How many members on here play golf? I love the game and have been playing over 35 years now. This past winter/spring and summer, Ive been going thru a major swing change. I can usually shoot in the high 70's or low 80's most of the time. What do you shoot?
90s.....but ive played very sparringly for maybe 2 years.....i love it. i played football baseball and basketball all my life....but nothing like golf....it is you Vs you!!! its mental.....its practice....i love playing golf....no better feeling than me hitting a great drive...i just wish i could afford to play it more
LOVE golf...sadly, it does not love me. I never played well, but since I put on some pounds a few years ago, my swing has gotten worse. I have good clubs - Callaway irons, Big Bertha 460 driver, etc. but that swing... Nothing like being on a beautiful course on a nice day, though. Makes you see God.
Its a great sport and great activity....(especially walking over using a cart....and especially having a caddy if you can). Honestly, for anyone who never has had the chance, find a course that offers a caddy (or bribe a friend or pay a young kid to do it one time) and you will have the best day of your golfing life - regardless of your score. I love to play as often as I can....enjoy traveling with my sticks to new places....play to a 10.2 index (11 to 13 handicap usually depending on course rating, etc) and my goal is to reach single digits.
I bought a skycaddie a couple of years ago, such a great thing for yardages. My best for 9 is 1 over, but I was in rare form that day. I'm playing pretty well right now, but I can't seem to do it over 18 holes.
Played since I was 10 year old. I am currently a 10.7 handicap. My best for 18 is 80, my best for 9 is 36. I work at my friend's (a golf pro) golf summer camp. We have 2 kids that are a couple of the best in their respective age group in the country. They participate in many tournaments such as the US Kids Tournaments down here. I have played with them before, and their games are downright scary. They are going to be participating in a huge tournament at Pinehurst in a couple of weeks. It is incredible, and I love watching these kids' games develop. I love playing and teaching Golf. It really is an amazing game.
Man you guys suck. I shoot low 60's. We're talking per hole right? Love it but I'm not very good at it. I don't play golf much any more but wish I did.
Also, in the business world, the ability to have a nice long conversation over 4 hours to close deals can not be understated. Including comfortable setting for drinks and snack/meal to seal the deal (especially club amentities)! And...along those lines, the game of golf, the rules of golf, and the integrity or lack of integrity to how one conducts themselves over the course of a round speaks volumes in business and life. That should not be over looked either!
Along those lines of rules and etiquette of golf, another benefit of teaching kids this game. This game teaches good manners not only in the golf course but in life as well... not to mention honesty and courtesy. I remember when I was young nobody would teach golf to ANYONE under 10 years old (when I started). Thanks to Tiger Woods, very talented kids are being discovered and taught at younger ages.
A pretty good bit on golf by Lewis Black. Some vulgarity, and it's not directed at anyone on here that plays golf, just thought you guys might find it funny.[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTqI_4KW7-w"]YouTube - Lewis Black - Golfers[/ame]
Some bad language....but one of the funniest Golf recaps ever.... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDQd49rEF_0"]YouTube - Robin Williams golf[/ame]
Love the game, but it hates me. My brother-in-law and I try to play once a week, more if we can. He has improved by leaps and bounds to where he can play bogey golf every time we play, whereas I continue to hold the nickname "Snowman" for all the 8s on my scorecard. But, there is always that one shot that brings me back, and I am slowly improving.
I've been playin for 17 yrs now. Career best round is 65 (par 72). I've been a scratch for the last 3 yrs but this yr I am struggling. I am currently a 4 hcp. Just played a tourney this past weekend and shot 77-73. Can't make a putt! It is a great sport. Like above poster said, it's you vs. you. No team. You get all the blame and you get all the fame.
I have played very little for about 6 years now. I love the competition with yourself. Always thinking I can do better then that. And never doing it. Maybe better on the same hole but worse on the next. After my wife passes the state nursing exam, I'm hoping I can play more.
I got a job at a golf course during college after my father-in-law took me to a driving range. Since then I've been hooked, but I got a lot of free practice in while I was working there. I'm an 18 handicap, would like to get better but as long as I go out and make some pars and the occassional birdie I'm happy
just started playing this summer after receiving clubs from my GF for christmas, and i love it... i was playing more often earlier this season and was improving to where id be shooting sub 100s, but i play on pretty easy courses... i haven't played in a few weeks now and went to the driving range the other day and my swing was all off... but i want to stick with it and keep playing... its a lot of fun... really need to work on my woods, i generally just tee off with my hybrid and not even use my woods because my slice is deadly, and i actually need to get myself a new decent driver, mine is very crappy... but i was in florida 3 weeks ago last time i played, and used a friends clubs, and was killing it with his driver once i started using it... started the back nine with 3 pars and a bogey using the driver before we had to call it early because of time issues, which is great for me... but moral of the story, i love golf and would like to play every week it sjust hard to find time sometimes...
thats alot of clubs! golf jokes i like george carlins quote the best, "when you hit the ball ya have to go find it. when you find it, pick it up, go home, you're winner."
Next month I'm going to build myself two new sets of clubs. My uncle back home has been building golf clubs for 25 years plus and I'd like to start building some sets and just see what I can do.

No score keeping here bro. I took it up and got a used Adams set to play with my father in law while I was out of work. I like just golfing, and having fun. Haven't been able to golf since I started working in March again. One of these Saturdays after things settle down in my life I am going to go and pick up my father in law and enjoy the day.
