticized him on this very point.

 Please, the only problem here is the law, period. The amount of people who use marijuana in all professional sports is massive, in fact they are saying that near 30 strong draft prospects failed the same test that Harvin did, for marijuana. The fact is the teams only care if the players are at risk of suspension.

  35. DOLPHAN1

    DOLPHAN1 Premium Member Luxury Box

If your criticism of Harvin was your point, I apologize but that was not clear to me. Your post seems to point the blame for his ignorance and seeming disregard for "rules" to the uninformed public and an unfair legal system. That takes away focus from the questions surrounding this kid and his potential vs. risk factors. They should be looked upon as two completely different subjects.

  36. DOLPHAN1

    DOLPHAN1 Premium Member Luxury Box

Point made. But you continue to make excuses for all these players again because of a misinformed public and an unfair legal system. regardless of what anyone thinks should be legal or not, once again, it is a law, or more simply a rule and, like it or not, Harvin and the others that failed did not comply with it. That raises questions about character and the ability to follow rules. And yes, secondarily if they will be caught and suspended later on.

I don't see how you could make that kind of conclusion at all, as I never said anything like this.

The part about the misinformed public was simply about the lambasting that he was taking for being caught with a harmless substance. I even brought up Michael Phelps as another example of this. It had nothing at all to do with shifting blame.

The point I was making about the Law, is that if we weren't still living in a socially oppressive prohibition era similar to the early 20th century, this would be a non issue because it is not a performance enhancing drug. If there was any kind of justice in federal cannabis laws, this wouldn't matter in the least. Fortunately for Harvin, the teams don't treat marijuana the way the government does.

Now how on earth does that statement nullify my criticism about him not being able to pass the test he knew was coming? PLEASE explain that.

You mention it did not help to get caught but then go on to explain that this is all the fault of the government and silly laws, not to mention others wanting to impose their own morals on everyone. Which is it? He messed up or this is a non issue if the Government got rid of these silly laws?

Yea, he probably could have gotten away with it if he was smart enough or cared enough to stop long enough for it to clear or, as you say, use a Whizinater. :pity:

Had you made more of an effort to separate your criticisms and been more clear in your dis approval of his actions, we would not be having this conversation.

The law is to blame...not Percy Harvin. I don't think I'm confused about your point there. pretty clear I'd say.

See above. I will let you explain your self.

You clearly minimize what Harvin has done and maximized the blame for this on the misinformed public and laws that need to be changed. Your words.

No, actually as I have repeatedly said....I brought up the fact that the law is the only thing that causes this to be an issue of concern. Not the health of Percy Harvin, or some kind of unfair advantage he has from using a banned substance. Once again, NFL teams couldn't care any less as long as you don't get suspended. This is a fact, and reality. Wake up.

I think it's unfair to speculate the way you are here. For all we know, he could have failed the test with minuscule levels of THC. That doesn't excuse it by any means, but it's not the same picture that people continuously paint of him ignoring his forthcoming test now does it? WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES, WE ARE HUMAN. Stop speculating for the purposes of lobbying criticism, its foolish and worthless.

Had you made the slightest effort to read my posts in context instead of attributing false positions to me, dousing me with sensationalism and misquotes, maybe this entire discourse would have been unnecessary.

The law is what is ****ed up here, which was an allusion to both the fact marijuana is an innocuous drug as well as the ridiculous laws on the substance. You decided to turn that into a full blown excuse for Harvin failing the test, that's your on fallacy and your own creation.

I've already been over all of this.
