Not true, even if you don't count Clay, there are still 2 rookie FBs on the roster.

Where do you get this about his catching ability anyway?

Bess isn't illusive or fast, why would you try Bess in that position?

And before this goes too far, I'd like to reiterate:

Just a guess but Lane could be the odd man out if he doesn't step his game up. Clay was stealing some of his snaps at FB late last year and with Sims and Keller available for the 2 TE sets Clay could go to FB/H-Back even more, perhaps full time, making Lane expendable.

Exactly my feeling, GMJ. I don;t see Lane adding anything to the offense in terms of a scheming advantage for an OC, compared to simply using Clay sightly differently out of different plays, alignments etc, and occasionally allowing Clay to lead block. I didn't watch closely to compare Clay's blockng and Lane's blocking from the backfeidl, but I don;t remember thinking "Wow Clay is bad" when he did it. Clay offers more verstility.

I think what could save Lane is if Clay gets dinged up in camp.

Also, we like players who are improving and Lane started the year better than he finished it, which is an arrow-down player. He has to show something more in camp, imo, to stay on this roster.
