Watching now. Doing a lot of rewinding and slow motion on this one. Bryan Bulaga canNOT handle Derrick Morgan. Nobody can. Now you know why in my mock I have him going as high as #3 overall to Tampa Bay. Don't put a TE on him. That's just a nightmare waiting to happen. Edds is looking good reading the QB's eyes so far but he also does the thing where he takes his eyes off the ball when he's tied up with a blocker, sometimes. We'll keep this going. This is going to be an EXCELLENT game because you get a chance to calibrate Derrick Morgan against both Bryan Bulaga AND Kyle Callaway, both excellent OT prospects. Usually the premium rushers only go against Right Tackles who have no NFL future.
Kyle Callaway can't handle Morgan off the snap either but he does a good job using his hands to recover. Morgan couldn't bend and redirect, without getting knocked down on this play.
Morgan's done a good job holding his ground and setting the edge thus far. They had a tight end and Calloway on him early in the game and he manhandled both, using one arm on each one IIRC. On that goal line play before the touchdown, he was inside conscious though and I am guessing he thought they would run a dive up the middle but that wasn't the case.
It looked to me that Bulaga was getting his hands low, and allowing Morgan into his torso a bit. Calloway, as you said did a better job with his hands. Hughes showed some things last night as well.
Angerer made that 3rd and 1 play, shedding the FB and nailing Nesbitt. I hate this Yellow Jackets offense.
Morgan was a little too hesitant in chasing the QB on that boot just now. Broke down a little too long, should have been more explosive. The holding call was, of course, total bull sh-t.
They're chipping him a bit and Calloway's effective enough in forcing him out wide. I love they way Morgan plays with such violence. Good block by Bulaga for the Robinson run. Ouch. Morgan Burnett just got shook out of his jock on that double move.
All the way around nice jobs here. Derrick Morgan looks pretty good back pedaling into coverage, reacts well to the stretch play to the opposite side. Morgan Burnett gets off McNutt's block, makes the tackle. Bryan Bulaga an excellent job releasing to the second level and completely walling off a linebacker, really looked like a brick wall there.
Callaway did a great job on this play of letting Morgan run himself wide, really like Kyle Callaway he also did a good job on Corey Wootton. Ricky Stanzi's ball placement has been superb so far.
Smooth back pedal, little high but smooth feet but he bit inside hard. And Angerer makes the 3rd straight play. Kid flashes every time, although got run past there in coverage. And there's Clayborn.
I'm a little behind with the rewinding and slow motion, sorry. Curious decision by Bebe to let Spivey free on that first down run though.
On one of those Dwyer just picked the wrong hole. He needed to cut back to the right to give his releasing OL any chance at getting to the second level on Angerer.
Ed Orgeron has a 5 point plan for recruiting and drafting a D lineman...pick 6! ... 1. Does the guy he hits get rocked back on contact. 2. How quick are his hands 3. Is he stiff in his hips or can he change direction effortlessly? 4. Does he pursue? 5. Does he stay on his feet? Obvious, but look at a Suh or a Morgan compared to a Price who doesn't tick the 5 boxes that the others do.
And this is where the Pat Angerer story gets weak. Forced to cover an A Back up the seem he is WOEFULLY late in turning to cover the guy and just looks completely outclassed in the speed department. Of course Clayborn is such a beast, he covered it up for him by getting to the QB.
Kyle Callaway has the athleticism to recover from mistakes off the snap. Seen that twice in him now. WHAT a play by Terrent or however you spell his name. Unbelievable break on the ball, physicality at the attack point, great play. Callaway needs to focus on bringing the blow to Morgan a little more.
Morgan is so quick and he gets such leverage, but Calloway has a terrific base and he's doing a really fine job of staying balanced.
The first down run, he gets ridden out wide but has great play awareness and he rips back into the C gap for the stop.
Two plays in a row Callaway has brought Morgan to the ground. This is an excellent battle. Wouldn't totally surprise me if Callaway is the better NFL tackle between he and Bulaga. Clayborn is a monster.
Two plays in a row, Clayborn all over it. Stealing a little of Derrick Morgan's thunder, albeit against lesser competition. I have to say this for Callaway. He faces tougher competition than Bryan Bulaga. It was Kyle that had to face Corey Wootton and he did a good job of it, it was when Wootton got matched in space or on TEs that he made more plays. Now Callaway is doing the heavy lifting against Derrick Morgan. Really like Callaway. Really like Derrick Morgan. Really like Clayborn. Really like Spivey. Edds is accounting himself so far. Good game.
Yeah, span off the block well there on 2nd down and corralled Dwyer. Tech can't do a damn thing. Clayborn up top with Edds and Angerer at LB and Prater/Spievey on the corners and Sash at safety. That's a good defense.
That sack was made by Edds, who was on that A-Back like a jock strap as he released on an inside pattern on 3rd & 5. The play was going to him but Edds jammed him and covered him at the same time.
Calloway again blows Morgan outside. And I didn't like the way Burnett ducked his head there. Neck break tackle.
LOL, looks like the announcer has my read on Edds too. I'm slow motioning so much I'm not hearing hardly any of the commentary but I just hit play and Charles Davis is highlighting exactly what I said about Edds' coverage on the play.
Any run play that calls for a TE to block Derrick Morgan to the play side is an instant fail. That's all there is too it. Still digging Callaway more as he shows his speed releasing out to the second level and tracking down a linebacker that really he shouldn't have been able to catch.
Bulaga is not a natural knee bender. He moves through his waist and leans into is blocks a bit rather than getting out over his toes and driving. Anyone else seeing that? That's a concern. O.K. is there an injury I don't know about to Bulaga?
Sorry I'm a little behind you. Shoddy job by Derrick protecting his feet from Callaway's cut block, which worked very well on that play.
I notice on third down they're having Morgan pass rush Bulaga and not Callaway, and it was a great choice. Hmmmm.....
