This is a play by play analysis of what I noticed (or didn't notice) from tonights game. It is from an Eagles slanted perspective.. well, because A) I hate the patriots and B) I like the Eagles a bit. You can get some information if you read between the lines, though. It is jotted down very quickly and some of it may make no sense at all. PHI = Philadelphia has possession PAT = Patriots have possession. Game opens to memory of Jim Johnson. Babin on the play huge hole on left side for 15 yards tackle by macho harris stuffed the run for a 3 yard gain eagles flew to the ball carrier. pressure but gets pass off 6 yards up the middle penetration on RT by smith. macho harris takes on patriots Oline. holds him up nicely. PHI amendola made two players miss AJ back in bunkly pushes pile fenuki tupou has nice block pass up the middle to bunkly AJ takes shot?? (was walking back out to TV) Screen to bunkly Gibson has nice block but flag was thrown? they said it was because he left his feet but he lead the block with his shoulder. bunkly up the middle for 5 yards mcbride catches a pass thrown to the left run up the middle T.O NE. FG WIDE LEFT A couple of things I had on the top of my paper to watch for. maclin = could contribute on ST right away at very least. was making defenders miss on returns all night long. had a few nice catches. mccoy = hit holes hard. very decisive. IMO very much like B. West which is a good thing for the birds. backups = the eagles had some trouble with Peters. he was a little rusty and some pressure was getting to him during his time in the game. Justice could protect well on the outside but was getting beat on the inside. i noticed peters getting beat more often than not. mcnabb was rushed and didn't exactly feel comfortable in the pocket. eldra bunkly = dude was making plays all night long. guy runs like a truck and seems very hard to bring down. joe mays = plays well and is very decisive on where he wants to flow to the ball. i think he has improved since last year. solid tackling. Vollmer = ? I didn't notice him but the Patriots tackles were having a lot of pressure put on them when the backups came in. Brady = looked alright. the INT he threw was one of those timing plays where the ball was just thrown up in the hopes that Moss or someone would come down with it. He was rushed on the play and threw it up instead of forward and it floated there for a little while which allowed sheldon brown to grab it. eagles second team defense played better against the patriots 2nd team offense than the 1st team defense did against the first team offense. they were completely fired up especially when they caused the turnover on downs. the crowd got back into the game at that point. as far as vick is concerned. many of you here know how much i love dogs. i am not so sure how i feel about him being able to play in the league and he plays for a team that i don't mind watching and enjoy. i think the eagles have a veteran team and a good enough coach in andy reid (his sons have been in trouble w/the law so he should know a bit of how to handle the situation) to support vick. it's not like he's going to the raiders. i think of westbrook, vick, jackson, maclin, mccoy all being on the field at the same time and one phrase comes to mind. speed and the ability to make defenses miss. i think of mcnabb and vick coming onto the field at the same time, mcnabb split out wide and vick under center and having westbrook/jackson, etc on the field at the same time. it gives them a lot of options and a lot of flexibility. we all know vick is not the most accurate passer in the world but at least two years ago he had to be accounted for because of his ability to run. if westbrook wasn't enough to make you shudder with the addition of vick and jackson to their offense this could be very interesting IMO. Chung = looks like they got a decent pick with him. had a couple nice plays. Butler = got beat by an eagles receiver (Maclin I think) and panicked a bit drawing the PI call. I think he grabbed the Eagles INT in the endzone when they went for two during the game though. That's all I got guys..
