this is pretty much goodell talking to ross IMO. his celebrities won't be enough the league wants a new stadium. ughhh if you're gonna build a new one please let the fans have input as to where the bleachers should end
They said they wont build a new one. They will probably move seats closer to the field and some other things once the Marlins leave.
One advantage is the simple fact of weather in February. As a fan sitting on a bleacher it has to be better than say green bay.
They better do something because the newer stadiums will start winning the bids to future SB's from here on out. The stadium in NJ is pretty darn good and I would not be one bit surprised to see them get one right away. Their stadium now has it's seats as the closest to the field in the NFL and holds 85,000 people. I'd love to see a new stadium here but it looks like Ross won't even think about it....
This is great news... The pitch..The business plan..The cutting edge investment.. " The Orange Bowl 2' You wanna talk about making your money back, build the damn thing with CROWD NOISE being the #1 priority when designing.. Give a call to Phil Knight, ask him to quantify how much extra money he's made on the no brainer concept...the economic impact is off the charts...the wins at home will follow.. Watch new orleans play at home, watch the level of emotion they achieve, and understand,we will never have that element in our stadium or part of our fandom. The orange Bowl 2... please.
Man Eff the NFL. San Diego spent a gang of money for a Superbowl we got one and then they said, new stadium or no new SB's. Qualcomm is old as hell though. but every super bowl here has been beautiful.
I don't think another stadium would get green lighted for a while, the city gave the Marlins their stadium. If the idea was being kicked around for us to get a new one, they would have kept the current. That being said I do think that Ross will make sure we are competitive for SBs in the future. He knows how important they are to the economy (and of course his own pockets), and I doubt he'll just throw that away)
I agree. The concept that the stadium has to be cutting edge state of the art to host a Superbowl is BS imo. Does this affect the outcome of the game? When somebody is purchasing Tickets for a Superbowl do they back out simply because of the stadium or even location? Absurd!!!! Goodell os completely out of touch with reality IMO
I'm no engineer, but I don't even know what structurally you could do that would move the seats closer to the field.
You do realize not only football fans watch the Superbowl and that its the biggest nationwide event? No, fans wont back out because of the amenities, but the amenities may draw customers. For example, I believe next year's Super Bowl will be held in Cowboys Stadium. Of course people are going to be intrigued to go because of the new stadium, HUGE screen, etc., as opposed to going to a Lambeau Field. It seems like you're the one that is out of touch with reality. The Super Bowl isn't just about the game, its the whole experience.
It will be a great day the day the Marlins are evicted. Joe designed it this way, but that was the one real problem. They are going to need to rip out some seats and build in a lower bowl that will bring seats closer to the field. Having the fans 25 yards from the field is a huge flaw. However, nothing can be done for a couple more years.
man goodell needs to shut his mouth.. our stadium is obviously good enough to have all these superbowls that we have been having for a long time. maybe we can do some upgrades like bring the seats closer to the field but definatley not a new stadium
They need to put a retractable roof or dome on the stadium, the league is still sour about the Indy-Chicago hurricane bowl a couple years ago.
We wont see a new stadium anytime soon thanks to the cost of the Marlins Stadium. I think thats when we'll see some renovations No, the heat and himidity is our home field advantage(the Colts were sucking wind, the Jets had to set up a makeshift covering for their players last year) if you arent used to the weather down here by now then tough ****.
The NFL doesn't care about our home field advantage. The fact is they were very displeased with the Colts-Bears Superbowl where it was a constant downpour and like a mini-hurricane. You couple that with the fact that South Florida weather is very unpredictable and it is possible for future rains to fall on a Superbowl. The NFL doesn't want that, that hurts them and it costs them money. So if we want to keep home field advantage we can say bye bye to superbowls. Or you put a retractable roof like I said and you get the best of both.
The superbowl is not for the fans anymore anyway. The regular season is for us lowly peons, the super bowl is for the sponsors. What Goodell is saying is "if my corporate partners don't have a good time, your city is SOL next go 'round".
