someones got some explaining to do.....

    http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/be...slug=ap-gym-underagechinese&prov=ap&type=lgns

"Earlier this month, the AP found registration lists previously posted on the Web site of the General Administration of Sport of China that showed both He and Yang were too young to compete. He was born Jan. 1, 1994, according to the 2005, 2006 and 2007 registration lists. Yang was born Aug. 26, 1993, according to the 2004, 2005 and 2006 registration lists. In the 2007 registration list, however, her birthday has changed to Aug. 26, 1992."

"China was asked to provide additional documents proving that five of the six members of its gold medal women’s gymnastics team were old enough to compete in the Beijing Olympics, in hopes of ending persistent questions about the girls’ ages. The International Gymnastics Federation asked China to submit documents that will further substantiate the ages of He Kexin, Yang Yilin, Jiang Yuyuan, Deng Linlin and Li Shanshan."

I can't believe some people want to remove the age limits for gymnastics, personally I want the age raised to at least 18.

Every 4 years I feel like I should go right down to the police station and register as a pedophile.

    Women's volleyball for the win!

    fyi...

"Age falsification has been a problem in gymnastics since the 1980s after the minimum age was raised from 14 to 15 to protect young athletes from serious injuries. The minimum age was raised to its current 16 in 1997."

If you take that quote and then this one...

"North Korea was barred from the 1993 world championships after FIG officials discovered Kim Gwang Suk, the gold medalist on uneven bars in 1991, was listed as 15 for three years in a row. Romania admitted in 2002 that several gymnasts’ ages had been falsified, including Olympic medalists Gina Gogean and Alexandra Marinescu."

Am I wrong, or does the IOC already have enough to "bar" China from the next world Championships? or Olympics? I guess it depends WHERE their ages were "listed"...

I don't know this whole thing stinks.

I can only hope that IOC the Gymnastics Federation and all powers that be fully investigate and properly resolve this matter based on facts and evidence. If it turns out that age limits were falsified then indeed medals should be stripped and redistributed to those participants that were victimized by this illegal action.

If it turns out that all ages are accurate and comply with Olympic policy, then at least at minimum the powers that be should publicly state if in the future age limits are attempted to be falsified sanctions will be given out to those countries and their athletes.

I do think China has to fess up as to way their own documents and registrations showed in accurate ages in the past concerning these specific girls.
