Nice read: http://www.thephinsider.com/2010/7/13/1564889/pieces-to-the-puzzle-3-4-hybrid This topic came up in the "Jason Cole ranks LB's" thread around the same time, weird huh. It got lost in the Lebronica hooplah, but deserves to be revisited.
I am not worried about our front 7 this year .... OLB remains a question -- with Wake as a full time WOLB or remaining a pass rush specialist; how long does it take Misi to earn the SOLB job; to offset this, we do have Anderson to gap us at WOLB until the dust settles. Depending on how this goes -- we could be anywhere between average to very good at OLB by mid season. The other 5 spots we will be above average across the board and be much improved from last year up the middle.
I'm excited... The other thing about this defense is that instead of wasting time diagnosing plays they just stick to there assignments with aggression. An aggressive hybrid has become my favorite defense! Works for me in Madden... LOL!
what can you expect from rookie production? hopefully @ least two will contribute enough to start. you never know. usually one starter in a draft is a big deal. we will need luck this year to go from the mediocre to contender in 2010
The SB teams ALWAYS have some luck along the way... Such as how the JESTS backed into the AFC Championship and almost made it to the big game. That is until they played a team trying to win!
Don't completely agree with the first point. yes, Porter was ineffective last year and worst case scenario: Wake gives a better pass rush but doesn't improve over Porter with respect to coverage or playing the run. Fact is: our defense stunk last year. We need Wake to play significantly better than Porter did, especially since Misi will have some growing pains at SOLB.