Actually it was the opposite. The NFL loved seeing the elements used. They could care less about WARM RAIN. Thats the facts...
It's all about location. Miami, Tampa and AZ get SB's because of where they're located, not because of their stadiums. Goddell knows he wants more SB's down here, which is why he's hoping Ross will upgrade. Either way, don't expect too many "Northern Super Bowls" in the near future.
Has nothing to do with the game. Has everything to do with convincing CEOs of corporations to shell out $100k for luxury boxes.
It is rather easy to do structurally. Just VERY EXPENSIVE. It is about changing the elevation and pitch of the lower section. I can draw up the changes in about an hour or two. Then I would need about 60 million dollars to build it. LOL
Pretty much nailed it. Goodell doesn't give a rats *** about anything but the bottomline. Also, keep in mind, any and all upgrades will come directly out of the pockets of the ticket holders
Yes and no. Stadiums do have something to do with it but its not the tell all. Goddell is going to put NY's new stadium on the voting list. He already said it but I don't expect them to get many but they will be considered hard because of the amount of revenue that can be made...
To make it correctly it would have to have the upper bowl moved closer but they might as well build a new stadium rather than do that. To redo the lower bowl the angle would have to be steeper and by doing that it could effect the few from the top in the first few rows.
It's a shame they put a mediocre team in such a "nice" stadium. I put nice in quotes because I don't think that stadium was built to watch football. It was built for entertainment with a splash of football.
The elements make football what it is. Man Vs Man; Man Vs Himself; Man Vs Nature Screw Goodell, and his sponsors. Screw the superbowl and the "NFL experience" for that matter. I'm glad the '06 Superbowl was played out in the rain.
Goodell needs to get over himself with this pressure on Miami to build a new stadium. I know plenty of people who would LOVE to have the couple of hundred dollars necessary, currently, to experience a Fins game. The truth is that we are hit here severely by the recession, and yes, mostly due to banks' priviliges and the previously heightened real estate market, but to even consider building a new stadium is beyond superfluous. It is not a perfect stadium, but it is structurally sound, we (usually) have great weather, and we have the hotels and beaches to please Northerners and Midwesterners. Goodell knows that.
The one problem I have always had with Joe Robbie is the lack of atmosphere. Games in the Orange Bowl had a vibe, it was electric, the crowd was intimidating. To me, the current stadium has none of this. Adding a retractable roof would be cool, but somethings got to be done to get the fans on top of the field where they can be a factor. But first get the goddamn Marlins out of there!!!!
I wouldn't want the Dolphins to play in that stadium honestly. It's just completely ridiculous and overboard.
It never came from the NFL though. They would never have worded it the way you did. The bottom line is that Miami has held more, if not close to that, superbowls than any town and one rain storm could never ruin their chances to get more when so many have been the absolute best atmosphere....weather wise.
Please no PSL's if there's an upgrade And why move the seats closer? The 2018 or 2022 World Cup's will take place in the U.S. and the candidate cities will get announced in about a month. If the seats are moved closer, it might not be suitable for soccer anymore, which would scratch Miami off the list. If we do get included, we'll get at least 3 games guaranteed. And that brings way more money than the Super Bowl, which will still be hosted here anyways
Well the way I said it was my own take, but I swear someone posted an article on here a few months ago talking about how we could lose super bowls if we didn't renovate. In that article it mention how the nfl wasn't too happy about that super bowl. And something you have to remember this is new management, if they get spooked they could very well do the unthinkable.
Yeah everyone is just dying to party in Indy for a Superbowl or those other "party" locations.......riiiiiiiiggghtttttt. If Goodell is so concerned, have the NFL subsidize the costs of upgrades to Landshark Stadium. I do hope that the Phins build a new stadium sometime in the next ten years, and go back to having a stadium where the fans are near the field like they were at the Orange Bowl.
