That definitely seems to be where in the show she veered into actually being somewhat good at the game. I don't think she will in the books at all. And logically it doesn't make much sense either. You're either good at it like Tyrion and Tywin, or you're not, like Robert Baratheon and Cersei. Shortsighted, vindictive and envious. Even now in the end, I would argue that she has still largely rode the coattails of others and lucked into much of her good fortune. She is essentially an adult version of Joffrey now. It's just kind of annoying, as amazing as Lena is.

Maybe in the books...but not in the show. In the show she is every bit as capable of the game as heavy hitters like Littlefinger, Tyrion, Tywinn, etc.

If memory serves me right, where she is in the books is the shame sequence.

The show is almost a different character. Plus Tyrion is much more capable in the books. Tywinn is a bad *** in all forms.

I expect Dany and Jon are going to find out pretty sharp that Cersie has double-crossed them, either by Jaime showing up or the Lannister armies not showing up, so unless Tyrion has a time limit on any deal he made with her, he'll quickly change his mind about following through with it, if they did make a deal. Of course, if the theory is right, they might play it out that he gets caught or goes through with it just before they find out.

Theon is going to find out and warn Jon, because he's going after Euron.

At this point, that's my theory. It's the only one that makes sense. Why wait so long to return between long nights? He was defeated previously by Azor and needed a new game plan. He was waiting for a Wight Dragon. A weapon of mass destruction. He started to assemble his new army right before Dany brought Dragon's back into the world, so it seems to fit that he foresaw their arrival. And it doesn't appear as though he had another plan to get past the wall, as if he knew the Dragons were coming. Lastly, during Bran's time travel visit, the Night King was able to touch him. The only other character to interact and touch Bran during those time travel visits was the former Three Eyed Raven, who had greensight. We've also seen him break Bran's warging ability. Clearly, he's got some voodoo of one kind or another.

All the "smart" characters are more capable in the books. Littlefinger, Vary's, Tyrion, Doran Martell, etc... The show has done a terrible job with these characters after straying from the books. Littlefinger willingly gives up trump card, the key to the North, Sansa, to Ramsey without properly vetting him, Vary's doesn't do anything anymore, and Tyrion has become totally inept having lost all ability to read people and situations and plan accordingly. And Doran? Well, they ****ed up Dorne royally, no further explanation needed.

There's no way Tyrion in the books would never believe...

1). That Cersei would put more noble intentions ahead of her own self interest.
2). That Cersei would be dumb enough to fight alongside Dany and Co. knowing that they're coming for her soon after. Cersei's ONLY play is to hope that the Night King is defeated by Dany and Co. while losing a significant portion of her military strength in the process.

I absolutely hate the way the show has mismanaged Tyrion... All that incredible character building in the first four seasons has been ruined. He's a dunce now. He's pretty much the hardest character to screw up and somehow D&D have done it.

    Interesting new theory....

This past season the Hound saw into the fire very clearly, more clearly than even the Red Lady. So the theory goes that he's always been able to see into the fire even when he was a kid. Maybe he didn't steal the Mountain's toy, but instead saw the Mountain's death and told him about it. It was that revelation that enraged the Mountain pushing the Hound's face into the fire.

Maybe, he saw the Mountain's death at the hands of......Arya. It would explain a lot. It would explain why the Hound looks after her for so long. It would explain what the Hound said to the Mountain in the last episode about, "you know who is coming for you". Hell, even things like showing Arya sparring against Brienne could be used to show she could hold her own and take out a much larger opponent.

My issue with that is Gregor does not seem be "alive" in the traditional sense (lol) and probably cannot be killed in the traditional sense. Arya, for all that she is, I am not sure would be able to do something like a decapitation, which is likely needed for Gregor (or death by fire). Remember the prior season when the acolyte hit him with that big spike and the only thing he got was his head bashed in? I get the feeling that Sandor overcomes his fear of fire to kill him. Showing her sparring with Brienne is nothing, because Gregor is not mortal like Brienne.

