UK, August 24, 2009 - Gran Turismo 5 will feature some 1,000 cars and will be releasing in the fourth quarter of 2009, according to details fleetingly revealed on developer Polyphony Digital's official website.

I heard a lot of cars and tracks will have to be purchased separately from the game. That was a real turn off IMO, especially with the huge array of cars and tracks the previous games had. I can imagine it being very costly to collect them all.

Really? First I've heard that.

This was a few months ago when I first heard about the new game for the nextgen consoles. Maybe they changed their minds since then.

I hate the new direction games are going. Buy the game and then buy More of the game as you go.....it legitamizes companies to put less in the games you buy so that they can charge you more money down the road to get features 5 yrs ago would have been included.

It's one thing to offer an expansion to a game which is cool in my book, but to have to purchase content reeks of greed on the gaming companies' part IMO.

I don't know, count me as excited for this game. I already have it pre-ordered through Amazon with ECA.

It is either this direction of increasing the price to $100 a game.

Game companies are spending much more for making a game. Games haven't gone up in price since I was a child buying Zelda for $60.

They are the equivalent of $100 in the UK as I recall, and some games like COD:MW2 will be even more.

As long as the original game gives you your money's worth I don't see a problem. Fallout 3 is a good example. Just what you get out of the box is well worth the 60 bucks.

I agree...but if we see a drop we will know why.

There's too many quality games out there right now for companies to put less into their games. The whole point of additional content, aside from making money, is to keep you interested in their games. They don't want you to play a game for 6-8 hours and move on. They want your attention, because it helps future sales from the developer and for that IP.

I'll never have an issue paying for extra content. If I don't want it I won't pay for it but if the game is really good and I want more I'll cough up a few bucks.

All this talk about the DLC, has any of it been confirmed? I haven't been able to find anything on it other than bonus/extra stuff possibly.

1000 cars and 20 tracks (60 total variations) on the disc from the legit info available right now.

I dunno if the DLC thing is true... Doesn't seem so. But on the topic of DLC. I think in the future (5-10) years, that's the route we're going to end up going. All digital media and a low start up cost. With options to buy what you want.

For example:

What if I wanted Halo3, but I know that I never play multiplayer. What if Halo3 was $25 and the multiplayer component was $15 and the map pack was $10 and the extra campaign level was $10? People could buy as much or as little Halo as they wanted. Obviously this model only works if they have a decent pricing structure and each component is well worth it's cost.

Hopefully you're right, I wouldn't mind a package of 100 more cars and 10 tracks or something like that for say $20, but the original news I heard (and this was a while ago) was there would be charges for individual cars and tracks, that kinda miffed me a little. Maybe I'm just a cheap bastard, but if games are getting so expensive to produce why not move the production to China, and we could have 7 year old children doing the programming for $5 a month?

 I can see DLC for cars that are possibly locked at the beginning of the game like many other racers do now but I seriously doubt that the disc itself comes with anything less than what they have advertised so far (1000 cars, 60 tracks). I think it would be big news if that were the case.

Cool, I've been a fan of this franchise since the original and am looking forward to once again owning 300 different Lancers. :pointlol: Now that they'll be 'free' I can rest easy.

As far as a link, it was soooooo long ago bro, I have no idea where to even start looking.
