Well, this is my first mock for fantasy football... figured I'd try to make myself comfortable with one of my "practice" accounts before the real deal. Keep in mind that the first five or six rounds weren't my selections because I was kind of late to the draft... As in, I had selected the 8:15 timeslot but as I rolled in at 8:10... it was 5 or 6 rounds in... damn you Yahoo, damn you....... QB Donovan McNabb (R8) RB LaDainian Tomlinson (R1) RB Marshawn Lynch (R2) WR Reggie Wayne (R3) WR Roy Williams (R4) WR Santonio Holmes (R5) TE Tony Gonzalez (R6) K Rob Bironas (R12) DEF Tennessee (R14) BN Phillip Rivers (R11) BN Fred Taylor (R10) BN Chester Taylor (R13) BN Chris Chambers (R7) BN Jericho Cotchery (R9) BN Zach Miller (R15) I probably wouldn't have taken Holmes in round five, but instead select Ronnie Brown as he was available at the moment. However, being late to the draft killed that idea. I was pretty satisfied about the draft and even got to laugh about Wes Welker going 9th overall.
Sure, everyone else gets 6 or 7 replies... what do I get? Nothing! Now I know how it feels to be lucky.
Hey, I only got one comment, and it's from Aqua so it doesn't count. That's not a bad team. I can't see anything wrong with it on the surface. Well, you DID take a kicker in the 12th...
No replies because there's no hope for your team. I mean Desides posted one too many and even he got Aqua. Start thinking about next year. Well, you had a pretty good draft, solid all around. I'm presuming you had #1 or #2?
I don't think you should ever take a kicker before a defense, and there are legit arguments for taking a defense as early as round 8 depending on the league.
Depends on the circumstances IMO. Bironas, IMO, is a top tier kicker who I figured would go soon. However I felt I could still get the guys I was targeting in Miller and Tennessee's defense later on... It worked out well.
First 5 or 6 rounds were good... I'd personally be concerned with McNabb as my stating QB, although paired with Rivers it could turn out OK. McNabb will probably be injured again by week 7 and Rivers usually comes on a little better in the second half of the season... at least by what I remember of him last year. WR's are very solid. I'd personally start Miller over Gonzo until KC can show their QB can complete a pass.
Kickers, like strippers and blank CDs, are fungible. I like Bironas too, but have no issue missing out on him if someone reaches for him 3 rounds early. Mason Crosby, Neil Rackers, Josh Scobee, and Jeff Reed are 99% as good.
Dude I am the king at drafting kickers as the last pick. 2 years ago people picked Kicking champion Rackers as high as 7-8th I drafted Robbie Gould in every league in the last round and ended with the best kicker. Last year it was the same people drafted Gould as high as 7-8th I drafted Rob Bironas as the last pick for me and he kicked his way to top kicker. I am LEGEND!
Most of the teams picked a kicker in round 8 or 9, one even picked one as high as 4th round. Adam Vinatieri, Round 4 (32) Nick Folk, Round 8 (79) Neil Rackers, Round 9 (83) Shayne Graham, Round 9 (87) Mason Crosby, Round 10 (95) Phil Dawson, Round 12 (117) Rob Bironas, Round 12 (120) Josh Brown, Round 15 (145) Josh Scobee, Round 15 (148) Ryan Longwell, Round 15 (150) That's how it turned out... I don't think Bironas was a reach in round 12, but in round 8 or 9? Yes, he would be. I think people stick by their rulebook too much instead of taking what comes to them.
That's why they're rules. But really, kicker is the least important position on a team. They rarely miss field goals and I have never seen a PAT go wrong. Kicker is the only set and forget position on the team. Look at my six mock thread. I was able to get Bironas in the final round on two of those teams. He was usually available one round prior, too. If you're trying to decide between a fringe backup, a kicker, or a defense, I take the defense, then the backup, then the kicker. If someone wants Vinatieri in round 4, let them. It pushes someone like Anquan Boldin or Torry Holt down to you.