In the context of the show it's not considered incest. Only immediate family members are incest. There are actually a lot of places in the world today where that's still the case. I don't know why people are freaking out about it (not saying you are specifically). Tywin's wife was also his first cousin.

    so many thoughts....

With John finding out his true identity, how does that affect his new found relationship with our favorite blonde queen? Is there a power struggle there that, as this is GOT, will develop over the remaining episodes to where the two can't get along? Or at least, the "advisers" that are surrounding the two attempt to turn them against each other? I mean, Sam reacting the way he did to his father's death (who he should hate right?) is a little surprising and not consistent with what we know about him. He should have reacted like Arya did when she found out her aunt was dead (with a gut busting laugh). Instead he's the one that breaks it to John... as prompted to do so by Bran.

Tyrion and now Jamie perhaps joining forces is going to be interesting (they should be extremely loyal to each other to the end). Especially if John and the DQ choose to punish Jamie.

Why does Bran look more and more like the Night King? I don't know, but if we go full blown "Lost" mode (as always tends to happen at the end of the greatest shows), nothing is off the table, time warps, worm holes, dreams, multiple dimensions, etc etc. Bran being the 3-eyed raven is the key to that. I just hope it doesn't end like that. Too good of a show to get lazy at the end.

The greatest show of all time (in my opinion) needs the greatest ending of all time. I'm so freaked out about spoilers that I probably won't come back to this thread until after the finale and of course all the remaining episodes will be watched the same night they air by me.

I'm psyched I finally got The Players Klub on the Android box so I could catch up. Saw Season 7 for first time this weekend before the premiere last night. Of course if Jon Snow was smart, he'd keep that secret to himself to keep the unity vs the dead, but since they keep playing up his honesty, I"m sure he blurts it out and ruins all the good feelings that seem to be building up (and out of place in this show).

Also, I thought it worked extremely well how they brought back all the characters together at end of season 7. you almost forget about some of the sub-stories that happened earlier in the show.

If there is a power struggle between Danny and Jon, it will be about how to rule not about birthright, unless the how to rule part forces Jon to use whatever he can.

Sam was upset about his brother and only kinda about his father.

As far as jaime and tyrion, I'm looking forward to the Bron showdown.

With all the characters coming back to winterfell, seems to be a lot of pairing up of the characters.
Would be interesting to see people try a guess at who ends up on the throne (and whether it's one of the pairs) before the big battle happens. way too simple to pick Jon and Daenarys. Think I'll go with Daenrys and a darkhorse in Jorah Mormont.

Unreal. Greatest show ever. Ever. EVER.

Trying to get a count on some mia...

Did one of the living dragons die? Johns one?

    Where is Baratheons bastard?

    By my count we lost
both Mormonts. Darick Dondarion (sp?). Red Queen. Theon. The Dood from the nights watch whose name escapes me. Think Sam made it??? But John was like ehhh as he walked by. It was a little hollywood at times.they would tease a big character dying only to not have it happen.

The only negative for me was that it was so dark for most of the episode. Had to turn my brightness up. Had a hard time making **** out at times.

I read last year that the final season was delayed so long because the technology wasn't there yet to make tonight's episode.....it had to be dark or we would have waited another year for it. That was the most insane TV episode in the history of television though....OMFG!!!! The ending had me going from despair to pure joy in less than 2 seconds time, and I don't ever remember a more exciting show/movie/whatever. Simply incredible!

Incredible episode, had me on the edge of my seat all the way through. At first the darkness pissed me off, as was so hard to see what was happening, but then I realised that you were meant to find it hard to see, as that's what made the Night King's army so terrifying. The defenders didn't see them until they were right on top of them, and you could see when some were backing off how terrifying it would be to a defending army.

Right up until the last scene, I wasn't sure what was going to happen, even thought it might end on a cliffhanger or even worse...everyone does die and the NK wins! I never guessed and was surprised by the appearance of Arya (still was thinking it would be Jon), even though in hindsight it was foreshadowed quite a bit (even in an earlier episode this season when Jon was in the Godswood alone and she suddenly appeared behind him "where did you come from"). In a way, all her training was leading up to that scene.

