GMAC Bowl is on at 7pm on ESPN with Central Michigan v Troy. Why it is worth watching: Dan Lefeveour Central Michigan Qb Troy Cameron Sheffield OLB Brandon Lang DE Ireland and Tuna found DWare at Troy, B Lang may be worth watching as small college 4-7 pick.
LeFevour doesn't impress me. It may be just me but I've watched him and I just don't see it. They've got Antonio Brown, a solid slot reciever. He's an unwilling blocker but good hands, quick feet, fights for extra yards. Bryan Anderson sometimes reminds me of Patrick Turner coming out. Don't forget about Boris Lee of Troy. He's a flier late. I like Lang quite a bit.
Not much, noticed the Guru goof up in the Iowa/GT thread though... Brandon Lane of Troy and Austen Lane of Murray State or are on my radar as small college OLB conversion players. Derrick Morgan looked pedestrian, or semi pedestrian, he may have been on a fast walk, but he is not what I'd hoped he would be..pass on him imho. I know Ck likes Andrian Tracy from W&M, another cat I like is Arthur Moats from James Madison, Buck Buchanon winner and really quick.
There could be over 100 pass attempts in this game, if Lang can do anything he should show up with that many rushers to get to the Qb.
They seem to me like very similar players to me, just with a very big talent gap in the players around them (not trying to say McCoy isn't better). I'm one of the people who think Dan may be the best MAC player ever, and there's been some good ones.
Honestly, I don't see it. I could be wrong here but I just don't see it. His delivery can get long, his accuracy is erratic when he's pressured and he doesn't always make smart decisions. When he's pressured, he'll force it. And when he's flushed out of the pocket, he sometimes will rely on his feet to make a play instead of just throwing it away. I've seen him not step into his throws in the past, just throwing with the strength of his shoulders (and not rotating his hips at all) and he's thrown a short ball. He's a good athlete but he needs a lot of work IMO. Just my two cents.
Lang with a nice play stuffing Den Lefevour inside the 5 yd line. Tall player, he looks stout for a rangy player. Haven't been able to watch his getoff as of yet.
WR Jerrell Jernington might turn pro I heard. Has he said anything recently? Because quite frankly Jernington is the best prospect on the field. If he comes out we have to consider him. He could be the replacement for Ginn or Bess. Small, but runs under a 4.3 and just a playmaker. Also catches obver the middle although that could be a recipe for disaster in the Pros
Good to be back Adamp, this darn GMAC bowl Troy is going on long drives and I cannot watch Lang as much as I'd like to.
watch Zombo (sr) Bellore (jr) and berning (jr) when c mich is on defense. some decent late round and UDFA prospects
Well, my theory for Dolphins Draft 10 is we go offense early and pick up some Lb prospects later in rds 4-7, Lang looks like a good DE/OLB hybrid type. At least that is what I'm looking for anyway.
Possibly, but keep in mind with small college players, they literally have to be freakish athletes to go even in the third round, Jarron Gilbert and Laurance Sidbury were drafted the highest of small college players last year and they still were 3rd and 4th round picks. Sidbury ran a decent 4.66 and still went at #125, Gilbert ran a 4.8 and went #68. Both were great athletes the NFL just does not acquire small school talent in the early rounds in a normal year, that is why I study it looking for bargains.
Lawrence Sidbury went to Richmond. Jarron Gilbert went to San Jose State. I think Troy gets more recognition then both of those and Lang's put up some good numbers during his time there. He'll get consideration as a top ninety grade IMO, especially when they see him in the linebacker drills. He's fluid.
Well I've followed small collge prospects for awhile now Alen, alot of times what it comes down to is the time investment that the Player Personnel guy calculates has to be made to get the prospect up to NFL fundamentals speed. Like Cam Wake at OLB, that time investment comes into the decision to acquire a player or not. Lang has looked good so far, very fundamentally solid as a 4-3 DE. And Gilbert looked great in drills, so did Sidbury even with both going to 4-3 teams neither played very much this year. Gilbert made it into 3 games, Sidbury played more but had little impact.
What dropped Gilbert's stock was his poor work ethic. And I don't recall Sidbury looking good in linebacker drills but I could be wrong. Lang is a better prospect than Sidbury IMO.
Well, in my mocks last draft I really wanted Sidbury simply because he was kicking Loadholt and Vollmer's butt in the Shrine Bowl or Senior Bowl Game, both went on to be high draft picks. Lang will be at the Shrine Bowl (I "think) and that game sort of helps me to decide how much I like a player. Lang is going to attend the Shrine bowl, I need to post both rosters
So, what do you guys think of Brown. I know alen saw him last year as well in the bowl season. The guy can flat out spin the ball IMO. He has a hell of a lot of good qualities about him.
I watched a lot of Levi last year. There's always been something missing for me with him. Does he still have that low delivery? I always fast forward through Troy's offense
He has to work on being under center, and he doesn't have all the starting experience in the world IIRC, but he can definitely get the job done for you I think. Brown could certainly fit into a WC system I would reckon.
B Lang has done squaducch, which is somewhat disappointing. I'll grant they did not have him pin his ears back very often as he played alot of containment Defense, but still talent rises.
What did you think of Frank Zombo? He certainly isnt the athlete that Brandon Lang is but every time I watch Central Michigan he shows up and simply produces. He's like the opposite of Lang IMO. I have yet to see a game with Lang where he impressed me other than as an athlete. Zombo on the other hand causes me to chuckle every time I see him. For some reason I think of John Belushi. Zombo might be worth a 6th or 7th rounder. He seems pretty strong and there's definitely a tough streak in him plus the name is priceless lol Also what did you think of Jerral Jernigan? If he comes out this year I would target him immediately. Speed, playmaker, moves, goes over the middle. could work on his hands a bit but just a playmaker.
TBH, I mostly payed attention when Troy was on Defense Adamp. Lang was staying glued to blocks and occasionally flashed athleticism. Spread offense type of Wr, nice quickness, smallish Andre Brown for CMI looked good as well.
That was a great game last night. Thanks Padre for cluing me in to it being on. I enjoyed watching it. I thought both QB's looked good. Did I understand correctly when they said Dan LeFevour had the most TD's of any college player ever (150 after last night?). Wow...that's pretty impressive. I think I also heard Kiper has him ranked as the #4 QB in the draft. I thought Brown looked pretty good too. Quick release from what I saw. Kinda reminded me of a young Marino in some ways.
Brown doesn't like to block much, and can have some concentration issues as well. He's dynamic on that stage, but against better competition, he will likely be amongst the wash. His best role could be the slot rather than trying to make him play on the outside.
Yeah that was sort of my take on both of them, not that they lack toughness rather that level of competition they should dominate. As for Brandon Lang...he was a fish, he sort of flopped around a bit but for all of the movement never really got anywhere. In the lower division games I try to look for a player to make that big play when it matters, the sack, the pass tip, the TFL, if a guy is going to the next level he should be able to find that extra gear that allows them to make the play and Lang just sort of flopped around like a fish, imvho he is more of a 6th round developmental type at best. Unless he shines at the Shrine practices and game that is.