As for the dragons, wasn't sure about Jon's, but someone pointed out that there are two in one of the scenes of next week's trailer, so both must have survived.

that was an epic episode. I also struggled with the darkness. watching it on my Players Klub on a smaller TV in my office - couldn't make heads or tails of the dragon battle. I was expecting to see

    at least one main character die, not just the supporting characters. was a little upset to see J Mormont die, he was my favorite 2nd tier character . was hoping Samwise Gangee..I mean Samwell Tarly get axed ;

I, of course, loved the ending. (various implausibilities aside)

I thought the episode, however, was terribly directed and staged. First let me say, shaky cam needs to die a violent and painful death. I know directors think it makes the viewer feel like they are part of the action but what it really does is make it impossible to follow complex action sequences. When you mix that with the overall low light filming, all you have is an incoherent mess.

Shaky cam should only be used sparingly and not for the entirety of the battle. The director of that episode needs to be jailed.

So we have overly dark film mixed with shaky cam all done by a director who should never direct an action scene again, and it actually worked against what they wanted to create. After the entirety of the Dothraki are killed, you already know they aren't going to win this battle. Then they kept bludgeoning you to death with how hopeless this all was, over and over and over. It got to the point, where it was hammered home so much that this was hopeless that you knew the NK had to die because there was literally no way out.

It is like they took the worst parts of Peter Jackson (never knowing when to end a scene or movie and droning on and on) and ignoring what he's good at (staging epic battles that can actually be followed by the viewer).

It was an amazing episode. And it worked so well because of the opening and end of last episode where theyre basicslly showing you around the castle.

I was so happy it was Arya. Shes been my favorite character and shes had a difficult path. But everything shes gone thru, lead to that.

Yeah, I totally get what you are saying. It's funny, I believe the director was the same one that directed Hardhome. Which is one of my favorite episodes. That worked in the day light. That worked totally from beginning to end. Who can forget the Giant swatting away the dead on his way to GTFO. And then he just walks into the water while everyone is struggling to get into a raft.

I still liked this episode very much, faults and all.
That final scene, didn't notice it on first watch, but you have one of the WW turning to his right almost noticing Arya (supposedly) as she is doing her stealth thing... but his hair moves by her vortex as she's going by. That was a nice touch. Watching it first time, I actually thought Arya was going to get killed when the NK grabbed her by the throat. The whole one hand thing she did kind of caught me by surprise. a little.

    regarding last night's ep...

Had a feeling it would be a downer in some capacity after the rush of the prior episode. Still a "shocking" end. This isn't going to end with a "living happily ever after" is it?

Of course, I'll poke holes in the episode and say why the hell couldn't Bran see that Cersai's ships were waiting for the DQ fleet? Or that we should have seen the rest of the scene where Bran tells Sansa and Arya the truth about John. Now that has been left out, is it open to interpretation exactly what was said? Which leaves open... well it leaves it open doesn't it?

I mostly liked the last episode but that iron fleet scene seemed way over the top. Three shots in a row....just like that after 8 seasons? No sir, I don't buy that and it was poor writing. However, I don't think he's dead thanks to the "previews" this week....either that or more are coming from other parts of the world.

I was careful with my words there in case someone hasn't seen the last episode yet. This week should be the battle for Kings Landing and the only question left is who kills Cerci.....Jon, Arya or one of Cerci's brothers (and which of them die in the process to the Mountain). I also have a gut feeling that Dani will turn on Jon at some point (it would be too simple for them to marry).

Like others, I don't want it to end but I can't wait to see the ending.....love this freaking show!

Just did a 3 day binge of seasons 6, 7, and now 8. So much fun watching it consecutively that way. Can’t believe how many scenes I forgot. There’s so much going on with this show that it was almost like watching it all over for the first time again.

yeah I watched the whole thing again from the beginning back in January/Feb/March. It was definitely worth it. The crazy thing is how long (in episodes) it would take someone to travel from Kings Landing to Winterfell, Arya and Clegane for example. But now, they show up in the same episode. What can you do?
